Just a basic offer, nothing special, just cheap, probably not even worth looking at.

You service is definitely great for production, just that for someone like me who is a cheapskate and just enjoy idling it is a bit pricey. You know, the feeling of collecting stuff although 95% of my servers are idling.

It's been a long week for me so just trying to browse the forum to recharge myself a bit before I start to work again.

Genuinely interested in finding out what they are compared to consider them a bit pricey if you were inclined to expand on that, it is not impossible to reduce the price but obviously compromises may have to be made.

edit: I don't mind you posting links to cheaper comparable offers in my offer :+1:

I think he was talking about "idle compatibility". You just don't idle production grade kvm. ;)

You are right. If I am using it for a normal production server, this price is definitely fair especially if you compare apples to apples. I currently only run some experiments, self-hosted stuff, small proxy server, uptime monitoring and storage server for servers more than 50ms away from my location, so for the specs above it is a bit overkill.

The exception is for servers that are less than 50ms away from me, but then UK is definitely more than that. Anyway, my point is the best deals (for customers, not for providers) are the deals that the customers don't need it but still want it. I usually found that servers with < $1/GB/m RAM, or < $3/TB/m HDD will spark my interest.

You know, don't take me too seriously, I am evil. Most of the time I just make providers run at a loss.

I think that your offers above are attractive and tempting to anyone who prefers monthly payments and intends to use their VPS for something other than idling. Furthermore, that you do daily backups is a plus that gives peace of mind.

If there's a critique to be made of the pricing of the three offers above, it's that the pricing isn't linear: the second offer (for €2.50/m) is non-linearly the most attractively priced :)

Ultimately there is a minimum cost to remain profitable, which causes the none linear pricing at the bottom end of the scale.

If I was to do the 512 plan at €1.25 a month I would make a loss.

can i ask why? i'm not from that country, just curiosity.

I have found the communication barrier and general attitude towards online business for customers from China to great to overcome, it is simply a bad fit, in the budget market the vast majority of customers do not read English agree to everything and breach the terms/AUP immediately then chargeback when suspended for abuse and the communication regarding the issues often proves impossible.

A huge number of the clickbots, hitleap etc type penny "scams" originate in china and there is a community of customers there looking for cheap servers to burn through.

It is a real shame as the market overall is vast but as a small company the volume of chargebacks, abuse issues and issues to deal with from the above is simply too great for me to deal with and easily 10x that of customers from any other country of origin, if I could hire a native speaker to work support and build a Chinese version of the site I would reconsider.

I made this decision about 3 years into the business, about 3 years after that after being called racist a few hundred times I decided perhaps it was a thing of the time and it would not be so bad so I opened the market up again to China only to deeply regret it in less than a month so the doors were shut again.

Despite having to confirm you understand orders from China will be automatically rejected during order, China still remains the number 1 source of orders (rejected) usually followed with a support ticket asking why the order was rejected.

For Brazil the volume of abuse and chargebacks was always high, the criminal intent cases was very high which had me on the edge of closing that door anyway.

I also got burned a handful of times by people who were long term members of LET saying they would be first-class customers and understanding why I had that rule about Brazil but nothing to worry about for them so I let them in, every single one caused big problems, torrenting, DDOS attack (outbound), IP's being blacklisted etc.

Eventually, after the 3rd time I was in danger of having hardware taken by the police due to customers from Brazil hosting child porn I had enough and that was that, I just won't open that door again, apparently the laws regarding child porn are flimsy at best in Brazil which may explain it.

So ultimately for me, it is more of a case of good mental health and business health.

No, they're not. Your decision not to accept customers from Brazil, China or any country is entirely acceptable. Just avoid stating what you don't know based on your experience with bad customers.

Actually that information came from the Police and was the reason they decided ultimately not to pursue it, words to the effect of "Due to the law enforcement being almost none existent regarding underaged pornography on the internet being hosted by some of that country but not the content not being in that country the likelihood of the authorities taking action is near 0"

I have to assume they have more experience than I do and are a fair authority, I take that as laws exist, enforcement does not.

What police? The British? If so, the British police know as much as you do about Brazilian laws against child pornography. That is the problem.

I read it as enforcement being lacking, not the laws
