@Freek said: get the feeling this is a forced move to their cloud platform

Anyone can request to stay in the older platform if you feel that works better. We use newer, more expensive hardware with the new cloud platform for the most part, so we're actually happy if you stay in the old one.

Some of the things that are also available in the new panel:

    • completely redesigned custom ISO, which actually works very well.
    • VLAN based private networking
    • routed IPv6
    • SSH keys (coming soon)
    • snapshots (coming soon)

It pretty much allows us to do whatever we want to do, while also being able to do it the best way possible.

You will find a bunch of comments around that say "Pressing boot does not work" or "ISO does not mount".....that is because SolusVM API was never really designed to be used on our scale. Most of these basic problems (I know it seems small but it's not) are now fixed.

Developing your own platform (and doing it right), and maintaining it costs faaaaar more than SolusVM ever will. It will probably be 4-5+ years before we reach our ROI on it compared to using SolusVM with it's $10/node/month pricing. I know it's usually thought in these parts that human cost is free, but it's the single most expensive cost of running our business.

    Happy birthday @hosthatch :)

    Happy anniversary @hosthatch !

I don't like the new cloud platform. In my opinion it still needs a lot of work in displaying resources allocated to server, renewal date, renewal price, monthly bandwidth consumption, datacenter, and so on. It really needs to be more clear or more specific about each service provided.

EDIT: It would also be beneficial for customer to be able to cancel a cancellation-request (after cancellation was requested). Opening tickets which have very low support, a few days before cancellation comes in effect, would mean the service would already be cancelled by the time customer gets an answer.

    How are you... online?

This is something people don't seem to understand... Time is money, and major projects with good developers don't come cheap! This isn't just a one-off "pay someone $200 on Fiverr" job, it's more like a months- or year-long project with experienced developers and sysadmins.

Happy birthday @hosthatch - is it sad that I actually have your birthday marked in my calendar? (in case there are any deals... :) )

(although it looks like @FrankZ got custom keyrings made up so I still have a way to go, yet... )

  • Anyone having problem with the VPS again? Mine has been down since a few hours ago

At least tell us where

For domain registrations, create an account at Dynadot (ref) and spend $9.99 within 48 hours to receive $5 DynaDollars!
Looking for cost-effective Managed/Anycast/DDoS-Protected/Geo DNS Services? Try ClouDNS (aff).

Is it still Chicago storage issues or NVMe this time?

  • Yeah, my Chicago storage went down it seems. Around 5 AM CEST according to uptime monitors.
Must be an issue with a separate node, as it was previously unaffected by the initial issue in Chicago.

    Same.

  • Ah, so if NVMe is affected too, it's probably just network-related then.

  • Their IP range(s) in Chicago seem to have disappeared from the global routing table, so likely a network (or power?) issue.
