Thought some of you would like to see how we compare in uptime (you can always check at (status.fossvps.org).
We all want 100% uptime which we achieved in March on 5 servers and 8 minutes down on one rendering 99.998%

User abuse

A couple of NodeSeek users decided that instead of using the free VMs for Open Source development they would instead just continuously hammer the cpu for over 10 days. During development I would expect bursts but not with 10 days continuous average above 40% over 2 cpus - come on play fair and think about others.

NPM

Nginx Proxy Manager is working well and overcomes many of the NAT issues. Clients point their domain name to NPM and configure http / s to point to their VM ports. NPM will even generate the certificates and request account / password access.

I wanted to let you know that node buc1 will terminate on 17th of April 2026. The termination does not reflect on what FOSSVPS does or has done, simply the end of the very generous free donation period.

Please ensure you take your backups prior to this date as all data WILL BE DESTROYED.

Unfortunately we cannot migrate you, however you are very welcome to have a replacement rebuild in Frankfurt (de1), Moldova (mol1), Buffalo (us1), L.A. (us2).
A rebuild does mean all server data is destroyed.

In your message state you want a rebuild of buc1 vmid on either de1, mol1, us1 or us2. You can also change the Operating system if you wish (Debian, Ubuntu or Alpine).

If you missed our NPM update - clients that use our NAT service can use NPM (reverse proxy), which directs any domain name, port 80/442 traffic to your internal VPS IP address. So for web applications, it is no longer necessary to have a static IPv4.
Our version of NPM has been released as Open Source by @nstorm and can be of benefit to many hosting providers.

I am Mike Parker aka @msatt on LES and LET.
Tom @Not_Oles asked me to take over the day to day running of his 'baby' the Free Open Source Software Virtual Private Server system.

Background

The original system was expanding and maintenance, tracking and management was taking up a lot of Tom's time. Tom had kindly given me a free server in which I had installed Proxmox then Tom and I entered into discussions about using Proxmox for FOSSVPS. Tom was very willing to accept the idea and quickly asked me to take over the service. My feelings are that FOSSVPS is Tom's creation and as such he is still 'the boss' but I have followed his original guidelines and started streamlining the service.

I wanted to share something I've been quietly working on and would love your thoughts.
it's LoadMyCode: an experimental platform that lets you chat with your Linux servers using natural language.

What it does (kind of/sort of):

• Chat interface for server management
• AI translates your requests into actual instructions
• Real-time feedback from your servers
• Each server gets its own "personality" (still figuring this part out!)
• We're also experimenting with multi-server conversations, imagine chatting with several servers at once, or having team members collaborate in the same chat where servers can "talk" to each other and coordinate tasks

The wild part we're exploring:

The idea that servers, team members, and AI enables servers could all be in the same conversation figuring things out together. Like "Hey webserver and DB server, can you guys form a private network" while your teammate jumps in with context. It sounds crazy when I type it out, but I think there might be something there.

Why I'm posting here:
It is in very early alpha and honestly, I am not sure if this is useful or just a fun experiment.
If anyone's curious enough to try it out or just wants to chat about the concept, I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback: positive, negative, or just "this is weird but interesting."

I launched a new personal project, directdns.net.

The idea behind this is simple.

Imagine you have a public web server running on the IP address 45.8.22.46, but you’ve configured a specific setup for example.com that isn’t yet pointed to this IP address.

Using DirectDNS, you can input the IP address (45.8.22.46) and the hostname (example.cpm). DirectDNS then generates a reverse proxy that makes the server behave as if example.com were already pointed to it. This allows you to preview and test your website as if it’s fully live under the desired hostname, even before DNS changes are made.

This is particularly useful for demonstrating or troubleshooting websites prior to updating DNS records. It works similarly to services like skipdns.link. In addition, if you wish, you don't have to specify an IP address at all if you just want to access your site without cache.

The application is based in Rust in the backend, and React in the frontend. I'm still learning Rust (it's actually my first time using the language), so there could be some issues that I haven't ironed out yet. I'll open source the project soon once I'm more happier with the code and once I'm more familiarized with Rust.

I also plan on making a free cPanel plugin at some point.

At the moment, links are cleared and will need to be regenerated every so often. Since the project is still in alpha, I'm not entirely sure if I'm happy with the database design, and thus I don't want to have to deal with migrating data to new schemas. Once I'm more closer to finished, I'll eventually have settings for how long the URL should be active.

The API is completely public and unlimited. You just need to send a POST request to /api/create with the hostname and optionally the IP address. It will return a full_url that you can use. I will likely switch away from making reverse proxies on the directdns.net domain, so if you plan on building something with the API, make sure to use the full_url value that's returned.
