        <description><![CDATA[<p>7AM (UTC) on Wednesday May 20th 2025 a BGP message was propagated that triggered surprising (to many) behaviours with two major BGP implementations that are often used for carrying internet traffic.</p>

<p>This caused a large number of “internet facing” BGP sessions to automatically shut down, causing at the very least some routing instability, and at worst brief loss of connectivity for some networks.</p>

<p>I don't hear much about IO Zoom these days, but they have been around for awhile.  There seems to be some sort of problem with their PayPal payment option recently.  Something broke or is no longer working.  It's not clear to me what happened, but this is not an issue I've ever seen before unless an organization was intentionally removing it as an option, which I'm told is not the case.  Hopefully this is not a sign of larger problems.  They are aware of it and expected it to be fixed awhile ago.  The problem has been going on for about two weeks.  If you have anything with them, have a payment coming up, and use PayPal, let this be a notice to you.  I've not seen it mentioned anywhere else.</p>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>If you have service with us, your data is 99.999% probably-fine.  ZFS + UPS meant mostly graceful shutdowns for all but the greediest VMs refusing to stop.</p>

<p>However, the entire city I'm in looks like confetti made of trees and silly string made of power lines.  Announcing it here on LES since this is where 99% of our clients come from.</p>

<p>While our systems have power with a backup, our business line is down and network connectivity is a bust.  With this knowledge, I've powered down the systems in as safe as state as possible and will power back up once I've restored connectivity.</p>

<p>I haven't decided what the compensation for the downtime will be exactly yet, but you will be compensated at least approximately double whatever the downtime is - possibly more.  I'm small and can afford that since we own everything and aren't facing thousands of dollars an hour in losses.</p>

<p>I am in the process of getting a better power system in around july - we've settled on a 22kw system capable of running down to -40 degrees.   We're also going to be replacing our front end router soon, just because I'm kind of over the BS that my CX3080 is giving us.</p>

When we took over MyW it was to save it from a death that was coming with so little warning that data loss was guaranteed before you could migrate out. We weren't entirely certain how we would move forward with the hosting provider. All that we knew was that we weren't going to let everyone lose their data with virtually no warning, and we would figure out the rest as we went. Today we're letting you know that MyW will be permanently closing on July 1, 2025. At that date all customer data will be permanently deleted and will not be recoverable. The billing database containing your information will be deleted just the same, there will remain no record or backup of MyW (at least not any made by us). We are not entertaining any offers for acquisition of the brand, nor any ideas for keeping it running. It has been on life support and it is most fair to you that it be buried properly rather than passed around like a toxic asset.

We also know that many MySQL databases on WDE1 are corrupted after an abusive user on the server generated over 1TB of logs and filled the disk to 100%. It is unlikely that this will ever work better than it is working right now. There is no available time or funding to focus on repairing anything that is wrong with MyW, it will be severely neglected for the remainder of it's life. Please do not have reasonable expectations of it's support, as that will also be neglected. I understand that sounds bad. Fiction always sounds better. I don't deal in fiction.

        <description><![CDATA[<p>I have a Greencloud vm in San Jose that went offline on 21st October 2024.</p>

<p>I opened a ticket, they replied with OS issue and asked to backup using rescue mode.</p>

<p>GC notified customers about Raid Failure. After several update from GC about Raid, mdadm was unable to scan and assemble the drive. They took the vm offline.</p>

<p>I was able to connect using rescue mode and found out it has been encrypted by <strong>junglesec</strong> before they deleted the vm.</p>

<p>Some customers have the same issue, based on a thread on LET. GC denied any breached.</p>

<p>Thanks to your continued support, we’ve outgrown our current rack and have successfully secured two adjacent units in the data center. Unfortunately, this expansion requires us to schedule a period of general downtime. While we’d prefer not to take this route, we have no other choice, as a live migration would take weeks and severely impact performance for everyone.</p>

<p>We’ve been granted access to the data center on 21-SEPT-2024 to move all servers, routers, and switches.</p>

<p>We expect the process to take 4 to 6 hours, during which all HOST-C services will be offline.</p>

<p>Once the devices are set up in the new racks, we will immediately start restoring services.</p>

<p>General downtime is scheduled to begin on 21-SEPT-2024 at 08:00 AM Bucharest Time.</p>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>A faulty component in the latest CrowdStrike Falcon update is crashing Windows systems, impacting various organizations and services across the world, including airports, TV stations, and hospitals.</p>

<p>For those already affected, CrowdStrike provides the following workaround steps:</p>

<ol>
<li>Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment</li>
<li>Navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory</li>
<li>Locate the file matching “C-00000291*.sys”, and delete it.</li>
<li>Boot the host normally.</li>
</ol>

<p>George Kurtz, the President and CEO of CrowdStrike announced a few minutes ago that the company “is actively working with customers” and confirmed that the problems are caused “by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts.”</p>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>My Nexril service had 100% uptime for the last 18 months, now it has gone down the gurgler with multiple outages (seems network-related) every day.  Two in the past hour, per Hetrix.</p>

<p>Within the past few days, they've removed "Support" from the departments for tickets, i.e. the options are now billing, sales &amp; abuse.</p>

<p>Anyone know what's going on with them?  They sent out a thorough RFO after the Carrier-1 DC failure in May, but network issues + no communication + removing the ability to create a support ticket is a red flag, in my book.</p>

<p>According to their status page, all services are listed as under maintenance. Servers in Amsterdam, LA, and Singapore have been offline for the past 21 hours.</p>

<p>It looks like their upstream (Datacamp) has pulled the plug.</p>

<p><a href="https://lowendspirit.com/index.php?p=/profile/MaxKVM" rel="nofollow">@MaxKVM</a> hasn't been active here or in the other green forum for a long time.</p>

<p>They might be reachable via tech(a)semiband.com. Their primary mail server is up (hosted on Hetzner Cloud), but their secondary is hosted on their unreachable subnet.</p>

  <p>We are now scrambling to re-install all those nodes, and have been at it non-stop since last night.</p>
  
  <p>The good news is, there has been no breach to any re-install nodes with the most recent version/patch we have been using for weeks now, so it is just a matter of working thru the platform to re-install/patch each and every node.</p>
  
  <p>We do not have an ETA for full resolution yet, but all services should be restored today at some point, with nodes coming on line one by one as completed.</p>
