Hi!
I'm looking for 3 (or 4) servers in Dallas, US.

For each one:

Different node.

RAM 4gb

CPU: 2+ cores. Something more powerful than an E5v4.

Storage: 80gb - 100gb SSD or NVMe.

Network: 1gbps minimun

Private network would be nice.

$5/m per server is fine?

I'm trying to build a database cluster because I like to suffer.

My compute resources are in Dallas so I can't use another location. Unless I move my dedicated servers... but where? and it would more expensive these days... can we kill AI?

Providers such as V.PS, GreenCloudVPS, GOMAMI, or similar China-optimized providers would be preferred.

The Ask: Looking for Servers & VM Sponsors!

To make this launch as comprehensive and useful as possible, and to include lesser-known servers so it is mostly ready for testing, I want to expand our current server selection. I am looking for providers (or members?) who are interested in:
1. Sharing an existing public iperf3 server you already host.
2. Setting up a public iperf3 server on your own infrastructure for the script. (highest priority)
3. Sponsoring a high-speed VPS/VDS/Dedi (ideally on a 10G link, or at least 2.5G) for us to host a dedicated iperf3 daemon.

Requirements/Preferences:
- Dual-stack (IPv4 + IPv6) is highly preferred.
- Sponsored nodes will be permanently credited with your custom provider/friendly name on the website!

Preferred Locations

While any location worldwide is welcome, below are some preferences:

North America:
* Seattle
* Los Angeles
* Dallas
* Anywhere in Florida
* Ashburn
* New York
* Toronto

Europe:
* Amsterdam
* London
* Frankfurt
* 1 location in the Nordic region
* Western Europe

Nice to have (but impossible for high BW):
* Mexico
* Brazil
* Japan or Hong Kong
* India

If you are a provider with high-speed bandwidth looking to collaborate, please drop a comment below or shoot me a PM!

I know there is an existing thread, but created a new one for visibility and since it is a request.
Thank & Reguard

I have a nice setup with Direct Admin on NameCrane, and it works for the most part perfectly and the support desk have been briliant but they use Imunify360, and I can't turn it off, and it's driving me nuts as it keeps deleting things I want (i.e the adminer instance from one of my plugins), and as it's used for WordPress demos and development, that lasts sometimes 15 minutes. Adding exceptions via the support desk is a no-go.

So I am looking for a replacement. I want the same workflow, so I have some needs

Decent Memory and a couple of cores available and enough space to function ( I am currently on the NC DA Shared 100G) plan

No Imunify360 or at least the ability for me to turn it off for the whole account

Unlimited Addon Domains

Let's Encrypt and ZeroSSL certs - For this (I believe this is a DirectAdmin Function)

API and SSH access to allow me to create subdomains from the command line and delete them again

Softaculous & Wordpress Manager

I am not overly precious about the other functions, but some email functionality and delivery would be good. I have a transaction email plugin I can install. I have written

How I use it

I have about 8 domains I create demos on and build stuff or test features. I spin up a subdomain, clone one of three or four base installs to it and build from there. I create and delete the subdomains from my command line using a bat script, API and SSH to clear up folders before deleting them.

Sometimes a site will last weeks, others and in most cases the average time is about a day, with some much shorter. I use them mainly for feature demos or tutorial videos.

Let me know your offers/suggestions

Hey guys,

Long time lurker, and used to be active on the other green forum - great to see familiar usernames, hope everyone's well.

In a pickle - I support a charity in the UK and we're moving some bits and bobs around. Current webhost isn't quite cutting it (not their fault), and I kinda want something I can set and forget, and not be bothered with. Also, as it's a charity it's the case that cheap is very much good.

Website is a WordPress based monstrosity held together by hope, sellotape, and a Frankenstein Elementor/ACP that has zero documentation and too many plugins. Currently with NameCrane and we're whacking the CPU limits, despite really minimal traffic - it breaks Elementor's back end, and requires me to swear at it for the people who 'manage the website' to be able to use it again. Things are as cached as they can be on the frontend without things breaking.

I could move it over to a VPS, sure, but then there's the issue of nobody being able to manage that if/when I'm no longer supporting - so shared hosting is realistically the option.
So, looking for something that's silly cheap, and would be alright with a badly optimised wordpress site to hit the CPU a couple times a day when someone's in wp-admin.

We're currently on NameCrane's 25GB $3.75/qr plan for reference on how cheapskate this needs to be - thought that'd sort things 6 months ago or so, apparently not.

If anyone has any ideas on hosts, I'd really appreciate it. I'd also welcome creative ways to say 'you need to fix this monstrosity' and/or 'increase the budget on things - I'm completely aware of the deep sighs people will have reading this.

Thoughts and prayers.

Hi everyone,

My name is Naeem, and I’m looking for a small VPS to help me continue learning Linux and experimenting with lightweight desktop environments like Lubuntu and LXQt. This is purely for personal learning — I’m not running anything commercial or heavy.

I don’t need high specs. Even something like:

1 vCPU

512MB–1GB RAM

A few GB of storage

IPv6 or NAT IPv4

…would be more than enough for what I want to do.

My goals are to:

Practice system administration

Set up a minimal Lubuntu/LXQt environment with XRDP or VNC

Learn more about networking, SSH, and remote management

Explore lightweight Linux workflows

I’ll follow all community rules, keep resource usage low, and avoid anything that could cause issues (no mining, no bots, no spam). I just want a stable place to learn and grow my skills.

If anyone has a spare VPS slot or knows of an opportunity within the community, I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks for taking the time to read my request.

What's the cheapest hourly-billed VPS to play with public-facing services with full IPv6 support??

I'm sure there's a ton of options, so I'll qualify a bit:

Europe

full /64 IPv6 per VPS

No setup cost

Hourly billing

No special offers

1 vCPU / 1 GB RAM / 10 GB NVME

The best IPv4 box I found was hetzner for almost €5/month. Pathetic. Surely ipv6 is more along the LES spirit

I have been reading about the ransomware attacks that hit Cloudcone and now maybe Hostslick. Seems like there is some exploit in Virtualizor now as it's hitting different providers and not just Cloudcone's custom backend like someone said here.

It looks like all these hackers wanted was to ransom the data, but this presents a security issue, like what if they were able to access and leak the personal data (edit, lol sorry forgot to finish this thought!)

There was previously a thread on setting up LUKS encryption on my VPS which I have done. However I am now feeling quite dismayed seeing that anyone with hypervisor access can trivially decrypt the key from the running ram of the machine, I would assume also the ransomware hackers would have access to this if they had hypervisor access.

The only mitigation against being able to pull the RAM key if I understand correctly is if the VPS provider has a CPU that supports encrypted RAM and also enables this CPU flag in the VPS themselves. I don't think it is very common for VPS providers to support encrypted ram but if anyone has a list let me know.

I was recently playing around with systemd-homed on my home machines which keeps the home dir encrypted, even to root. I haven't tried it on VPS but I wonder if that would provide an additional layer of security against something like this attack, as maybe they would grab the ram key, but my user's home directory would still be encrypted inside that image. Actually I wonder if that's the case and systemd-homed works to encrypt the user directory would there be any benefits in using LUKS for the full drive over systemd-homed on the user's home?

Just feeling a little bummed right now that we don't have more protection for our data being leaked against these types of attacks even if we did everything right. Maybe this could push more providers to move towards encrypted ram, etc.

I don't know a bunch about this area and I'm still learning so please let me know if there's anything else I'm missing about how to further secure private data on a VPS if an adversary got hypervisor access.

I'm interested in providers or leads to providers who can supply IP4+IP6 full routes. Presumably this would be as part of an on-net leased system or set of systems if you have unique upstream/peer routes in different locations. However, if you'd support a multi-hop session to a remote off-net collector for some nominal fee that would work too.

The option to announce routes might be nice with the on-net option, but not necessary especially if getting a receive-only feed is more palatable for those that don't normally do this (and you can make it cheaper for me).

I'd prefer a modestly sized VM if on-net. 2GB of RAM, 20GB disk, 1 CPU should be about right for example. If you really insist on a dedicated server I'd possibly entertain that, but probably the cheapest you've got. I'm reluctant to pay recurring fees just to get routes if I'm also getting a system and not announcing routes, but if you insist I'm happy to know what your pricing model is.

TCP MD5 auth preferred if you can support it.

At least one session each for IP4 and IP6. I'd be surprised if anyone who supports this doesn't have IP6, but if that's you I might still be interested depending on who you are. Vice-versa if you're a IP6-only connected net, but I'd be shocked if you exist outside of hobbyist nets. :-)

Preferred budget is essentially the going rates for the VM specified above, but I'm open to something reasonable, especially if unique.

And I do know about bgp.services, bgp.cheap, route-views, RIPE RIS, and many other sources of routing data near-time, real-time and providers with BGP feeds, but feel free to reply with your favorite resources or providers if want to make sure I know about them.

I'll bring my own ASN with proof of control for it and any associated prefixes that can be originated by it (e.g., LoA, IRR policy, ROAs, email validation).
