Hi - It has been a while since our last update and there have been some changes due to abuse issues from NodeSeek clients.

29th of May VPS's belonging to NodeSeek clients will be terminated with no records kept. Emails have been sent and forum posts made.

Nodeseek is no longer an accepted forum for potential new clients.

Clients with good non spammy reputations are only accepted from LET or LES.

Registration via a VPN is blocked.

Throw away email addresses are blocked.

Registering from Russia, China or North Korea is blocked.

Abuse of any type (service, verbal etc) will result in VPS termination.

There is a common misconception that there has to be a catch when signing up for a free VPS. Well as far as I am concerned there is not. We ask for your Name, email address and GIT / Web url. This information is only used for direct service type communication and verification. All we ask in return is that you thank and support us and our donors.
FOSSVPS will NEVER pass your data to any other organisation other than any legal requirement.

I thought I would share some of the communication I have had with a client (keeping it anonymous).

FOSSVPS April 1st

Hi I want to make you aware that your VMID XXX on XXX has continuous dual CPU usage of 35%+ for over 5 days.

Please understand this free service is for Open Source development and while usage can burst, sustained is not reasonable.

What you are doing can affect others, so your usage has been forcibly reduced to 10% in the hypervisor.

Please rectify your usage and inform me of your actions and I can then release the CPU restraints allowing for normal VM speeds.

Client May 21

Ok

FOSSVPS May 21

That was sent on April 1st !!!! Also no apology. That is unreasonable behaviour. You abused FOSSVPS.

Client May 21

I'm AFK,m cause have a job on RL,m that's why i apologize. What should i do?

I decided that this LET user is not capable of using a VPS or developing Open Source Software. So bye bye.

Being 'strict' with a free resource is necessary - it is not in my nature to do this but I must protect FOSSVPS and our generous donors - ( @Alexhost, @Hosteroid, @st-hosting and Jetnode ).

Because of the NodeSeek termination we have plenty of resources available for new honest clients.

For those new to the forum, FOSSVPS provide a free 2vcpu, 4GB RAM, 64GB disk with ipv6 and NAT ipv4.
To qualify you must

Be an Open Source developer (Using Open Source does not qualify),

Be an active member of LET or LES and have

Quality (not spammy) posts

Thanks for your posts

Been a member for at least 3 months

Come along and join us - genuine developers are really welcome.

Best wishes
Mike

As a mission oriented company dedicated to decentralizing the internet using IPv6 in order to promote more freedoms [1] for people, one of the important things that we do is open source our software. This leads to more peace of mind for our users which in turn helps the business side of IPv6rs, which in turn helps to fund our development.

We open sourced our reverse proxy, delorean, which is used live on the IPv6rs network. Delorean receives HTTP or TLS traffic via IPv4 and if a suitable IPv6 for the same name is found, routes it to said IPv6 IP.

This is how we provide IPv4 ingress to our users' websites. We hope you find this free open source software useful!

[1] E.g., freedom of speech, freedom of access to information, etc.

They use something called LOWA.

https://www.makeuseof.com/use-libreoffice-in-web-browser/

Bring it on, Mr. Lowa Lowa….

Though personally I am not sure why I should download a 300 MB install in my browser cache (?). Plus, NC (or Yunohost) allow me to do the same. As Collabora.

Edit 1: also Onlyoffice as mentioned by @sanvit below.

So what really is the utility of web based Libreoffice? Is it a case of too little, too late ?

(I use LO in offline mode extensively)

Edit2: the 300 MB download does take time! 10 minutes and counting on my 200 Mbps connection. Even turned off VPN. Interesting that the status says
