Repost because I edited the last one to add clarity, and it deleted the poll.

Part 2, as promised, I think Part 1 has run its natural life.

I have to admit, I started this with the personal feeling that the price had to go up, my mind was changed. It's good to talk

What became obvious is that the price is not the singular problem, $7 must stay, it is meaningful, but it may not be fit for the original purpose it was supposed to have.

Having thought about it, I believe this is a rare case where we can actually cater for everyone, here is what I propose based on the collective comments from Part 1.

Rule and small platform change.

$7 stays exactly how it is in the regular offers section (not a change, just for the avoidance of doubt).

We add a section for $15 p/year or less offers. These are real LE* Spirit offers for those of us who still have it, and we add a perk for hosts that can offer these (Perk to be decided)

We change the existing LES Exclusive offers section and rules, the new rule is that they don't need to be exclusive , but you can only post in here once every 2 (maybe 4) weeks, they are still for logged-in users only, we pick a meaningful name that clearly indicates the intent and make it known these are for logged in users only and not google indexed no other limitations

This caters for allowing hosts to be able to show off some of their higher-end plans; some of the community wants that, clearly, hosts do. This allows the general weekly $7 offers continue. This puts some real spirit back into LES.

If carefully executed, I really do not see a downside, unless you feel more offer posts are a bad thing, in which case I just have to kind of suck in some air and bare my teeth and shrug.

Do you think we will see a return to SSD/NVMe cached HDD in the LE* world?

Looking at some interesting charts today https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/trends/price/internal-hard-drive/#storage.ssdm2nvme.1000

showing around a 60 - 125% (roughly) increase in NVMe prices in just 3 months, and with a few big names like WD recently announcing that they have already sold all stock for 2026 to AI/Top 10 customers, 2027 being close to the same position and its expected all manufacturors will be in the same position within weeks or months and that will extend to 2028 in some cases.... things are going to get MUCH worse some casual bro science reading suggests 1000% increase by 2027.

The thing with NVMe is the 2nd hard market is terrible, you literally cant trust them and NVMe in general have a much shorter life than spinning rust.

I am wondering what this really means, if you think LE hosts are going to be paying $5000 per 1TB NVMe (Not even considering RAM and Power Prices) and selling at $7 you are delusional.

I wonder if we will start to see more NVMe cached options come up, HDD's are still expensive, not NVMe expensive and have a much longer life span.

I know many of you will turn your nose up at this and want low price, fast and reliable, but with the recent OVH and Hetzner corrective steps are you going to be willing to pay double or triple for a VPS or would you rather stick to the cheaper options and reduce your requirements (optimise)

Maybe the $7 is about to self-correct anyway, after all the recent talk about it.

An interesting few years ahead.

C-Servers Announces Migration to VirtFusion-Based VPS Services

At C-Servers, we are continuously committed to refining our commercial offering and delivering reliable, high-performance services at competitive prices. Throughout such a process, we actively listen to our customers and incorporate their feedback accordingly.

Following sustained user feedback and the recent in-house development of a provisioning module for our billing platform, WiseCP, we have taken the difficult decision to deprecate SolusVM 2 as our primary VPS management panel.

And, as of 23 December 2025, C-Servers will begin to market VirtFusion-based VPS services on our main offerings, under the MultiVPS and JumboDisk product tiers - starting with our new server in Falkenstein, Germany.

The VirtFusion platform will also be adopted progressively across product launches and new service lines in additional locations, as well as existing VPS services, with customer migrations planned to begin in 2026, ensuring a controlled and smooth transition to our existing customers - as much as possible.

Why Transition from an Established Platform?

This decision was not taken lightly.

When SolusVM was originally selected, it followed extensive internal testing and was, at the time, aligned with our requirements for usability and customer experience. However, as our infrastructure and customer base have grown, several structural and operational limitations became progressively clear.

The primary driver behind this transition is network and NAT handling. SolusVM’s long-standing lack of native NAT functionality has led us to seek external implementations, which introduced complexity and operational friction. Over the past 12 months, we observed repeated customer difficulties related to NAT usage, resulting in avoidable support overhead and, of course, the natural inconvenience it brought.

In addition, several other usability difficulties influenced our decision, including:

» Manual intervention requirements when virtual machines fail to restart automatically after host reboots, impacting overall uptime,

» Specific, occasional Open vSwitch-configured network discovery behaviors causing (very punctually) added latency, which only started to occur after a relevant number of VPS users were on dedicated servers;

» Backup tooling limitations, particularly performance and throughput.

Advantages of VirtFusion

With VirtFusion, we are introducing a more modern, resilient, and scalable architecture. We are explicitly abandoning our previous NAT system through socat and NAT64/DNS64, and we are focusing on a DNS-direct, NAT-direct solution.

Whenever possible, we'll use MacVTap; but on NAT solutions, we're now using libvirt bridging paired with Cloudflare DNS servers.

Other improvements include:
» Expanded NAT port allocations, increasing from 10+5 to 20+3 ports,
» Full support for standard IPv4-to-IPv4 service hosting, compatibility with all common web hosting control panels, and customer-managed NAT port ranges.

These changes significantly enhance flexibility, performance, and overall value for VPS customers—particularly for networking-intensive workloads.

Beyond networking, customers will also experience relevant improvements in usability, performance consistency, and operational/uptime reliability, delivered through a platform that is both widely adopted and well-established in the industry.

Importantly, this transition does not materially affect pricing, which solely increases on the range of 0,10 USD per month for newer customers. Of course, upon migration, existing customers will retain their current pricing with C-Servers.

So, when will it be available?

The first VirtFusion-based MultiVPS plans will be available for immediate deployment starting at 11h00 GMT +0, at our website.

A new chapter awaits - and with you, more than ever before, we are making sure you C-Servers.
Merry Christmas!

The response from the community has been extremely positive and we even have a FOSSVPS user donating a dedicated server coming online soon. I ( @msatt ) just added a second of my own servers (us2) in Los Angeles, so we have the US East and West coast covered.

FOSSVPS has no income and is a team of 6 volunteers. Apart from a free VPS there are no other rewards. This is driven by the community and is for the community.

If you missed our NPM update - clients that use our NAT service can use NPM (reverse proxy), which directs any domain name, port 80/442 traffic to your internal VPS IP address. So for web applications, it is no longer necessary to have a static IPv4.
Our version of NPM has been released as Open Source by @nstorm and can be of benefit to many hosting providers.

Dear Users of LowendSpirit!

Some of you know who I am, some don't.
As the owner of mrVM, I have been here since the dawn of LES as a Provider but lately haven't had the time to be as active as I used to be.

About a year ago, probably longer, I announced that I was about to pass the ownership over to another Provider here on LES.
At that time, the Provider was never revealed and the shift came to a complete stop due to my lack of time, and for that I can only apologize.

The history behind this is that I left my employment to become my own consultant in IT-services 30 months ago.
Eager to get everything running and inexperienced as a newcomer on the playing field, I accepted (almost) every job opportunity that I came across which pretty soon bit me right in the bee-hind.

At this point I worked 60+ hours a week with my new company, on top of that, I have three active kids and mrVM was the part of my life that I had to neglect.

Earlier this week I reached out to the Provider I had talked with and asked if he was still interested and he was.

With this post, a new try has begun to make a proper takeover this time.
Guess it's time to reveal the new Provider and I'm sure all, or most of you know of him.

@SGraf, welcome up on stage and take a bow.

I choose @SGraf among other interested Providers due to his experience in the hosting business and successful saves of other Providers.

Today marks the day when @SGraf gets access to WHMCS data and the work to inventory all nodes and current status.

As part of the agreement between us, the current number of nodes and locations will be intact.
A new client panel will be installed and ONLY customers who want to stay, will be migrated over.

I will let @SGraf present a crude time plan as I will let him take the lead and dictate the migration speed.

With this (short) post, I will open the comments for a quick AMA....... and I will do my best to answer every question.

Here in Sweden, it's almost bedtime, so I might be AFK and not answer any questions for some time.... until the kids sleep.

Hey folks,

Wanted to share an important update about MicroNode hosting. I’ve decided to roll all of the packages into one simple, consolidated option — the Snowflake Plan which is 15 USD a year.

👉 The Snowflake Plan:

512 MB RAM

20 GB Disk Space

500 GB Bandwidth

What this means:

Existing clients: All existing clients have been moved to this plan and will keep it until the end of their respective terms.

Future clients: everything is now standardized to the Snowflake Plan. This makes things easier to manage on the backend and ensures that resources are allocated more fairly across the board.

The reason for doing this is pretty simple — I’d rather focus on running a stable and sustainable platform than splitting resources across too many tiny plan tiers. This keeps the service affordable, reliable, and fair to everyone.

If you want to grab a Snowflake instance, you can get one here:
👉 Sign Up Now!!

Thanks again to everyone who’s supported MicroNode — you’ve helped me keep this community-driven project alive.

Q: Are the resources dedicated?
A: No, they are fair share.

Q: What does "Free Support (Unmanaged)" mean?
A: We do offer free customer support, limited to network and access related queries. We do not help with software installation, or troubleshooting, if it's not our fault.

Future plans:

As we said in earlier discussions, we are still working on Free LXC servers, and student pack. Sorry to keep y'all waiting, but all things have to be carefully considered, as free services can be really easly abused and it could be a really big problem for us.

The following code and its documentation were generated using ChatGPT model (o1-preview). I had considered writing this code myself some time ago but hadn’t found the time to do so. Here is the code along with an overview written by ChatGPT. I would appreciate any feedback on how it can be further improved or if there are any mistakes.

Code available at:
https://pastebin.com/cdrxhUSU

nat_manager.py
  Quick Start Guide

nat_manager.py
is a Python script designed to manage NAT (Network Address Translation) and port forwarding rules for VMs and containers in a Proxmox environment. The script utilizes
iptables
to configure NAT rules and allows for easy addition, removal, listing, updating, exporting, and importing of port mappings.

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up the network, using the script, and provides examples for common operations.

Network Setup in Proxmox

To use
nat_manager.py
effectively, you need to set up a bridge network (
vmbr1
) on your Proxmox server. This bridge will use a private IP range and manage the NAT and port forwarding for your VMs and containers.

1. Configure the Bridge Network (
vmbr1
)

Edit the
/etc/network/interfaces
file to configure the bridge network interface
vmbr1
:

sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces

Add the following configuration:

auto vmbr1
iface vmbr1 inet static
    address 10.0.0.1/24
    bridge-ports none
    bridge-stp off
    bridge-fd 0

    post-up iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 10.0.0.0/24 -o <YOUR_PUBLIC_INTERFACE> -j MASQUERADE
    post-down iptables -t nat -D POSTROUTING -s 10.0.0.0/24 -o <YOUR_PUBLIC_INTERFACE> -j MASQUERADE

<YOUR_PUBLIC_INTERFACE>
: Replace this with your network interface that has a public IP (e.g.,
enp0s3
).

2. Enable IP Forwarding

To ensure IP forwarding is enabled permanently, add the following line to
/etc/sysctl.conf
:

net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1

Apply the changes:

sudo sysctl -p

3. Restart Networking Service

Restart the networking service to apply the changes:

sudo systemctl restart networking

4. Install Required Packages

To ensure
iptables
  rules persist across reboots, install
iptables-persistent
  and other required packages:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install iptables-persistent python3 python3-pip sqlite3 -y

iptables-persistent
: Allows
iptables
rules to be saved and restored on boot.

python3
  and
sqlite3
: Required for running the
nat_manager.py
  script.

Using
nat_manager.py

Run
nat_manager.py
using Python3. Below are the various usage instructions for managing NAT and port forwarding rules for your VMs and containers.

python3 nat_manager.py -h
usage: nat_manager.py [-h]
                      {add,remove,list,update,reserve,unreserve,list-reserved,export,import,backup,restore,rebuild-db}
                      ...

NAT Manager Script

positional arguments:
  {add,remove,list,update,reserve,unreserve,list-reserved,export,import,backup,restore,rebuild-db}
                        Available actions
add Add port mappings for a container
remove Remove port mappings for a container

1. Add Port Mappings

To add NAT port forwarding rules for a VM or container with an internal IP address (e.g.,
10.0.0.5
):

sudo python3 nat_manager.py add <container_ip> --mode <automatic|manual> --num-ports <N>

Parameters:

<container_ip>
: Internal IP address of the VM/container (e.g.,
10.0.0.5
).

--mode
: Mode for adding ports,
automatic
  (default) or
manual
.

--num-ports <N>
: Number of ports to forward (default:
6
).

Examples:

Automatic Mode:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py add 10.0.0.5 --mode automatic --num-ports 4

This command automatically assigns 4 external ports (starting from
50000
) to forward traffic to standard internal ports (e.g.,
22
,
80
,
443
,
8080
) on
10.0.0.5
.

Manual Mode:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py add 10.0.0.5 --mode manual --external-ports 50000 50001 --internal-ports 22 80 --protocols tcp udp

This command manually assigns external ports
50000
  (TCP) and
50001
(UDP) to forward to internal ports
22
  (SSH) and
80
  (HTTP) on
10.0.0.5
.

2. Remove Port Mappings

To remove all port forwarding rules associated with a specific container IP:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py remove <container_ip>

Example:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py remove 10.0.0.5

Examples:

Interactive Mode:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py update 10.0.0.5

This command will prompt you to update the internal ports or protocols for each external port currently mapped to
10.0.0.5
. Leave input blank to keep the current mapping.

Non-Interactive Mode:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py update 10.0.0.5 --external-ports 50000 50001 --internal-ports 2222 8081 --protocols tcp udp

This command updates the external port
50000
  to forward to internal port
2222
  (TCP) and
50001
  to forward to
8081
  (UDP) on
10.0.0.5
.

5. Export and Import Port Mappings

You can export current port mappings to a JSON file for backup purposes or import them from a JSON file.

Export Port Mappings:

This command exports the current port mappings to
export.json
.

Import Port Mappings:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py import /path/to/export.json

This command imports port mappings from
export.json
.

6. Backup and Restore Configuration

You can backup the current configuration of
iptables
and port mappings or restore from a backup.

Backup Current Configuration:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py backup

This creates a backup of the current
iptables
  rules and port mappings database.

Restore Configuration from Backup:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py restore <timestamp>

Replace
<timestamp>
with the desired backup timestamp (e.g.,
backup_20230917123045
).

7. Rebuild the Database from Existing
iptables
  Rules

If the SQLite database is lost or out of sync with
iptables
  rules, you can rebuild it:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py rebuild-db

This command scans existing
iptables
rules and reconstructs the database for consistency.

Important Notes

IP Forwarding: Ensure IP forwarding is enabled by adding
net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1
  to
/etc/sysctl.conf
  and running
sudo sysctl -p
.

Save
iptables
Rules: To ensure the rules persist after reboot, use
iptables-save > /etc/iptables/rules.v4
  and
iptables-restore < /etc/iptables/rules.v4
.

Check
iptables-persistent
: Ensure
iptables-persistent
is installed and enabled to manage rule persistence:

sudo apt-get install iptables-persistent -y
sudo netfilter-persistent save

Network Configuration for VM/Container in Proxmox

When creating a VM or container in Proxmox that will use NAT:

Micronode Instances - Launching Black Friday

What on earth is a Micronode Instance?

The Micronode instance range is a way for you to create virtual private servers in any of our locations at any specification you like.

What are the costs?

MicroNode instances work on a pre-paid credit based system. Credits are valid for 1 year regardless of the amount of resource used.

Credits cost £10 per year each however we will be offering 50% off on the Black Friday launch.

What does one credit give me?

Once credit = 512MB RAM and 20GB Disk

What happens when I've used all of my resources?

You can simply purchase more credits or delete some instances to free up resource.

What about CPU cores?

Instances can only ever be single core.

How many instances does 1 credit get me?

The Minimum requirements to provision an instance is 64MB RAM and 3GB disk. You can provision up to 6 instances with 3GB Disk and 85MB RAM or less higher spec'd instances.

But you only have 3 locations

As more locations are added to our NatVPS range they will also become available to Micronode instances. We aim to add a minimum of 4 locations per year.

What happens if a location is out of stock?

We will aim to add more stock as soon as possible. We will ensure that at least 1 location has available resources to create instances. You will not be entitled to a refund unless no locations are available.

Is this fully supported?

No. Instances come with no support unless a location is down. If your instance is down the recommendation is to delete it and create a new one.

Can I re-install the OS on an instance?

No. Instances cannot be re-provisioned, they must be deleted and re-created.

If I delete an instance can I get the IP address(es) back?

No

Can I migrate an instance to another location?

No. You can however delete your instance and re-create it in another location.

Can I change the specifications of an instance?

No. You can however delete your instance and re-create it with your required specifications.

TLDR: Micronode instances are a way for you to create virtual private servers in any of our locations at any specification you like. The price is £10 per year for 512MB RAM and 20GB Disk.

These will launch on Black Friday along with a brand new location, these will be reduced to 50% off for Black Friday only!

These are NAT only and IPv6 may be tunneled in some locations. Don't like tunneled IPv6? Pretend there is no IPv6 connectivity and use IPv4!

Please let us know if anyone has any questions or feedback, this is a new market for us and we're trying to answer everyone's questions before launch.

I'm trying to setup WireGuard VPN (TunSafe for that matter) on my NAT OpenVZ VPS running Debian 10. I have an ansible playbook I created to set it up on 'regular' KVM VPSes that I used. The issue I have is with the iptables rules that are needed to route/forward the traffic between the client and the server properly; they don't seem to work.

On my KVM VPSes, I'm using the iptables rule
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE

which would translate to
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o venet0 -j MASQUERADE
for OpenVZ I figured. However, iptables on my OpenVZ NAT VPS complains 'Chain 'MASQUERADE' does not exist'.

I already switched to the legacy version of iptables instead of nf using
update-alternatives –config iptables
but the error remains. And indeed, if I run
iptables -L
I see only three chains: INPUT, FORWARD and OUTPUT...

In the meantime I found this set of iptables rules that makes the VPN connection work:

#Forwarding
iptables -A FORWARD -i venet0 -o tun0 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A FORWARD -i tun0 -o venet0 -m conntrack --ctstate RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o tun0 -j MASQUERADE
#Hardening?
iptables -A INPUT -i tun0 -m conntrack --ctstate RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
iptables -A INPUT -i tun0 -j DROP

However, apart from being 5 rules instead of just 1 simple rule, I'm not sure if the rules above are too permissive.

Since I'm no iptables hero myself, I was hoping someone could help me out here in figuring out the correct set of iptables rules to get WireGuard running on my NAT VPS.

Thanks!

Similar to @AnthonySmith 's littlehappycloud earlier, except considering LXC for the performance advantages. (you do get 25% dedicated, 100% burstable vcores with LXC too)

What do you think? have you tried LXC yet,
Will you give this LXC VM a try.. or do we strictly need a KVM?

Will will have a separate NAT KVM line with dedicated cores for Windows machines.

What is a NAT VPS?

Network Address Translation (NAT) is the process where a network device, usually a firewall, assigns a public address to a computer (or group of computers) inside a private network.
So a VPS that’s utilizing this kind of technology is shortly understand-able as a VPS with shared IPv4.
It comes with a dedicated IPv6 subnet.
In low end vps world, the main purpose of NATted VPS is also to make the price as low as possible.
Most popular OS choices like Ubuntu, Debian and CentOS can be installed from the control panel.

Shortly it’s just like any common VPS, but it comes with Shared IPv4, not dedicated.

All plans come with /112 IPv6 Subnet, NAT IPv4 with 20 usable ports + 1 SSH port, Domain Forwarding(host on IPv4 port 80/443)

What can you use this kind VPS? Here it is few examples of what you can do with it:

Host a full-fledged website (w any CMS like Wordpress, Ghost etc) on port 80/443

VPN - Most protocols including OpenVPN & Wireguard can be used.

Proxy (private, protected)

IRC client/server (IPv6)

VoiP apps like Teamspeak, Mumble etc.

Anything you want with native IPv6

A simple remote terminal with root access, testing scripts & other stuff.

A light usage remote desktop.

Distributed database, Web Scrapers etc.

Many more possibilities....may ask in this thread.
