I was about to post a new offer, really more to provide some updates, it's probably not good, @msatt was probably right

I decided to just post a single TierHive thread instead. I might still post some offers and specials from time to time, but for now, I will keep it contained to a single thread for updates etc, as most offer threads seem to turn in to that anyway.

So what's been going on recently?

Updates in live bullet points to keep it simple

IPv6 was added, its free, you get 1 x /64 per location and can then add individual addresses from that /64 to any VPS in that location, elastic IPv6 coming based on user take-up over 6 months, Current user take-up on IPv6 is 1.5% This is measured by the number of users that have allocated at least 1 IPv6 address to a VPS.

Users can now allocate 5 additional NAT ports in addition to the SSH port.

Users can now manage the internal forwarding of ports, so for example, if you are allocated 2345 you can have that forward to 8080 internal if you want.

You can now download your SSL certificate from the HAProxy directly. I don't fully understand why anyone wants this, but it's a very popular request.

We have introduced burst buckets on IOPS and Network as of today for network and disk, you now can now double your tier limit for 5 seconds continuously, any VPS that existed before today will need to change their network and disk tier down and up again to gain access to this (Sorry, it's a pain in the ass to do restrospectivley) so if medium tier is on 300mbit for example you will be able to do 600mbit for 5 seconds sustained, then when you idle again below 300mbit your bucket empties and you can burst up again on demand. (Hope I explained that ok)

You can now copy the IP, Port or whole ssh string separately in the UI, aparently that was annoying for Windows users.

Crypto mining detectors are now deployed on all nodes, load dropped globally by 50% in the first hour haha.. just wow.

We decided to remove the network disk options and the sql service, and the mail relay, even fewer people use this than use IPv6 so it's not really worth the code maintenance and complexity. It might come back one day, for now its not worth it, you will still be able to attack backups as network disks.

We plan to decouple the backups from the VPS so that you can put a VPS disk image on cold storage.

Added an FAQ which is being built following support tickets to provide real answers without needing to open a ticket, but you can if you want anyway.

Things we are playing with now that may make it out of the sand pit version.

A static hosting layer, which will likely just be free to any user with a positive balance, details still in progress.

We want to start charging less for shut down VPS, obviously we still maintain the mesh elements, the disk/data, and the firewall and port reservations and have to account for the fact that you can boot it at any time, but initially I am thinking 50% discount for powered off servers, it helps us keep it cheap if you make the effort to shut down when not using it.

unikernels - not me playing with this, I think its an interesting idea but lets see where it goes

Bring your own image automation, this will have 2 modes, give us the key or password for another running VPS somewhere else and we will try to import it, obviously its best if thats in rescue mode but not absolutely needed, and just give us the url to a qcow2 or raw image and we will do the rest.

long long long term, personal project I am working on multiplexing VNC for audio into a custom html5 client using a single WebSocket, but this is actually sort of for another project but would be cool in TierHive.

It makes me very sad how few people have enabled DHCP or mess with the DHCP options for your scopes, it took me bloody ages to get it working over the whole /24 regardless of location, so I will probably end up being free, if people still don't use it, ah well, its done, nothing new to add.

network page for network tests and mesh status.

And thats it, thats my update, probably missed 100 minor things but at least I have a thread to do it in now.

Coming soon / general project update

We have been looking more closely at what we already have in place and what the project use looks like.

Big takeaways so far this is just my stream of consciousness spilling out on the keyboard really:

No one wants a mail relay, but is exists so its not going anywhere.

You can say no thank you to China all you want, China does not care.

Vietnam is removed from the block list.

We allow ordering from DC IP's, proxies and VPNs now, we just dont always give free credit (You get warned first during sign up if that's likely to happen)

Alpine is WAY more popular in general than I thought, to the point I have started to love it myself.

Coming up to 1500 live users, we are now considering if we want to add new locations, we are thinking NYC Metro area or boring but safe France/Poland/Netherlands

No one really wants sql offloading

HAProxy is proving VERY popular, we enabled http/2 (was missing)

We are looking to implement the CDN elements, caching, etc at the HAProxy edges.

Haproxy Global distribution for your domain is available now, so every edge will accept and route the traffic over your meshed subnet and hold your SSL for faster TTFP, the myth of having many IPs pointing to your domain also is available as standard here too, my jury is out on that one for SEO.

Support requirements have been supprisingly minimal, so thats a good sign.

We are looking to add traffic stats to the dashboard from the HAProxy servers for your hosted domains and may implement opt in honey pot and WAF features so we can start eating the shit before it hits your VPS.

recipe market place is hit and miss, more people are using it than expected for their own scripted server and stack deployments but keeping them private, almost no one is making anything public, so we are considering seperating this out in to optional quick deployments directly into the VPS creation process to replace recipes and having your own automation section for your own stacks, say "Throw out 5 VPS in each location and run these scraipts/commands in this order on VPS 1,2,3 and these commands and scripts on vps 4 and 5.

I am sad that almost no is playing with the ipxe/pxe options in the network/dhcp section, maybe that should just be free.

Considering moving to BETA end of Feb, earlier than expected, but we have had fewer issues than expected.

I need to do more work on the templates, we use the defaults for the most part from the official distros but they are more bloated than then need to be.

Happy to answer questions in the comments.

Thanks to Alexhost and Hosteroid

Because of their very generous donations, FOSSVPS is able to grow and support the Open Source Community.

The response from the community has been extremely positive and we even have a FOSSVPS user donating a dedicated server coming online soon. I ( @msatt ) just added a second of my own servers (us2) in Los Angeles, so we have the US East and West coast covered.

We still have space available (read on)

FOSSVPS has no income and is a team of 6 volunteers. Apart from a free VPS there are no other rewards. This is driven by the community and is for the community.

If you missed our NPM update - clients that use our NAT service can use NPM (reverse proxy), which directs any domain name, port 80/442 traffic to your internal VPS IP address. So for web applications, it is no longer necessary to have a static IPv4.
Our version of NPM has been released as Open Source by @nstorm and can be of benefit to many hosting providers.

Absolutely FREE, no catches, no credits, no price bumps.
Server locations and end dates are always on our website at https://fossvps.org and currently are :-

I am Mike Parker aka @msatt on LES and LET.
Tom @Not_Oles asked me to take over the day to day running of his 'baby' the Free Open Source Software Virtual Private Server system.

Background

The original system was expanding and maintenance, tracking and management was taking up a lot of Tom's time. Tom had kindly given me a free server in which I had installed Proxmox then Tom and I entered into discussions about using Proxmox for FOSSVPS. Tom was very willing to accept the idea and quickly asked me to take over the service. My feelings are that FOSSVPS is Tom's creation and as such he is still 'the boss' but I have followed his original guidelines and started streamlining the service.

Contributions

FOSSVPS is absolutely non profit in fact we have no money and will not ask for any. Our VPS's are made available because of the fantastic generosity of some of the great hosts on LES and LET, currently Onlyservers, Hosteroid and Alexhost and can offer a free VPS in the UK, Romania and Moldova.

Rules for a free VPS

Free and open source software only.
White hat only.
Not for commercial use.
No service level agreement.
Ephemeral. Could disappear at any moment!
Clueless™ Administrator!

The VPS is free for Open Source developers. If you would like a VPS, post a message here and one of the team will get in touch via PM. They will want to know what you are developing and preferably some links to your previous developments. Acceptance will give you 2 VCPU, 4GiB Ram, 64GiB hdd and provide NAT + IPv6 /96 access with either Ubuntu, Debian or Alpine in your preferred location. The servers won't last forever but we will always give you as much notice as possible, it all depends on our fantastic donors.
Finally this is Open - we will need your email address (purely for admin) so don't make a request if you wish to be anonymous.

Hi Folks,

Today, we launched version 0.2.2 Alpha of TierHive. Many fixes are in, thanks to user feedback and also many things we did not consider at scale were improved so not much is visible. This was really the first big maintenance tranche of work.

There was an issue with the PostgreSQL database imports that was fixed.

Some customer subnet isolation rules were not working and this has been fixed.

MANY admin-side things have been fixed.

Better filtering is in place for duplicate accounts (Free token abusers)

The resource settings slider for disk no longer defaults to 10GB, causing accidental upgrades.

The REFFERALS system is in place now and visible, so you can get FREE tokens hourly for links or an X/tweet, doubled for now!

Reminder - This product is still in Alpha

Cost: FREE Tokens when you sign up, try before you buy, we only need a username and email address.

Examples of the cheapest and most expensive VPS:

1 x vCPU

128MB Ram

1 GB Disk

Free priority tier
$0.000135 per hour | $0.00324 per day | $0.09855 per month | $1.1826 per year

1 x vCPU

2048 MB Ram

25 GB Disk

What We Offer and Why It's Different.

NAT Hourly VPS service with a network first principal, upon sign-up (free tokens) or first payment, your network is setup, you get a whole /24 e.g. 10.55.44.0/24, this is meshed across all locations for you, so you can create a vps in Germany and a vps in the UK and a VPS in Canada and they can all talk to each other directly on your own isolated network as if they were on the same LAN.

You can self-migrate your own servers between regions.

You can change your own Ram/Disk and priority tier resources for your VPS

You get 2 TCP/UDP ports forwarded to every VPS you create so it becomes reachable from outside.

We offer HAProxy + SSL termination at no extra cost, and provide starter webserver configs for compatibility.

Email relay services, we also allow email through most major relays as standard.

Database offloading, let us do that compute work for you.

Recipe system, want to deploy WireGuard to 200 VPS at once? , want to deploy 100 VPS at once?, want to deploy a LibreNMS cluster with nodes? , Want your known dev environment set up automatically for you? Just create and save a recipe, 1-click deployment! Share it publicly and earn tokens as others use it.

1 Hour minimum for the Hourly VPS

Dear Users of LowendSpirit!

Some of you know who I am, some don't.
As the owner of mrVM, I have been here since the dawn of LES as a Provider but lately haven't had the time to be as active as I used to be.

About a year ago, probably longer, I announced that I was about to pass the ownership over to another Provider here on LES.
At that time, the Provider was never revealed and the shift came to a complete stop due to my lack of time, and for that I can only apologize.

The history behind this is that I left my employment to become my own consultant in IT-services 30 months ago.
Eager to get everything running and inexperienced as a newcomer on the playing field, I accepted (almost) every job opportunity that I came across which pretty soon bit me right in the bee-hind.

At this point I worked 60+ hours a week with my new company, on top of that, I have three active kids and mrVM was the part of my life that I had to neglect.

Earlier this week I reached out to the Provider I had talked with and asked if he was still interested and he was.

With this post, a new try has begun to make a proper takeover this time.
Guess it's time to reveal the new Provider and I'm sure all, or most of you know of him.

@SGraf, welcome up on stage and take a bow.

I choose @SGraf among other interested Providers due to his experience in the hosting business and successful saves of other Providers.

Today marks the day when @SGraf gets access to WHMCS data and the work to inventory all nodes and current status.

As part of the agreement between us, the current number of nodes and locations will be intact.
A new client panel will be installed and ONLY customers who want to stay, will be migrated over.

I will let @SGraf present a crude time plan as I will let him take the lead and dictate the migration speed.

With this (short) post, I will open the comments for a quick AMA....... and I will do my best to answer every question.

Here in Sweden, it's almost bedtime, so I might be AFK and not answer any questions for some time.... until the kids sleep.

The following code and its documentation were generated using ChatGPT model (o1-preview). I had considered writing this code myself some time ago but hadn’t found the time to do so. Here is the code along with an overview written by ChatGPT. I would appreciate any feedback on how it can be further improved or if there are any mistakes.

Code available at:
https://pastebin.com/cdrxhUSU

nat_manager.py
  Quick Start Guide

nat_manager.py
is a Python script designed to manage NAT (Network Address Translation) and port forwarding rules for VMs and containers in a Proxmox environment. The script utilizes
iptables
to configure NAT rules and allows for easy addition, removal, listing, updating, exporting, and importing of port mappings.

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up the network, using the script, and provides examples for common operations.

Network Setup in Proxmox

To use
nat_manager.py
effectively, you need to set up a bridge network (
vmbr1
) on your Proxmox server. This bridge will use a private IP range and manage the NAT and port forwarding for your VMs and containers.

1. Configure the Bridge Network (
vmbr1
)

Edit the
/etc/network/interfaces
file to configure the bridge network interface
vmbr1
:

sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces

Add the following configuration:

auto vmbr1
iface vmbr1 inet static
    address 10.0.0.1/24
    bridge-ports none
    bridge-stp off
    bridge-fd 0

    post-up iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 10.0.0.0/24 -o <YOUR_PUBLIC_INTERFACE> -j MASQUERADE
    post-down iptables -t nat -D POSTROUTING -s 10.0.0.0/24 -o <YOUR_PUBLIC_INTERFACE> -j MASQUERADE

<YOUR_PUBLIC_INTERFACE>
: Replace this with your network interface that has a public IP (e.g.,
enp0s3
).

2. Enable IP Forwarding

To ensure IP forwarding is enabled permanently, add the following line to
/etc/sysctl.conf
:

net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1

Apply the changes:

sudo sysctl -p

3. Restart Networking Service

Restart the networking service to apply the changes:

sudo systemctl restart networking

4. Install Required Packages

To ensure
iptables
  rules persist across reboots, install
iptables-persistent
  and other required packages:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install iptables-persistent python3 python3-pip sqlite3 -y

iptables-persistent
: Allows
iptables
rules to be saved and restored on boot.

python3
  and
sqlite3
: Required for running the
nat_manager.py
  script.

Using
nat_manager.py

Run
nat_manager.py
using Python3. Below are the various usage instructions for managing NAT and port forwarding rules for your VMs and containers.

python3 nat_manager.py -h
usage: nat_manager.py [-h]
                      {add,remove,list,update,reserve,unreserve,list-reserved,export,import,backup,restore,rebuild-db}
                      ...

1. Add Port Mappings

To add NAT port forwarding rules for a VM or container with an internal IP address (e.g.,
10.0.0.5
):

sudo python3 nat_manager.py add <container_ip> --mode <automatic|manual> --num-ports <N>

Parameters:

<container_ip>
: Internal IP address of the VM/container (e.g.,
10.0.0.5
).

--mode
: Mode for adding ports,
automatic
  (default) or
manual
.

--num-ports <N>
: Number of ports to forward (default:
6
).

Examples:

Automatic Mode:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py add 10.0.0.5 --mode automatic --num-ports 4

This command automatically assigns 4 external ports (starting from
50000
) to forward traffic to standard internal ports (e.g.,
22
,
80
,
443
,
8080
) on
10.0.0.5
.

Manual Mode:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py add 10.0.0.5 --mode manual --external-ports 50000 50001 --internal-ports 22 80 --protocols tcp udp

This command manually assigns external ports
50000
  (TCP) and
50001
(UDP) to forward to internal ports
22
  (SSH) and
80
  (HTTP) on
10.0.0.5
.

2. Remove Port Mappings

To remove all port forwarding rules associated with a specific container IP:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py remove <container_ip>

Example:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py remove 10.0.0.5

This command removes all port mappings associated with the IP
10.0.0.5
.

3. List Current Port Mappings

To list all current port mappings or those for a specific container IP:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py list [container_ip]

Examples:

List All Mappings:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py list

Lists all port mappings currently configured on the Proxmox server.

List Mappings for a Specific Container:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py list 10.0.0.5

Lists the port mappings for the container with IP
10.0.0.5
.

4. Update Port Mappings

To update existing port mappings for a VM or container:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py update <container_ip>

Examples:

Interactive Mode:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py update 10.0.0.5

This command will prompt you to update the internal ports or protocols for each external port currently mapped to
10.0.0.5
. Leave input blank to keep the current mapping.

Non-Interactive Mode:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py update 10.0.0.5 --external-ports 50000 50001 --internal-ports 2222 8081 --protocols tcp udp

This command updates the external port
50000
  to forward to internal port
2222
  (TCP) and
50001
  to forward to
8081
  (UDP) on
10.0.0.5
.

5. Export and Import Port Mappings

You can export current port mappings to a JSON file for backup purposes or import them from a JSON file.

Export Port Mappings:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py export /path/to/export.json

This command exports the current port mappings to
export.json
.

Import Port Mappings:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py import /path/to/export.json

This command imports port mappings from
export.json
.

6. Backup and Restore Configuration

You can backup the current configuration of
iptables
and port mappings or restore from a backup.

Backup Current Configuration:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py backup

This creates a backup of the current
iptables
  rules and port mappings database.

Restore Configuration from Backup:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py restore <timestamp>

Replace
<timestamp>
with the desired backup timestamp (e.g.,
backup_20230917123045
).

7. Rebuild the Database from Existing
iptables
  Rules

If the SQLite database is lost or out of sync with
iptables
  rules, you can rebuild it:

sudo python3 nat_manager.py rebuild-db

This command scans existing
iptables
rules and reconstructs the database for consistency.

Important Notes

IP Forwarding: Ensure IP forwarding is enabled by adding
net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1
  to
/etc/sysctl.conf
  and running
sudo sysctl -p
.

Save
iptables
Rules: To ensure the rules persist after reboot, use
iptables-save > /etc/iptables/rules.v4
  and
iptables-restore < /etc/iptables/rules.v4
.

Check
iptables-persistent
: Ensure
iptables-persistent
is installed and enabled to manage rule persistence:

sudo apt-get install iptables-persistent -y
sudo netfilter-persistent save

Network Configuration for VM/Container in Proxmox

When creating a VM or container in Proxmox that will use NAT:

Assign an Internal IP Address:

Assign an IP within the
vmbr1
  subnet, such as
10.0.0.5
.

This IP will be used for internal communication and NAT port forwarding.

Connect to
vmbr1
  Network Bridge:

Ensure the VM/container network interface is attached to
vmbr1
to use the internal network managed by NAT.

In Proxmox, select
vmbr1
as the network bridge when creating or configuring the VM/container.

Configure Gateway (Optional):

Set the gateway to
10.0.0.1
  (the
vmbr1
address) to route all outbound traffic through the Proxmox host.

This setup allows VMs/containers to communicate internally using
10.0.0.x
IPs and be accessed externally via port forwarding rules defined by
nat_manager.py
.

Boringguard - Ansible Role for Wireguard install & setup

https://github.com/N-Storm/boringguard

Hey everyone! 👋

I wanted to share a piece of my private collection of custom ansible roles that I've created for configuring and managing various VPSs, lowends included. I've recently decided to make one of these roles, Boringguard, public to see if it might be useful to the community.

Features:

Compatibility: It works with deb/apt-based distros like Debian 11+ (might work with 9+, haven't tested), Ubuntu 20.04+, Armbian, and RPM-based RHEL8+ distros (CentOS, Rocky, Alma, Oracle, etc).

Boringtun Installation: This role can install Boringtun, a userspace Wireguard daemon implementation by CloudFlare, which doesn't require a kernel module. It's great for container-based VPSs (OpenVZ, LXC, Virtuozo, etc), especially if you have TUN/TAP capability. It even works on NAT VPSs with UDP port-forwarding.

Binary Packages Included (.deb and .rpm): Since there's no official repo for Boringguard and no distro packages available, I've built binaries from sources for various architectures (x86_64, aarch64, ARMv7). This includes builds with MUSL lib as well as Glibc, to better suit resource-constrained devices. Should work on a variety of small/embedded devices, like SBCs, ARM routers, etc. Tested on Hetzner CAX ARM64 plans and ARMv7 Orange Pi One SBC.
Don't trust my binaries? I'm absolutely with you here You can build and add your own. The packages to install are configurable in a yaml vars file. Let me know if you need a guide for building those packages. Just a ~couple of requests and I'll write recipe to automate building those packages I have there.

Configurations and QR Codes: Configure the server with as many peers as you want and generate client config files and QR-codes.

Idempotent with Persistent Config: The primary reason I created my own 'Wireguard installer' is probably its idempotency and persistent configuration. It's mostly inspired by the "Nyr wireguard-install script", but I found it lacking in the ability to restore VPN settings on VPS reinstall/migration/etc. (like almost every Wireguard install script), not to mention the absence of ARM support. This is where Ansible comes in as a more suitable tool for such tasks - you simply define your configuration with variables for each host (or even host group), tweak some settings or start with the defaults, and set up your VPN. Once generated, items like private keys and other settings will be stored on the host used for configuration (the "ansible host").
I don't want to configure clients from scratch every time I need to rebuild a VPS. Or manually fix configs on VPS migration, for example. Can be a serious hassle if you have many VPSs or clients. Managed configuration approach solves a few things at once here:

a) generates a populated VPN config file which you can edit. When you run the playbook again, the new settings will be applied;

b) ensures that if you reinstall/migrate/change your VPS, running the playbook again will install and restore the same settings as before (assuming the hostname remains the same). Peers can connect with the same keys/certs as before.

This might not be a huge deal, but it's incredibly useful for me. As a part of a much larger "VPS toolkit" I have, which I'm not planning to make fully public (it's tailored to my specific environment). However, if Boringguard is useful to others, I might consider migrating more features from my private collection.

Docs & Feedback:

I haven't finished the documentation yet (missing Quick Start, etc.). Feel free to ask here if you're interested, and I'll work on improving the docs if there's enough interest.

Cheers! 🚀

Assume you have a dedicated server with /64 IPv6, and your goal is to create some IPv6 NAT VMs. How do you do it? Below is a tutorial about how to install QEMU/KVM and create VMs on Debian via the command line.

0. Advance Notice

Special thanks to @Not_Oles !

This tutorial has been verified to work with Debian 11 on Hetzner's dedicated server.

All commands are executed as root.

In this tutorial the host's network configuration is:

Network Interface: eno1

IPv4 Address: 192.0.2.2/26

IPv4 Gateway: 192.0.2.1

IPv6 Address: 2001:db8:ace:babe::1/64

IPv6 Gateway: fe80::1

We want to create a private network
192.168.0.0/24
for VMs; we want to use
192.168.0.1
as the IPv4 gateway and
2001:db8:ace:babe::1
as the IPv6 gateway for VMs.

We want to create a VM whose IPv4 address is
192.168.0.2
and IPv6 address is
2001:db8:ace:babe:cafe::1/80
.

1. Enable IP Forwarding

Open
/etc/sysctl.conf
. Find
net.ipv4.ip_forward
; uncomment this line and set the value to
1
. Do the same for
net.ipv6.conf.all.forwarding
.

Save the file; then run
sysctl -p
to apply changes.

2. Install Required Packages

apt install qemu-system qemu-utils libvirt-clients libvirt-daemon-system virtinst bridge-utils

3. Modify the Network Configuration

3.1 Make a copy of the original
/etc/network/interfaces

cp -p /etc/network/interfaces /etc/network/interfaces.backup

3.2 Open
/etc/network/interfaces
and edit

Comment out eno1's IPv6 configuration, then add the following line:

iface eno1 inet6 manual

Continue to add the following lines to create an interface
br0
  for KVM networking:

auto br0
iface br0 inet static
    address 192.168.0.1/24
    bridge_ports none
    bridge_stp off
    bridge_fd 0
    post-up iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s '192.168.0.0/24' -o eno1 -j MASQUERADE
    post-down iptables -t nat -D POSTROUTING -s '192.168.0.0/24' -o eno1 -j MASQUERADE
iface br0 inet6 static
    address 2001:db8:ace:babe::1/64
up ip -6 route add default via fe80::1 dev eno1

bridge ports none
means br0 is not attached to any physical interface.
bridge_stp off
disables Spanning Tree Protocol; usually we don't need it in simple cases.
bridge_fd 0
sets the forwarding delay time to 0; 0 is good in simple cases. The
iptables
line allows LAN nodes with private IP addresses to communicate with external public networks. The
ip -6 route
line specifies the IPv6 gateway.

Save the file; then run
systemctl restart networking.service
to apply changes.

We want to create a VM whose name is TEST with 1GB memory, 1 core, and 10GB disk. TEST will be stored at /var/kvm/TEST.qcow2. The VNC port is 5901 and the VNC password is Hello1. We will use /var/iso/Debian.iso to install Debian on TEST.

virt-install --name TEST --ram 1024 --vcpus=1 --disk /var/kvm/TEST.qcow2,device=disk,bus=virtio,size=10,format=qcow2 --graphics vnc,listen=0.0.0.0,port=5901,password=Hello1 --network bridge=br0 --noautoconsole --cdrom /var/iso/Debian.iso --boot cdrom,hd

5. Configure Guest Networking

Because we haven't configured the DHCP service on the host, we have to manually set the VM network settings. If you are using a netinst image to install the OS, then you need to set the IP address to 192.168.0.2/24 and the gateway to 192.168.0.1 during the installation.

When I choose the VPS it asks me for a fully qualified domain name and some nameservers (defaults are ns1 and ns2). Where do I get these informations? I would like to get a free domain, even a subdomain would be fine (eg. test.example.com). I'm currently registered to no-ip. Can I buy this servers for a year using paypal and a prepaid card?

This is also sent out to all customers, the email takes longer to process.

As of today, it is no longer possible to order the 128MB package at mrvm.net.
Customers who already purchased the 128MB package will be honored as long as these are owned.
128MB packages are not transferable to other customers.

The decision to remove the 128MB packages is based on the fact that keeping all locations updated is taking too much time, the recent announcement from PayPal that they are increasing their transaction fees.

As an effect of this decision, the discount for buying multiple services at once is changed
FROM 20% on 4 NAT products or more
TO 30% on 3 NAT products or more
The discount is added automatically at checkout, no codes needed.

Currently, mrvm.net offers these locations

EU (5) (6)
Falkenstein - Germany
Sofia - Bulgaria
Sandefjord - Norway
Reims - France
Milan - Italy
Dronten - Netherlands

USA (8)
Kansas City - Missouri
Lenoir - North Carolina
Berkeley Spring - West Virginia
New York - New York
Seattle - Washington
Miami - Florida
Los Angeles - California
Atlanta - Georgia

APAC (5)
Sydney - Australia
Perth - Australia
Singapore - Singapore
Mumbai - India
Auckland - New Zealand

Any questions regarding these changes, I'm happy to answer.

Hi,

What is a NAT VPS?

Network Address Translation (NAT) is the process where a network device, usually a firewall, assigns a public address to a computer (or group of computers) inside a private network.
So a VPS that’s utilizing this kind of technology is shortly understand-able as a VPS with shared IPv4.
It comes with a dedicated IPv6 subnet.
In low end vps world, the main purpose of NATted VPS is also to make the price as low as possible.
Most popular OS choices like Ubuntu, Debian and CentOS can be installed from the control panel.

Shortly it’s just like any common VPS, but it comes with Shared IPv4, not dedicated.

All plans come with /112 IPv6 Subnet, NAT IPv4 with 20 usable ports + 1 SSH port, Domain Forwarding(host on IPv4 port 80/443)

What can you use this kind VPS? Here it is few examples of what you can do with it:

Host a full-fledged website (w any CMS like Wordpress, Ghost etc) on port 80/443

VPN - Most protocols including OpenVPN & Wireguard can be used.

Proxy (private, protected)

IRC client/server (IPv6)

VoiP apps like Teamspeak, Mumble etc.

Anything you want with native IPv6

A simple remote terminal with root access, testing scripts & other stuff.

A light usage remote desktop.

Distributed database, Web Scrapers etc.

Many more possibilities....may ask in this thread.
