Dynadot vs Regery?

Hi all,

I'm looking to register some .tw and .it domains. I may transfer an existing .it as well.

tld-list.com suggests Dynadot and Regery for both of them among the best prices. Trying to do some form of consolidation while not yet having an account at either of them, is there a clear choice in favour of one over the other?

I went through https://lowendspirit.com/discussion/5818/yall-know-some-good-domain-registars/ which holds both of them in good regard.

Dynadot is excellent and has been around forever.

  • Have used both. More extensively with Dynadot. Live chat with Dynadot is good. Nit had to contact Regery for anything yet.

  • How do they compare to Spaceship?

  • The verdict is out, it seems! Thanks all :-)

  • Can vouch that Regery is good. Used them for my .su domain which was basically impossible to renew with anyone else due to the war.

  • Can vouch for Dynadot.

I have been using Dynadot for more than a decade and i can confirm that during the past few years they have turned into shit.
Mainly i am pissed off by their wonky system which has problems with autorenewals.
So if you are prepared to lose your domain and then pay exorbant amounts for getting it back, then go ahead, Dynadot would be happy to have you as a customer.

Here is proof that i am not just bashing them with no reason:

  • I use Dynadot for my personal domains, and Regery at company where I work because ccTLDs are cheaper.

  • Nowadays, I almost don't use my "traditional" domain registrars anymore (Dynadot, Name, Namecheap...) unless I get a good deal on a domain with Namecheap.
I mostly use low-cost options like Saw, Regery, and Cosmotown simply because of the price. With one domain, it wouldn't matter, but with several of them, the savings are significant.

These budget domain registrars don't have control panels as polished as the ones I mentioned first. Some of them may be slow when support is needed (I'm looking at you, Cosmotown), but on the other hand, one doesn't need support from a domain registrar very often, as long as they can set up their own nameservers and generate Auth/EPP codes to transfer domains out within the control panel.
Dynadot may have some well-priced TLDs, especially for the first year of registration, but their renewal pricing mostly can't compete with Regery.

How much is the difference in price for renewals, between them?

And how do they compare for renewal pricing to Spaceship?

regery.com (almost) always has the cheapest price, always check tld-list.com first though

used do have domains across multiple registrars, but it all got too messy. moved everything to regery later as their pricing, even if not cheapest, is always in the lower end and fair

lacks extra features and services unlike other providers but does it‘s job totally fine: buying domains and set external nameserver

    $7?

    Ugh... what a question.

There are several hundred, if not thousands, of TLDs, with pricing constantly changing, so it doesn't make sense to try to answer that. Just check their price list, renewal price, and transfer price at the time of registration/renewal/transfer if you're really interested.

Renewing with Regery is generally cheaper than Namecheap, but if you need to check for a specific TLD, you will obviously check their price list for this specific domain extension to get the current pricing.

Spaceship and Regery are essentially the same price for renewals; but Spaceship has a much better interface.

Some tlds I use aren’t being offered at spaceship, but regery does.
The regery UI sucks ass indeed and I never it for domain queries, instead I use services for domain availability.

Somehow all tlds I had strayed across different registrars were all the cheapest at regery (back then before I transferred them all over to regery for easier management/payment)

That's debatable. For some reason, when I'm in their "launchpad" (dashboard), I always need to do extra searching to find my list of domains in their wannabe-modern, utterly shitty interface.

At some point, I may remember that I need to look at the "Apps" buttons at the bottom of the page, skip past all the "My account" apps buttons, and check the "Products and tools" domain apps buttons.
And no matter what you do or where you are, you need to return to the launchpad to look from the beginning to find the proper button for your domains.

Their interface resembles someone's phone with an unknown launcher with icons all over the place that you're seeing for the first time, where you need to check all the app icons in hope to find the right one.

I know, right? It feels like a half passed thought out UI where the designer was fired mid way or something.

But with thr decent low prices and good support overall I'll take the messed up ui

  • I will Choose Dynadot. It's reliable and offers more features (like free privacy protection) than Regery .
