Friendly greetings! 🌎🌍

Thanks to the generosity of @MikeA and the co-operation of @ReliableSite_Radic and the ReliableSite team, we here at LES have an opportunity to work and learn on a magnificent dedicated server until 8/15/2024. The new server is named Reliable. She is a cousin of wonderful Crunchy and probably also related to the servers at FreeVPS.org.

If you have a non-commercial, open source project that needs a very nice server, or part of a very nice server, until 8/15, please feel free to post in this thread, and we will see what we can do.

Specs

Hi! Thanks for your comment. I wish I could see your Telegram channel, but I use Signal instead of Telegram. Also, I imagine, for Reliable, it might be better to de-emphasize overtly political activities. I will take a look at your Github repos. Best wishes!

I hope everyone gets the servers they want!

Of course most companies don't want to relate themselves with politics closely, but I fail to see any politics in @gooblermaster 's reply. Do you mind teaching me your logic of relating the above things?

    Hi @bliss!

@gooblermaster's reply contains these words: "i maintain a few public proxies for my fellow iranians/chinese people to bypass internet cencorshops enforced by goverment."

I think most people might see direct and intense political activity in bypassing internet censorship enforced by government.

@bliss said: Of course most companies don't want to relate themselves with politics closely

It seems like you do understand!

The Terms of Service in the OP have been updated to cover political activity.

    Thank you!!

I hope everyone gets the servers they want!

Here is an example of an very advanced project which could be a good fit for Reliable: Announcing the Pre-Scheme Restoration

Another possibility for Reliable could be a student who is just beginning and really doesn't have a good environment in which to work.

I am considering posting about Reliable on Hacker News. Maybe there might be other places where I also could post.

I hope everyone gets the servers they want!

  • Congratulations to Reliablesite for finally adding a favicon to their website too.

It's highly likely that you never live in a totalitarian state or have little knowledge about that, but if you just look at the GFW-List, you will know most banned websites or service in Iran, China, or Myanmar among others are NOT political, like Wikipedia, BBC, Twitch, YouTube, Google, not to mention those being severely disturbed (which means network connection may timeout or be cut, while it's reachable via ping but the website can never be opened) like GitHub, Economist and ibkr. So it's a normal occasion when one spends hours and has tried tens of times in just cloning a GitHub repository only to get a timeout.

By the way, YouTube is not a single banned site, it's a group of that, which means DailyMotion, PeerTube, Xvideo are all banned. The same is true for BBC, since real, reliable information is taboo there.

Recently I've seen some posts asking for help that like "my friend is going to China, how to access YouTube or Gmail then", I guess most people going to China will be cyber-incommunicado because most the APPs in the smart phone stop working there. Do you think those posts are political and should be discussed elsewhere?

Most people in Iran, China just want computer and smart phones to be working, and it's about their study, work and life. Only a minor part is about politics.

Anyway, thanks for explaining and your great efforts to establish and maintain FreeVPS.org, which I really appreciate.

Hi again thanks to everyone for the support, but to clarify i've had no intentions of raising any sort of political discussion this is merely a hobby of mine and there are more than enough sources publishing iranian/chinese specific proxies for people to use so its not a necessity by any means
