I wouldn't download copyrighted material without permission (e.g. only after purchase). It might be difficult for those things no longer up for sale like legacy software. Yet I did always find a way to purchase it but I don't know how to react if I wouldn't. Maybe direct downloading.

  • Also streaming is very large portion of consumption. Torrents for gaming and adult stuff.

  • If I were to do such a thing, which of course I do not, then it'd be more than one of the above. Which of course it isn't.

I leech off @skorous and @Nekki my conscience is clear. I don't ask questions either.

  • I can not confirm nor deny such assumptions.

  • What is Real Debrid, how it works, where I can find sources?

Asking for a friend, of course.

I idle VPSs at close to unsustainable rents, does that count as theft?

My torrent-fu is not great enough to actually delete stuff from the seeders' storage while downloading, so I'd say that does not count as theft B)

IIRC it's a "premium link generator", basically you give it links from hosting sites or torrents and it gives you back direct links.

I've seen it mostly being used with Stremio and Torrentio to make streaming with torrents seamless and easier.

    Some practical methods include:

    • Steal classmate's textbook. Rip off the cover so they can't tell it's their textbook.
    • Borrow a book from the library and scan every page on the library's free scanner.
    • Become a library cat and read every book at night while feeding on brains.
    • Buy one movie ticket and watch two movies.
    • Pick up one movie ticket from the trash can and watch two movies.
    • Leave a walkie-talkie in the movie theater plugged in a corner and listen to a whole year of movies.
    • Bring a VCD player to the bookstore, watch a movie on the toilet, and put it back.
    • Take a VCD from the video section of a department store to the electronics section, watch it on 20 giant televisions, and put it back.
    • Take a TV from the electronics section of a department store to the video section, watch a movie, and put it back.
    • Check in a Hinton hotel with Yeti's credit card, go to the fitness room, watch a movie on the Peleton bike.
    • Hide in the garden of Nekki's house, watch her fap into a caged wolf.
    • Become a wolf, sell self in a cage to Nekki, watch her fap in front of you, and then come out of the cage and bite that thing off.

correct me if I'm wrong but i dont think there is any copyright theft if:

    • I don't have the actual file (as in download a copy into my device)
    • I don't distribute it (which also means i have to download the file and then share)

    I bench YABS 24/7/365 unless it's a leap year.

I wouldn't say so. Embedding a copyrighted image hosted somewhere else means you don't download it but still take advantage of the copyright protected material which is just as illegal as hosting it yourself. I've seen several websites including images with watermark directly from the vendors site (html src). imo this is just as much theft as downloading it (the watermark doesn't grant you permission for free use).

  • @webcraft said: which is just as illegal as hosting it yoursel

    Raised eyebrow. Illegal where?

Almost every country have some sort of laws to regulate infringements of intellectual property, but copyright law can vary greatly from country to country. Something what's illegal in your part of the world can be perfectly legal where I live and vice versa.

If it isn't illegal, do we still talk about copyright theft?

  • Think the only way to commit actual theft of copyrighted, is to find a patent/copyrighted work and refile it as your own with little to no changes.
