  • @VirMach there may have been a migration failure of ticket #387374.
Los Angeles to OKC migration for VPS was in progress on May 18th. Ticket and WHMCS screen for VPS both showed migration in progress. When I checked the next day the VPS no longer showed under migration, was stopped, and was still in Los Angeles. Nothing further has happened, ticket still shows 'in progress'. Figured enough time had gone by that I should mention it here as it is related to OKC.

That's just human error on my part (forgetting to hit send.) I noticed your special request on it after I began the migration and cancelled it. We're still technically in a beta long "beta" so until official launch everyone is just on the one node and as a result I couldn't fulfill your request.

There are other nodes that exist, just not finalized and placed in the pool yet as I wanted to avoid having to deal with node-specific issues during the beta period.

Thank you for the update. I have no problem waiting. I Just wanted to be a good beta tester and make sure you were aware.

    It's 4am I can't sleep.

It's like it's too noisy outside but I'm not really sure about that.

Did I start to hear voices in my head?

No! I talk to them (my head, not yours) all the time. That's not crazy at all! No white jackets are coming to carry me away! (Please don't tell ;-) I actually would prefer to have a song in there than some of those other voices.

Amazing how often 'soon' works for Virmach.

I think I can finally confidently say we'll do the sale this weekend soon. Alright guys, some updates for you. The customer dedicated servers have already been racked as of last Thursday. I had to do a lot of other unexpected "non-Oklahoma" related things over the last several days instead and did not want to rush everything just for a sale.

    General Timeline:

    • In approximately 2 days, I want to provision a few servers to previous customers as well as @Kris as part of the "beta" test for bare metal to make sure everything works with the module for that before we do the sale
    • Over the next few days, other VPS nodes for SolusVM that are already racked/set up will be made available and beta testers will be moved around/spread out on them, and some basic form of IPv6 will be added as well

The most possible scenario is: rain.
I am 99.69% sure that VirMach still didn't fix his window and it will have an effect.

This did have an effect but it wouldn't have made a difference in the end. I'm getting pretty good at sneaking in and out at the right times based on the weather radars.

    • I've found a mechanic. Tomorrow, I'm going to see if I can drop off and hopefully pick up my car to get the window finally fixed as we're continuing to have storms. Things are starting to get shipped in/arrive that I either need to sign for and/or make sure don't get rained on and/or properly organized in inventory so that's one other thing that may affect specific schedules and order of operation.

Parts/Inventory:

  • Heatsinks are arriving tomorrow. These are for the next 50 servers after the first 20-30.
  • Ryzen 3600's have arrived, some 3500 builds are going to get a CPU swap just so everything's tidy and makes sense, as right now almost all the servers are just 3500's even with higher memory amounts which I wanted to initially avoid.
  • I've also located all the 500GB SSDs, additional NVMe SSDs, additional CPUs so there's a chance we might also offer higher end Ryzen builds with 3900X or 5900X for bare metal.
  • Ryzen 3700X are likely arriving this week as well but near the end of the week, so it might get pushed into next Monday. I took so long to write this out that the 3700X has arrived as well.
  • There is a very high chance we might purchase 100x additional dual E5 servers. I'd want to move these fast so they would just be lower memory builds (lower for E5, as in 64GB as originally planned instead of 192GB-256GB) and a couple SATA SSDs. The good thing about these is that they're already built and come with the rails, currently waiting on datacenter to confirm timeline for additional cabinets.
  • We are still short on Ryzen server rails. With tariffs, the official rails still being out of stock, and everything generally being high cost for universal rails, I might have to end up picking up metalworking as a hobby. Okay just kidding, I've finally found an "okay" supplier.
  • Lots of RAM came in for future Ryzen nodes, as well as PCIe risers, M.2 heatsinks, etc.

Epyc Servers:

  • I'm leaning toward using most of these for VPS nodes, but if anyone is interested from the beta, we can offer a few of them at sale prices. I've finally ordered in some U.2 drives for them (for customer builds) and we already have about half of them with larger U.2 drives for VPS nodes.
  • Virtfuuuuuuuuuuuuuusion still needs to be set up, I'll likely try to wrap that up tomorrow, but we do have 8x Epyc nodes currently racked, with at least 4~ of them going on Virtfusion.

Network:

  • I'm wrapping things up with Cox communications to get that provisioned. It's some weird policies they have we've been working around/discussing that's been holding it up. Also a reminder, right now we also do have connectivity from Cogent but it's not being utilized. This may finally get added into the blend once we get Cox.
  • I need to finish some renumbering in another location for blocks we've been trying to finish phasing out, as those will be needed. Notifications will likely go out tomorrow and we want to give people something like 72 hours to 7 days notice, which means we might be short on IP addresses (more than we already were) and therefore might end up with some additional IPv6 only deals.
  • I need to pick back up on our SolusVM IPv6/NAT project that I never finished at some point in time, hopefully this week, but this might be something that gets pushed into next week instead.

What am I doing right now or trying to get done today?

  • Finishing configuring the server provisioning module and some testing
  • Connecting/setting up KVM dongles for Ryzen dedicated servers
  • Adding KVM switch and PDU to the provisioning module
  • Building and adding in a few more 3600/3700X servers now that those have arrived, and a couple Intel servers, some spec changes
  • Probably some final rework of the cable management/moving some servers around
  • Adding in two more network switches (might get pushed into Friday)
  • Three other unrelated to Oklahoma but important tasks that may take several hours and add another day delay
  • Getting the storage node added into SolusVM so I can finally move the one beta tester onto it

What did the Ryzen specs end up being?

  • These are as currently racked, but may yet again change (slight adjustments per above)
  • 16GB RAM, Ryzen 3500, 9240-4i HW RAID w/ 4x1TB HDD, 500GB NVMe
  • 32GB RAM, Ryzen 3500, 9240-4i HW RAID w/ 4x1TB SSD (might get changed to 3600)
  • 32GB RAM, Ryzen 2600, 9260-x HW RAID w/ 4x3TB HDD, 1TB SATA SSD (might get changed to 500GB SATA SSD)
  • 16GB RAM, Ryzen 5500, 1x 2TB NVMe (this one will be some kind of beta test discounted build for the brave)
  • Various customized builds for previous customers as discussed with them

What's being built next?

  • 16GB RAM, Ryzen 3600, 2TB NVMe, 2x3TB HDD (next small batch)
  • 32GB RAM, Ryzen 3700X, 4TB NVMe or 2x2TB NVMe, 1x6TB HDD or 2x3TB HDD
  • 64GB RAM, Ryzen 5700X/3900X, undetermined disks

I'm going to be more mindful with the disks we add to these servers until I'm finished getting all of them racked, and then if there's a large quantity of whatever left over, then it'll be free upgrades but please don't count on that happening. This is a shift away from just maxing out the slots on every server, mainly because of (a) the 5500's not being able to do anything other than NVMe SSDs right now and hogging them up, (b) the E5's needing lots of SATA SSDs.

It's very possible that all the above information may end up being wrong and useless. I wanted to avoid making this post for those reasons, but at the same time I don't want people to think I'm just going quiet because things aren't going well.
