What do you use to block ads?
Just curious.
I've self hosted Adguard DNS and used it trought Tailscale, then I switched to Apple Private Relay + Adguard DNS (Paid) + uBlock Origin Lite for Safari. I'm using same setup for MacBook and iPhone.
Before that I've used Wipr 2, but it was too agressive and removed some elements like "scroll back up" button and cookie banners (as I want to see them).

Opnsense router for entire home uses Ubound DNS + Steven block list
On my desktop and mobile, firefox + ublock origin.
The rest of the people relies on ubound dns to block the ads. They are happy with the "best effort" method since some ads still goes through for some android apps that uses it's own DNS...
Adguard, but it's too aggressive for my wife. She wants to be able to click on search ads 🤷🏻♂️

Switch her to NextDNS and you can enable search ads.

ublock origin in firefox. i technically use quad9 dns but i dunno how much that really does
Pihole on a home server, plus nextdns.io as the secondary dns, with wireguard as my mobile vpn to home so I have adblocking on mobile. Primo!

Same here... She keeps complaining that her google isn't working. She wont switch away from chrome so the DNS adblocker is the only ad blocker. So I configured her laptop to use google's public DNS. Then she complain too many ads on websites... WTF!
Anyway, finally she agreed to "scroll down" to click on the first "search result" instead of the top 3 ads...
Firefox + uBlock. I don't use any filtering at DNS level because it messes up some bank websites.
On my phone I use Adguard DNS and sometimes adblocking dns servers in system/browser settings.
On Windows, I use AdGuard Extension and in-browser adblock dns sometimes>

Running a bunch of stuff because I discovered the various solutions seem to catch different stuff:
Browser - ublock, disconnect, privacy badger
Unbound (on opnsense firewall) - easylist, privacy list
Adguard - default adguard list
Notably the last thing in that chain is still filtering >10% of traffic. o_O
Unbound is somewhat redundant (same list as ublock) - mostly in there for when I take out adguard for tinkering & for non-browser devices.
At some point I need to figure out how to put certificates onto a reverse proxy for authentication. Want to point my phone at this home stack too but without running VPN or open resolver

apt mooInteresting discussion. Firefox, Pi-hole, AdGuard? What about Chromium, the ungoogled one and OISD. uBlock is definitely essential.
There is also technitium dns. Haven't tried it but a lot of the more technical ppl seem to swear by it.
Adguard > Pihole though - built in DoH support.
I just use Brave on some of my devices.
Or else, it's FF + uBlock.

Still using ublock origin, haven't found anything better.
I'm using DNSCrypt with a Steven Black block list. Besides that, using ublock origin and for those very, very annoying YouTube adverts, I use the very well done YouTube adblocker (Firefox).
