If you get a small plan from @MichaelCee , I'm sure he can also lend you a hand
Basically just get a server with apache/nginx, php, mysql, create a database and extract the vanilla forum zip into your public_html directory (or /var/www/html if running raw).
Almost the same way you would setup your wordpress website, just that instead of wordpress, use vanilla forum zip file.
If you want information, feign ignorance reply with the wrong answer. Internet people will correct you ASAP!
It’s OK if you disagree with me. I can’t force you to be right!

I started by trying to set up a LAMP stack and Vanilla on a Hetzner VPS. My attempts bogged down in composer, which kept showing multiple errors. I have extensive notes.
If any of you guys want to hold my hand through a current Vanilla install from source on Debian sid with Apache and MariaDB and PHP, that would be great!

@somik Thanks for your kind suggestion! Docker is great! Nevertheless, before going with Docker, I want to try Debian sid and possibly NetBSD-current as well.

From what i see in the docker repo, the installation for the github version is complicated, but can still be replicated on local. So good luck with that

Ya, i was summarizing @Ympker reply. Turns out vanilla forum is depricated from the official site. Only the github docker deployment is still available...

Probably either switch to the github fork or fix it themselves as issues pop up.

Probably any shared hosting with Softaculous should be able to install it with one click.

Back in March I had a go at installing Vanilla from https://github.com/vanilla/vanilla.
I started by trying to set up a LAMP stack and Vanilla on a Hetzner VPS. My attempts bogged down in composer, which kept showing multiple errors. I have extensive notes.

@MichaelCee Are you up for it?
@nwnuyhs How is your install going?
Thanks!
I hope everyone gets the servers they want!

We're using Flarum for Hosting Forums
First idea was Vanilla, but it's dead and Discourse is too much hassle.

I never understood why someone would intentionally choose Vanilla other than it's what OGF uses. It's crap.
My pronouns are like/subscribe.
What software would you choose?
