    Why?

Did you try any of the others?

Onlyoffice - because it is FOSS (without being crappy LOL) and, unlike Libreoffice, doesn't break MS Office documment layout (99% of the folks in Serbia are using MS Office so that's what I deal with). It also loads faster than Libreoffice on my computers.

  • Honestly, I'm still using MS Office (365, copilot, whatever tf branding it has these days). I really, really want to switch, but every time I've tried in the past, it literally only takes a few documents for the formatting not to properly openable for someone using MS apps (which I will always have colleagues using). Hell, even the online-only versions of Microsoft's apps don't even properly maintain formatting with the desktop versions. It's been a couple years since I last tried, so maybe it's gotten better, but it's not for lack of wanting to change.

Which alternative Office software have you tried, in the past, to replace your Microsoft Office with?

  • Wps office. I bought a pro license for 9.9 USD per year, I installed in all of my devices without any limited.

  • Does groff count as office software?

  • Libre works well enough at home. Anything I need to do professionally usually goes up through Google Sheets/Docs first, or just exported directly as PDF.

    My pronouns are like/subscribe.

Have tried OpenOffice (back when that was the main goto) and more recently LibreOffice. Happy to take suggestions for a more up to date alternative to try!

There is also some new-ish EU like initiative on office stuff but can't quite tell what exactly it is

That alone is enough reason to avoid it.

    Zoho Office ( online )
    Onlyoffice ( offline )
Proton Docs ( when I am bored )

My most work is in markdown or csv, output formatted to pdf anyways, so doesn't quite matter. But have subscription for zoho workspace for ~ 6 years now

  • I have o365 as well as some licenses for Office 2024, I also have Onlyoffice running in Nextcloud and probably some Libreoffice installed somewhere as well.
Basically, I don't care since the level of work I do in office documents could probably be handled by every software there is that claims some kind of office compatibility. The major reason I even have office software at all is that people keep sending me docs, excels and powerpoints, so as long as something opens when I doubleclick them and it can display those files I do not care what it is. My use of office software peaks at maybe once every 3 years create an excel sheet with ip addresses, but that's about it and that could just as well has been a simple .txt.

Why no love for xml, json, html, or csv?

I use all of them, but not for storing lists of ip's.

  • SoftMaker Office, because their spreadsheet is the only I've used with both sensible dark mode (where the grid is bright on dark background), and also working locale settings for Norwegian, both formatting numbers, name of weekdays, months and so on.
And I haven't found something from MS Excel that I miss.
Otherwise I don't use the other apps much, for writing I much prefer iA Writer, BBEdit and Obsidian for Markdown, and for RTF/Word, Nisus Writer is awesome. IMO ...
