Free VPS for students
hostiko
Hosting Provider
Hi,
We’re offering free VPS for students and a discounted plan if you need fewer restrictions.
The free plan is meant for building things, testing ideas, and experimenting. It’s not for commercial use, running public VPNs or proxies, or reselling access.
To get access: sign up with your .edu email, send a document that proves you’re currently a student, then complete a KYC check (ID + face verification). Once that’s done, you’re in.
If you’re using the free plan, you need to log into the billing panel at least once every 30 days. If you don’t, your server may be stopped or deleted. You can request a new one later.
One server per person. You can choose either the free plan or the discounted one.

So just email, personal document, student ID card and face verification only? I mean I do see your point, but still, sounds more like a data harvest...
EDIT:
removed country name from message

Must be Mr. Vlydymymyr Zynlynsky order
Ah it says so in his signature:
And what it has to do with data harvest? If you want to continue to play dumb, I see no reason in our further discussion on this topic. Accusing someone like that is not fine.

I am not accusing anyone of anything. I am sharing my opinion that the requirements of sharing too many personal details like email, personal document, student ID card and face makes it sound like a data harvest. If you do not agree with this, it's fine. Read my signature if in doubt.
Not trusting a particular business is fine. Bringing nationality in? Sounds like an insult at best.

Sorry about that.
I now understand why you took offense and it is totally justified. I am clearly in the wrong here.
As I said, I put the country name because of their signature, but I should not have done so. I have edited the original message to strike out the country name.
Good offer, however the KYC check may be a bit too intrusive.
As a current student, I'm used to verifying via SheerID, which has been proven to do student status verification quite well. It works really well as they have worked extensively with educational institutions and can automatically verify student status after OAuth authorisation. OP can look into it
Other than that, I think someone here should think twice before they comment. Bringing nationality to this discussion reflects poorly on you and others from your country, even if they don't think the same way. This is why I do not bother interacting with said user, I've simply learnt to ignore his comments - they're often worthless and add nothing to the discussion. Keep the "sinkie pawn sinkie" mentality out of a very much international forum please, thanks.
