Atlassian's revenue: $1.79 billion last quarter
Atlassian's move: fire the engineer who built their infrastructure

his move: post a 38-minute breakdown of every system he built, free for anyone to copy

what he revealed:

Envoy proxy instead of enterprise load balancers
sidecar architecture for auth, logging, rate limits
DynamoDB + SQS for async provisioning
Packer + SaltStack for automated VM deployments at scale

Atlassian charges per employee across 350,000 customers

this guy just handed you the enterprise playbook for free

This is interesting, but not too many people here would be in the need of that much of an infrastructure.

Posted as being interesting due to being a large infrastructure, and still using free, open source components.

  • Thanks for sharing. What I actually found interesting is that I think this was his "résumé" which is more likely to be shared than a PDF. Not sure if this was really his true intent but he pretty much does does a self-interview in a way. Starts with an architectural breakdown of their AWS-backed stack then sells himself about his ability to resolve conflicts, simplify complex problems for colleagues, and then some mentoring experience.

The fact that people pay for Trello is hilarious to me.

Elon Musk is nothing but a grifter, who married non-white women and has mixed-race children, advocated for H-1B visas for Indians and much more. His platform bans people for posting negative opinions on jews.
He is also a capitalist, and literally the richest person on earth.

Calling him or his platform "Nazi" is delusional. By calling everyone a Nazi you don't harm the movement, you normalize it.

  • This is wild. Atlassian firing the literal architect of their core infrastructure while pulling in $1.79B tells you everything you need to know about modern corporate logic.

On the bright side, that stack breakdown is an absolute masterclass. Using Envoy for edge routing and a Sidecar pattern for telemetry/auth is industry standard for a reason, but seeing how they glued it together with SaltStack and DynamoDB for async provisioning at that scale is beautiful. One man's revenge is the community's free enterprise textbook.
