I have to say it's even more confusing now (it will not stop me from top up, as it's most interesting vps concept i've seen ever).

I do understand "alpha" state of the project. I do understand bandwith can vary, and it's widely depends. But having those numbers back to back is even more confusing than it was before imo.

I can't see those images because Imgur is blocked and I am on my phone.

I will have a look tomorrow when I am on the battle station again, not sure how knowing the speed Vs not knowing the speed is more confusing though, maybe it will make sense when I can see your pics

Are you in London by any chance? We should have a drink!

I make every possible effort to stay at least 100 miles away from London at all times. Currently managing around 300 miles, I start to suffer from depression when that number even gets close to 150.

😅 Well let me know if you ever reduce that to 0 and I'll buy you a drink! Would be great to get to know the Anthony Smith!

Make sure to bring up IPv6. He likes that.

I might have to do a karl pilkington AI chat about IPv6 haha

Right, so I’ve been looking into this IPv6 malarkey, and honestly, it’s just typical, innit? They can’t just leave stuff alone.

You had the old internet addresses, right? IPv4. Four little numbers. Like a house number. 192 dot something dot something dot whatever. Simple. Easy to remember. You could write it on a bit of paper, stick it on a fridge, job done. Even a monkey could remember four numbers.

But no, that wasn't good enough for the tech heads. They went, "Oh, we're running out of numbers." Are we? Or did you just give them all away to stuff that doesn't need them? My mate's got a smart toaster. A toaster! Why does a toaster need an address? It’s just burning bread. It doesn't need an Internet postcode. It doesn't need to be online. You don't get home from work and go, "Oh, I must ping the crumpets." It's bloody mental.

So their big solution is IPv6. Have you seen this? It’s not even numbers anymore, it’s got letters innit. Since when did letters get involved in counting? It’s like a barcode threw up. You’ve got colons everywhere, it just goes on and on like a decimal point having a nervous breakdown. It looks like the serial number on the back of a fridge that you’re never meant to read.

And they go, "Oh, well there's enough of these for every grain of sand on Earth." Why would a grain of sand need an internet address? What's it gonna do, email the sea? "Dear Ocean, I'm getting wet, please advise." It's daft.

If you've run out of the short numbers, just take the old ones back off the websites nobody visits. All those GeoCities pages from 1998 about somebody's cat. Sweep 'em up, reuse 'em. It's like recycling. But they don't want to do the tidy-up, do they? They just want to invent a new system that no one can remember.

If I have to read out an address to someone down the phone, I’ll be there till Thursday. "F colon A colon zero zero zero..." It's doing my head in. I’m not using it. I’ll just stick to me four numbers until the internet breaks, and then I'll go read a book.

I'm not exactly sure why Ant knows that I'm familiar with the round-headed buffoon (as a Yank, it's pretty rare), but I absolutely loved his diary sections from the XFM Gervais show.
