(Quote) Their network page is just outdated. Luxembourg is Cogent-only with an HE.net IPv6 tunnel for full v6 routes. It's meh, but depending on what you want to do with the box, it can be sufficient. For webhosting it's more than enough, for a Ple…

(Quote) It’s single homed behind Cogent. So it’s very meh.

(Quote) You could've just tried the looking glass before ordering? I see this a lot with China Mobile by the way, my ISP peers with them in Amsterdam. Looking at the RTT it's going through the US as well.

(Quote) Actually, you’re not and judging by your name I’d think you’d know better. The network infrastructure in The Netherlands including the datacenters are among the best of the world. However, Virtono uses M247 so it’s clear where the problems …

(Quote) .nl (it’s controlled by a nonprofit so that’s why it’s not too expensive). A .de is very affordable too. Fun fact: .nl is also the oldest ccTLD.

I’m happy that ‘my’ ccTLD is very cheap, less than 4 EUR for reg/renewal. And it’s trusted by all mail providers as well. I wouldn’t use any of those novel domains for anything that’s remotely important.

(Quote) That’s why I explain how it really works in Germany. There is nothing to be afraid of here. Plenty of reasons not to like Netcup, however.

(Quote) This is not exactly true. After two weeks they’ll send you a reminder. A month later they’ll sent you another reminder. If by then you stilll haven’t paid, they’ll hire a debt collector. So it’s not like that if you don’t pay, you’re in leg…

(Quote) Well, to be fair I didn't go public with my experience for 4 months because it is a free service. My post was just to warn people that the site has to be 'active' but that there's no real definition for that. It might be good to make that po…

(Quote) Fixed internet is notoriously slow in the center of Amsterdam, because the swampy soil makes digging very difficult. Best that this coffee shop you're imagining is going to get is a 1G/50M coax connection.

I think Lee isn't really active here. In theory, this is a nice free service. But it just gave me a headache after signing up. I was planning to use the hosting service for a weblog that isn't really active as in a lot of new posts, but gets some v…

Guys this is a 4 month old thread and I don’t really need all these notifications :#

(Quote) 1x France, Italy or Austria I'm trying to get the logic here. These locations are all pretty close to eachother, especially for low-bandwith purposes. I'd also say that Germany should be in the second bunch and France in the first (Western …

(Quote) I do, but that's the room without internet so... I had an Ozzie colleague who moved back to Australia after some years in The Netherlands. I asked him what he was going to miss the most (except from us of course) and he answered: 'affordabl…

(Quote) Problem is that it boils down to the interconnect between a carrier of your ISP and a carrier of Hivelocity. The most drastic improvement would come from a manual change at your ISP. They could (for insance) route it through NTT. But access …

(Quote) What it looks like to me is that STO is a faulty rDNS, that router seems to be in Frankfurt. However, what’s really happening here is that @bdl ’s ISP seems to buy transit at RETN, they peer with LLNW so they scream ‘we have the fastest rou…

(Quote) I second this.

(Quote) It's one thing to go bankrupt, but something else to just disappear. Also, it seems to be part of a company that existed for much longer. They've responded to my PayPal case too, but I only think this is a 'mail not delivered' message as th…

(Quote) It looks good on benchmarks, I test some things on my VMs that prosper with fast disks. But I won’t notice the difference between 70K and 160K IOPS.

(Quote) True. But I’ve got a decent collection of Nexusbytes VM’s and this has by far the highest disk speeds.
