Pre-Black-Friday VPS Public, Rack Rate, Pre-Discount Price Comparison Check

Not_OlesNot_Oles Hosting ProviderContent Writer

Hello!

Anticipating the imminent arrival of Black Friday, I checked on rack rate sticker prices for a US VPS. I looked at the websites of several providers, hunting for the least expensive two core or two vcore offering on each provider's site. Specs and prices that I found, with reference links, are below.

Just looking at cores / vcores certainly is not comparing apples to apples since RAM, disk, transfer, and other specifications also vary. Nevertheless, awesome Hetzner had the lowest monthly 2 core / vcore price at $4.65. Akami's 2 core / vcore monthly price was $24.00. The most expensive monthly 2 core / vcore price I saw was Upcloud, at $27.81. ExtraVM's likely high performance, low drama, and trouble free 2 core configuration was $10. The crunchy 2 vcore crunch crunch was only $6.00, just $1.35 more than Hetzner.

One thing that impressed me was how fast VPS prices increased with increased resource allocation. On my favorite Hetzner Server Auction cheap dedis, I got 8 dedicated cores, 64 GB ECC DDR4 RAM, 2 x 512 GB NVMe, and unlimited 1 Gbps for €26.70. For comparison, the 8 shared core CX51 VPS on Hetzner Cloud is €32.90 with significantly less RAM, disk space, and transfer. The 8 dedicated core CCX33 on Hetzner Cloud is €48.49, and still has significantly less RAM, disk space, and transfer than the lovely Hetzner auction server.

My take away is that it's great to use a one or two core VPS for low resource jobs, but it's also great to move to a cheap Hetzner Auction dedi rather than increasing allocation with VPS providers.

Apologies to our many other fine LES Providers whose sites I did not check as yet. If any Provider wishes, please feel free to add your public, rack rate, sticker, pre-discount prices from your website together with the link to your sticker prices. I imagine it also might be okay to add a discount code, to say whether the discount is recurring, and to include a purchase link. But I will leave it up to @bikegremlin and @FrankZ whether having a pre-Black-Friday public, rack rate sticker price comparison thread is okay.

Best pre-BF wishes from @Not_Oles! 🌎🌍

Knowing all the prices might prevent this: :)

But who could check all the prices, of every provider?

I'm checking the regular price for every offer that gets sent in for the LES mega thread to show the savings on the BF offer compared to normal pricing. So the BF offers in the mega thread will show something along the lines of "a savings of $xx.xx".

For regular BF offer threads I nominate @Not_Oles to tell us :sunglasses:
Because this thread is a good start in that direction.

I am currently traveling in mostly remote areas until sometime in April 2024. Consequently DM's sent to me will go unanswered during this time.

It works when there's only small amount of deals... some providers insist that's their best price, and I still have to present it which some people will blame me for not picking good deals :(

You can only post the deals that the providers give you, so nobody should blame you, ever.
