Alexhost, Hosteroid and FOSSVPS collaboration

Hosting ProviderOG

Thanks to Alexhost and Hosteroid
Because of their very generous donations, FOSSVPS is able to grow and support the Open Source Community.
The response from the community has been extremely positive and we even have a FOSSVPS user donating a dedicated server coming online soon. I ( @msatt ) just added a second of my own servers (us2) in Los Angeles, so we have the US East and West coast covered.
We still have space available (read on)
FOSSVPS has no income and is a team of 6 volunteers. Apart from a free VPS there are no other rewards. This is driven by the community and is for the community.
If you missed our NPM update - clients that use our NAT service can use NPM (reverse proxy), which directs any domain name, port 80/442 traffic to your internal VPS IP address. So for web applications, it is no longer necessary to have a static IPv4.
Our version of NPM has been released as Open Source by @nstorm and can be of benefit to many hosting providers.
Absolutely FREE, no catches, no credits, no price bumps.
Server locations and end dates are always on our website at https://fossvps.org and currently are :-
- Moldova Chisinau courtesy of Alexhost till 31th January 2027
- US Buffalo Courtesy of MSATT till 22nd November 2026
- US Los Angeles Courtesy of MSATT till 21st of December 2026
- Romania Bucharest courtesy of Hosteroid till 6th March 2026

Hello! I applied for FOSSVPS and got an inventory slot (username on the form: Artem Xmelkov). My project: hosting Minecraft and CS:GO servers for non-profit learning and DevOps practice. I have a GitHub profile with my work. I'm ready to start and follow the rules. Thanks for your consideration!
You might want to take note of the following in the OP.
@Xmelkov Sorry you do not qualify for the reasons already mentioned by @FrankZ (thanks).

Hello! I would like to apply for a free VPS for my open-source project.
Project: Minecraft Server Auto-Setup Tool — automated deployment system for Paper servers on Linux VPS.
GitHub: https://github.com/XmelkovDev/Minecraft-server-setup/tree/main
This is a non-commercial open-source project for learning server administration and DevOps. I have scripts for installation, backups, restore, plugin updates, and status checks.
Thanks for your consideration!
In my opinion, the requirements are too strict.
apt mooWithout giving an example, your comment is useless. The rules are there because of abuse. If I could automatically detect who is going to be an abuser, everyone could have a free VPS (that develops Open Source).
@Xmelkov Please read the rules.

@msatt there are other similar (free) offers where a single thread has been active for years, while you keep opening new ones, always offering the same service...
I'd ask myself a couple of questions...

apt moo@mizzik Well thanks for that - I am someone trying to help others.
I am not paid and genuine users get a free 2c 4G 64G vps. All I ask for is thanks and all you are doing is being negative. So look at yourself first before being so unhelpful.
As far as the number of posts - there are not a lot of FREE posters, so yes FOSSVPS does appear in that list - this post goes back to January and was resurrected !!!!
So grow up and stop stirring.

@mizzik could you please stop dropping negative crap in hosting offers and especially free hosting offers without context or example or justification.
Opinions are fine, if you actually give them.

It's what provider do. That's just how it works. No provider re-use the stale thread, because they'd get asked the same question (if it's not updated) of OOS deals. Better start fresh.
FOSSVPS offers free vps out of providers donation. So, they have responsibility to uphold their purpose. Doing against it == fraud.
Let me ask you this question. How do you feel if government spend the tax you paid on useless stuff or embezzled it?
Feel free to read the timeline on OGF. Rules are there because of reasons
I just said what I think
apt mooAnd it is not the first time you have 'said what you think'. Is there something you have against FOSSVPS ?
Looking at your comments on LES they appear to be nothing or insulting.

If you think a rule is broken, report the thread. Dont waste time bumping the thread.
If you want to help, you are welcome to provide free services like @msatt does. Competition is better. So just get a server and make up what ever rules you want and offer free services. If your services are better thæn you might even run FOSSVPS out of business
It's good to speak what you thought. However, you should expect people speaking their mind too.
From previous conversations, you think the restrictions are unreasonable or deterred applicants. That's why we present these facts: good faith is insufficient. So, you must process these information, whether or not your previously held belief resonates with the reality.
If you still disagree, then you should speak your mind
@mizzik Did you abuse it?
