New LES Forum Rules - Active as of 11th June 2026
Jump to rules section...
- Don't be a dick
- LES is white hat, no illegal content or links to illegal content
- LES is eternal, don't post it if you don't mean it, you accept that you are here of your own free will and can leave at any time but the content you post here will always be part of LowEndSpirit.
- Multiple accounts for the same person or legal entity are not allowed without prior approval by LES staff.
- Smoking guns are not required, admin/mod decisions are to be respected (reasonable questioning of decisions is fine, we dont have hours to spend on every decision)
- Negative "reviews" without proof will be placed in the Rants section, which is de-indexed and will do no damage outside of this community.
- Being a general Admin/mod time vacuum = ban.
- LES is a buyer-beware market; it is not possible to pre-filter every offer or host.
- Do not stalk anyone or any service provider; repeatedly adding the same comments or negative experience will be considered vendetta-type behaviour.
- Do not dox people in ANY sense of the word.
- Posting a product or service for sale thread requires a [provider tag] https://lowendspirit.com/discussion/26/rules-rules-rules-rules-rules-info-updated-july-15th-2023/p1?new=1#Provider "provider tag") will get you banned. Exceptions: Domain Sales, Service Transfers, and Free Offers. Other exceptions may be requested by sending a PM/DM to a moderator or administrator.
- If you find yourself in a room of 100 strangers the chances of you not getting along with 1 of them are quite high, now amplify that and make 'the room' an internet forum and make the 100 people 1000's of people the odds of disagreement are much higher, people are different, no one agrees with everyone 100% of the time, consider that when posting, sometimes it really is not worth it.
- Even though we are from different parts of the world, the English language is what brings us together. To make sure that we understand each other, we use English when posting.
- When new hosts and service providers are requesting a tag please keep the discussions on topic. This area will be more heavily moderated than others to keep the information clear and on point.
How to get a Hosting Provider or Services Provider tag:
- Open a thread on the forum with the subject "TAG Request - (some info/name/business etc)"
- Let the community know who you are with an introduction, who or what you represent, what you want to sell and some business background.
- If available and possible, please include the following information: Company Name, Website, Billing portal link, link to public incorporation information (official GOV/State sites only) and anything else you feel is relevant.
- The community as a whole is then welcome to give their overall opinions, ask any reasonable questions and provide feedback and concerns. If it is reasonably well-received, then a moderator or administrator will apply your tag.
- LES reserves the right to revoke a provider tag when it feels that it is in the best interest of the community.
Rules for posting offers:
The world is a different place today in 2026 than it was when this forum started, and even more different to when the $7 meme started. Setting arbitrary limits really helps no one. People will buy what they buy, and skip what they are not interested in. As of today 11th June 2026 there are no longer any price limits on offers, products or services. for a trial period of 6 months. (Subject to change based on actual results and data)
We have sub-forums for offers now:
- VPS <-- Virtual Servers Only
- Dedicated servers <-- Dedicated Servers Only
- Shared hosting <-- Shared hosting only
- Services and Other <-- Any Hosting-related services and anything that is hosting-related but does not fit elsewhere
- Free Offers and Stuff <-- Anything with a none monitary cost.
- LES Exclusive Offers <-- Deals you want to post on LES first or exclusively
- Must See Deals <-- Deals found elsewhere that can be posted by the community via cross-posting or links.
You may post in any or all of these categories once per 7 days, meaning that you can post both a VPS offer, and a Shared Hosting offer, and a Dedicated server offer in the same week.
- Any special offer terms must be fair, non-predatory, none preditory, and clearly stated in the title or body of the offer. Offers judged by LES staff to be misleading will be removed and may result in your TAG being removed.
- Failure to follow the rules may result in your Hosting provider tag being removed
- Please do not bump your own offer posts repeatedly unless you have something of genuine significance to add or are directly responding to a comment made within the last 24 hours.
- Providers: Don't encourage spam, i.e. require customers to post a comment in order to get benefits ("double bandwidth" and similar stuff).
- Providers are welcome to have their own mega thread to provide general updates and general discussion. You are also welcome to post any new offers in here if you wish; we just ask that you apply common sense with these so they do not get spammy and duplicate offers posted in the offers section within the same week.
- The LES Exclusive offers section is now simply for offers you only want logged-in LES members to see. We only ask that if you use this, LES is the first place you post the offer. When the karma/trust system is in place, you will get extra karma for posting in here.
- You can post in here as often as you want. (Apply common sense)
- Offers must be for free stuff only and posted in the "Free Offers and Stuff" category, Free hosting or non-hosting related, free as in no monetary value.
- Anyone can post free offers.
- 7 days between Free Offer posts.
- Trial offers (Test our service free for X amount of time) are allowed as long as there is no requirement for payment information in advance and a clear policy on how personal data gathered is used.
- Domain sales are fine but please use the Domain Sales Category it is logged-in user access only i.e. not indexed by google.
- Due diligence is the responsibility of the seller and the buyer; LES staff will not get involved extensively with any disagreements or issues post-sale.
- Sale terms, requirements and purchase pricing or starting bids are to be made clear.
- Domain sales threads should include all relevant details including but not limited to, the domain name, current domain expiration date, the starting bid, currency type, payment methods accepted, and auction end date/time, including time zone.
- You cannot set a reserve price; if you want a minimum amount, this should be the starting bid.
- If a seller has a Buy It Now (BIN) price, this can remain active throughout bidding and anyone bidding the BIN wins the auction automatically.
- An auction bid is not retractable. Be sure you want the domain before you bid.
- Failure to follow through with the purchase by the winning bidder, or seller, of a Domain Sale auction will result in permanent barring from future domain auctions.
- Auctions, once started, cannot be terminated early.
- Failure to abide by Domain Sales rules will result in a permanent barring from future domain auctions.
- Transfer threads are allowed in the general section by anyone without limitation.
- Transfers are buy at your own risk. LES will not play a mediating or facilitating role during the process.
- Due diligence is a must on both sides, which includes verification that service transfers are allowed by the provider and completed in accordance with the provider's guidelines for transfer.
- No more than 2 lines for general users.
- No more than 3 lines for Hosting Providers & Service Providers.
- Feel free to be creative but never deceptive.
- Affiliate links are fine if prefixed as affiliate links. (aff)
- No Images
- Abuse it and lose it (ZERO TOLERANCE)
- If using affiliate links make it clear where they lead e.g. My "Vultr link"
- Affiliate links or any links that have the intent of injecting/stuffing cookies are not allowed.
- As previously stated, this is a buyer-beware forum; some efforts will be made to prevent people from falling victim to obvious scams; however, this forum is not a nanny state; you must apply common sense.
- Do not buy yearly deals from a company that has not even been in business for a year.
- If someone without a hosting provider or services provider tag wants you to PM them for an offer or PM's you directly with a proposition that involves you parting with money, you should do a significant amount of research before paying a penny, a large percentage of these types of offers are likely to at best, not be what they seem and, at worst, an outright scam.
- Anything that is considered to be damaging to the community or the good reputation of the forum (relatively speaking) will be acted upon.

The rules are an updated version of the original rules https://lowendspirit.com/discussion/26/rules-rules-rules-rules-rules-info-updated-march-13th-2025/p1 from 2019. Times have changed, and the rules have been updated. The original rules were written for a time that is no longer relevant. The new rules are designed to work with the upcoming planned changes and be less controlling and more community self-moderation driven.
While the reasons for some rules are perhaps not obvious today, there is a plan ( https://lowendspirit.com/discussion/10844/hello-again-les-things-are-probably-going-to-change-a-bit-here-are-my-ideas-i-want-your-input/p1 ) and each change fits in with that plan, even if that change has not yet been made.
If anyone has any concerns with anything please feel free to send me a PM or an email admin@ this domain name dot com.
You can change your theme between Night and Day under your profile/edit profile to work best for your eyes/device, bugs exist, please report them in the bug reports thread.

Comments
I am sure not everyone agrees with the new rules, my hope is that it puts a framework in place for the long term that allows the community to be much more self-modderating, new tools and software updates will come as soon as possible but not instantly, in the mean time I want to see what happens when we 'open things up' a bit.

Read though the diffs. Only major change I see is the no price limit trial and free trials being ok in free stuffs. Seems reasonable and well justified.
Yeah that's pretty much it, removed a few of the rules that are just common sense anyway, which I was probably in a defensive mood when I wrote, and they never got changed, and updated a few things like domain sales to be less restrictive and overall everything is more "take responcibility for yourself" which I think most people do anyway.
Another thing that is a bigger change is that if someone wants to sell here, they need to ask publicly; mods/admins won't be the first barrier to entry any more, the community will get their own chance to have their say in advance.
And the help desk is gone. (going)

Trying to get to the bottom of the @FrankZ @VirMach issue, huh?
About time. It was getting obnoxious.
