Welcome to FOSSVPS and Goodbye to NodeSeek

Hosting ProviderOG

Hi - It has been a while since our last update and there have been some changes due to abuse issues from NodeSeek clients.
- 29th of May VPS's belonging to NodeSeek clients will be terminated with no records kept. Emails have been sent and forum posts made.
- Nodeseek is no longer an accepted forum for potential new clients.
- Clients with good non spammy reputations are only accepted from LET or LES.
- Registration via a VPN is blocked.
- Throw away email addresses are blocked.
- Registering from Russia, China or North Korea is blocked.
- Abuse of any type (service, verbal etc) will result in VPS termination.
There is a common misconception that there has to be a catch when signing up for a free VPS. Well as far as I am concerned there is not. We ask for your Name, email address and GIT / Web url. This information is only used for direct service type communication and verification. All we ask in return is that you thank and support us and our donors.
FOSSVPS will NEVER pass your data to any other organisation other than any legal requirement.
I thought I would share some of the communication I have had with a client (keeping it anonymous).

Hi I want to make you aware that your VMID XXX on XXX has continuous dual CPU usage of 35%+ for over 5 days.
Please understand this free service is for Open Source development and while usage can burst, sustained is not reasonable.
What you are doing can affect others, so your usage has been forcibly reduced to 10% in the hypervisor.
Please rectify your usage and inform me of your actions and I can then release the CPU restraints allowing for normal VM speeds.

Ok

That was sent on April 1st !!!! Also no apology. That is unreasonable behaviour. You abused FOSSVPS.

I'm AFK,m cause have a job on RL,m that's why i apologize. What should i do?
I decided that this LET user is not capable of using a VPS or developing Open Source Software. So bye bye.
Being 'strict' with a free resource is necessary - it is not in my nature to do this but I must protect FOSSVPS and our generous donors - ( @Alexhost, @Hosteroid, @st-hosting and Jetnode ).
Because of the NodeSeek termination we have plenty of resources available for new honest clients.
For those new to the forum, FOSSVPS provide a free 2vcpu, 4GB RAM, 64GB disk with ipv6 and NAT ipv4.
To qualify you must
- Be an Open Source developer (Using Open Source does not qualify),
- Be an active member of LET or LES and have
- Quality (not spammy) posts
- Thanks for your posts
- Been a member for at least 3 months
Come along and join us - genuine developers are really welcome.
Best wishes
Mike

NodeSeek VPS clients have had their VMs stopped as per the announcement and emails.
If you are affected by this, I can restore your VPS if you are a respected member of this forum or alternatively a respected member can vouch for you (send PM). Respected means long standing, non spammy with thanks.
If there is no response, your VPS and all data will be destroyed on 5th of June 2026

I’m currently applying to use a machine on the DE Frankfurt (de11) node. Can you provide a virtual machine running Ubuntu 26? My project, https://github.com/oneclickvirt/oneclickvirt, is currently experiencing some issues with LXD compatibility, so I plan to test it on several different operating systems.
PS: The virtual machines I requested earlier have probably expired by now.
PPS: I hope KVM nested virtualization is supported; I need to test containers and virtual machines.

@spiritlhl At the moment - I have not received a request but will be happy to process when you apply.
Currently only 24.04 is available.
I have been doing a lot of work recently integrating 'convoy panel' into FOSSVPS build system and when that is complete I will be adding more templates. I can always add an iso if you wish and you could use convoy as a beta tester.
Yes nested virtualization is standard.

Thanks, I’ve received your email and am looking forward to hearing back from you. If Convoy supports providing a token to control API instances, I might be able to integrate it into my automated testing actions to resolve the current issue where nodes do not support nested virtualization, preventing me from testing KVM virtual machines during automated testing.

@spiritlhl From what I can tell the token is only available for admin level control - docs here.
