The Hosting Industry Speculation Thread
Thought I would start a thread where hosting companies & users can speculate based on their knowledge of the market & intuition
What I can see is that in near future things are going to be very difficult particularly for those hosting companies who cater to budget market
AMD to get more share of the server market as Intel has really f****d itself really badly with all those vulnerabilities
If you are just starting out as a hosting provider then stay far away from WHMCS unless you manage to bag an owned license as a price increase is expected within next 6 to 18 months which could make it more difficult for you to sustain in this highly competitive market. Good alternatives are HostBill if you got enough cash at hand other otherwise starting out with Blesta right now would be a good choice for which you can get an owned license for cheap or can even get it for free as internal license with many hosting companies
If you are a vps provider then after the release of Solus.io aka SolusVM v2 you are either going to have to increase pricing or you'll have to switch to alternatives like Proxmox, Virtualizor or VMmanager
In the next few years we are also going to see more & more people switching to DirectAdmin or InterWorx from cPanel
Recommend: SmallWeb|BuyVM|Linode|RamNode
Comments
I'd stay clear of Interworx as they're owned by a host, not a development firm. Main concern is they will likely focus on what they want more than what the market is after. I could be wrong but I've never trusted such situations.
Anyone thinking Virtualizor won't increase their rates is kidding themselves. If suddenly the entire VPS market uproots and moves from Solus to them they won't have the staff to deal with the support influx. Lets be honest here, most of the VPS hosts out there are run by people that can barely open putty, nevermind maintain their nodes.
I could see one of the big cloud vendors being bought, namely Digitalocean. IBM is my thinking.
Francisco
Fuck you, I can open putty.
No idea what to do with it once open though.
Once you open putty, type in lowendtalk.com, put in root and its password.
Once in, rm -f

You don't understand though, Jon has bought LET/LEB from Deluxe, it's going to be awesome.
Oh, I very much don't doubt that.
CHANGES ARE COMING! After all.

Will eventually happen. I guess, the wait right now is proper vendor support.
As for the rest, unless you are as talented as Fran/Joe or got the fund to build your own panels, we are all at the mercy of the vendors and 1 price hike away from getting fucked.

There's FOSS panels out there that might or might not suffice for LEB/LES style hosting. I played with VestaCP a little and the worst thing about it was a huge CPU-intensive crypto key generation process at installation time, and I think that is fixed now.
I don't understand what is so great about WHMCS. I've worked at a couple of places that did their own panels for both users and billing, and it wasn't that big a deal, in part because the panels only had to serve one site rather than a big range of them. But this stuff isn't rocket scientology.
Because its only just now he has absolute control unlike the last 6 or so years... oh wait!

OMG, you are such a shit-stirrer, leave him alone.
Although I will say here what I said over there. He is up to something. Changes are coming and he is asking the 'community' for their ideas so he can make it look like whatever he is planning was the result of 'community' feedback.
WTF! Putty? No need for that shit when not using Windoze.

^ Wouldn't know - only boot 'doze in extreme circumstances eg. camera firmware upgrades.
BTW, new Ryzen is sweet my man, now fully operational and the old HDoc VPS will likely be decommissioned tomorrow.

Heh when I got my laptop, I only needed to use Windows to disable secure boot so I could nuke it to install Linux. Windows will never run on my machines.. never I tells ya! I do have an older laptop with Windows 7 installed for those extremely rare "really really need Windows" moments..
