Now that my FFME003 is back up and running, how do I pick between it and the temporary/secondary server I created? In my case, I'd prefer to keep the temporary/secondary server as it's closer. I'm not in a hurry--just curious if I'd missed a step along the way.

I don't think anyone knows yet. So you didn't miss anything that I'm aware of.
Will probably be explained SOON™
it having been about a week since Virmach's last post, the question I've really started to ask myself is if he has taken a job somewhere else, and if there is anyone running Virmach's day to day operations. I can't really blame him if that's the case, it's hard to live off of $0.25 VPSes, but an acknowledgement of what's going on and possibly sending out whatever backups he has to customers would be nice.

Wasn't he in Germany and Amsterdam in like the last two weeks?

He was? Well that could be a good explanation of where he's been. That shows how much I pay attention to things.

Don't trust me as I don't generally pay attention to European servers. @Jab would be the man. I know there was a huge migration thing though...
Trying to connect to cPanel via the IP address and port leads me to a 503 "server is too busy to handle the request" error from CPSRVD. I don't know what triggers that error, but is this something a simple reboot could fix? Maybe something got stuck and is using CPU like crazy.
We cannot load the controls for your service at this time.
This could either mean:
A) It took too long to load.
B) The server controls have been automatically disabled due to an anomoly.
C) The server could be offline, in which case we have already been notified.

VM is running fine, but can't make changes due to the following message that I've received for months:
We have temporarily paused controls for this service as we are performing maintenance on the server. Please check back later.
This usually means we are aware of a problem and working to resolve it, or have purposefully temporarily removed controls to prevent potential issues with your service while we work on it. Your service may still be online and functioning normally, but if it is not, then check the network status page for any updates."
Finally opened a ticket (#467020) 10 days ago regarding this. No response. Is this provider just on auto-pilot now? A real shame as I've been a customer for years with no real problems.

Well, to be fair, just based on how long tickets remain unanswered Virmach doesn't seem to offer support on their website either...
UptimeRobot indicates that my $8.88/year VPS in Miami has been up for 1250 days.
It's one of my best dealz and has been stable for so long.
