Maintenance window - OpenVZ to LXC migration
As OpenVZ appears to be dead and there is no end in sight for the openvz 9 release we’re moving to LXC starting with the UK nodes. Starting at 6AM UTC on September 1st we will be starting with the UK1 node with an estimated maintenance window of 4 hours ending 10AM UTC.
The UK2 node will follow starting at 10AM UTC and ending 2PM UTC.
Other locations maintenance will follow and an announcement will be made after the successful migration of the UK nodes.
No data loss is expected although as always please complete any essential backups prior to this date.
Disruption is expected from 10am UTC to 11pm UTC on the 1st September with the strong likelihood of service degradation - unfortunately this is not a simple migration.
If you are willing to assist it would be appreciated if you could delete your UK instances 24 hours prior and recreate after September 2nd where they will automatically be created on LXC - this is not necessary but it will save us some time and would be greatly appreciated.
We have some new offers coming soon but the focus at this point is getting away from OVZ.
On a side note we have a single dedicated server available shortly due to a cancellation, if this doesn’t sell I’ll set it up as another node but it’s offered here first.

IIRC OpenVZ missed a number of deadlines in their release schedules thru the past 10 years. The product won't continue to exist forever but this delay might just be routine.
Slight off-topic:
Is there any "roadmap" or something like that for OpenVZ? Maybe blog or a news feed?
I haven't seen any news about them for quite a while, but hope they'll stay afloat, as I have a couple of true low-end machines, for which OpenVZ is the only feasible option probably due to the corresponding amount of RAM.

LXC?
I moved from OVZ to LXC several years ago because the then-stable OVZ kernel was obsolete. No much work was needed for the switch.
Is LXC ready ?
Does LXC mean we'll have a real WireGuard kernel module?

First node is done yes, this is going to take a few months to fully roll out. I expect it will be completed by the start of 2025.
Not immediately but probably at some point.
I deleted an instance in UK on 08/30 and recreated now and says openvz, maybe created in UK2 and this is not on LXC ?
is it possible to make permanent a change in hostname ?
UK1 is currently locked so only instances currently existing on this node will be LXC. New creations will continue on UK2 until we’re confident that no issues have been introduced.
