Virmach is an active provider since June 2014 - that's more than 10 years in business. Congratulations @Virmach and keep it going while improving!

    10 Years Party didn't happen :/

What kind of party? There is a recession. Prices are already extremely low.

  • I've got a free NVMe2G-for-life as @VirMach lost his bet.
The server is a PBS and I would hate to lose it.

How much storage to be PBS?

  • Should I renew my upcoming bills?

  • @Fritz said:
Should I renew my upcoming bills?

It depends. Is it idling? If "yes", then it is not a priority.

The priority bills are your energy and your internet and your mobile; because you use these every day.

An idling service is more of a fancy, something you enjoy. If such enjoyment is not a priority and not usable for production, then don't renew.

So far I decided to renew Virmach because I donate some bandwidth to Tor and I respect this provider for lasting 10 years. I don't consider Virmach stable enough for production though, but maybe he might wake up one day and decide to improve on that with automated monitoring and avoid support tickets which have extremely low priority anyway.

    Yes

    and then transfer to me.

So far they are just an idling but solid services.
I will need to consider my priority then. ;)

Then if you love them that much to keep them, simply donate bandwidth to Tor (relay) or some other project, until you think of something useful. If not, don't renew or transfer (but waiting for support might create more overhead because we all know how support of @VirMach is).

  • Anyone else excited to see if there will be new locations this year?

  • @VirMach said:
Free Services: we're going to be doing a cleanup soon and I thought I'd reply here to gather any feedback on how it should be done since a lot of the people that would be affected would be here.

I'm building a little system to keep better track of free services, and this will be the initial notice and data collection stage. We basically want people to clarify if they're still even using/want their free services, if they're actually supposed to have it, and kind of setting a graceful timeline for everyone for people that don't reply, and what happens after the grace period, whether it be power-down, suspension, and termination or switching to full price (in some cases where it was supposed to be temporarily free) and allowing the customer to decide. As for moving forward, how we'll keep track of them being used or unused, how we'll handle that, as well as clarifications on account transfers, etc.

No, we're not ending free services, but sadly your "free until event occurs that already occurred 2 years ago" are finally going away.

Black Friday System is getting a last round of bugfixes and changes and then going into public beta, which will be posted soon™ with whatever we can work in. There's a bug where quantities aren't adjusted properly, another that doesn't properly list some plans as SOLD OUT on the frontend. And two features I'm trying to add is location being better marked after creation as well as hiding OS options on checkout, allowing purchasing as quarterly and biennial on top of annually, and potentially adding back some iffy features I disabled until reworking them (these last few might make it into the beta test halfway through.) One of these features is a price adjuster during the plan being active and it didn't have enough checks and/or notifications in place to make sure it doesn't roll over while someone is checking out or clearly labeled timer on change.

Tokyo Changes are being considered. I'll stay vague on this. I could explain it all in great detail but I'm not interested in what that entails in the past. Just for the sake of transparency, I'm letting you know. If this bothers you, don't renew. I'm trying to get it in a position where we can actually see it as a viable location to keep and part of that being that can finally feel comfortable finishing deploying all the additional servers I set up there in January. If these changes don't work out, we will begin seriously considering getting rid of the Tokyo location, so again if that possibility bothers you, don't renew. We'll try to be more careful on any further plans sold here beforehand based on what we've learned so new purchasers don't have to worry about any further changes in the future or the location disappearing. I probably won't be discussing any of these as people come here to complain in clusters. My answers would all likely be "okay, we won't do that but we have to get rid of Tokyo then, and move or prorate refund everyone anyway, sorry." Some of these changes may involve upcoming maintenance windows.

Hello, since the JP machine room is now on the IIJ line, why not change the outbound leg from NTT to IIJ? This way you can get a better network experience without paying too much cost。
