@Jab said: also pages 2+ are fun - botting went wrong
I was cleaning those up at some point in time then got busy. It's actually pretty smart for the guy to make it look as if we're lazily giving ourselves 5 star reviews or something.
Virbot giving 4 and 5 star review could be the next iteration ? It will be more fun if they are encrypted reviews
I feel like we need to just create our own review system. This one barely functions, but the guy that did the "bot" reviews actually manually went in, creating accounts, and manually posted them, across like 100+ unique IP addresses.
Looks like a lot of other people just signing up for multiple accounts to leave weird reviews, going to try cleaning this up a bit. I guess I could do some queries and try to make sure someone actually has a service, no duplicate reviews, multi-account, etc, and put in some safeguards so this page is actually useful instead of a weird... whatever it is right now.
There's this other problem I've personally had with it in the past where while I don't mind negative or positive reviews, but it has no actual weighing system and no good way to see actual reviews that explain the general experience first. So it's just whoever decided to write something weird. Maybe filter them by some basic requirements like 1) the name has to not be gibberish, and (2) has to have at least like more than 1 sentence but also not copy/pasting the same thing over and over just to take up more space. I don't know, (3) be a review.
I guess the best way I can say it is... this isn't a valid review in any sense. And there's plenty of this going on.
My only guess is people just saw a submission box and using it as if it's a ticket?
AMSD026 - NoVNC has been down for a couple weeks. Could you take a look?
Failed to connect to the server (code: 1011 reason: failed to connect to downstream server
Error loading VNC. Please make sure the VPS is powered on.
Then try:
1. Using the "Reset" button to remove any mounted ISO and reboot.
2. Check the network status page for any posted issues.
3. See if your service is still accessible via SSH or RDP.
Number one solution for this, usually, is the customer disabled their VNC and forgot. Can you double check this, and if that's not the case, then open a ticket?
Interesting.
Didn't know disabling vnc is possible... not sure where to check. Will dig some more.
Thanks!
Okay I finally fixed the reviews page. It goes something like this but not perfect, close enough.
Each page shows an equal proportion of star rating, based on total number of 5 stars, 4 stars, 3 stars, 2 stars, 1 stars
Reviews now show from voted most helpful first and prioritized for word count (not too high, not too low)
It tries to prioritize most recent reviews as well, so it should be a good mix, so new reviews have a chance to get votes
It tries to de-prioritize reviews that have no words and just star rating or close to almost no words, but eventually it will run out of the higher quality ones for specific star ratings and will have to put them in to maintain the proportions per page.
They're pretty much randomized order, I had to actually do some extra work to reshuffle them because it was putting the 1 stars on the page further down and I didn't want it to look like we were trying to hide them, the shuffling's better now.
Then I've also moderated some reviews based on the following criteria:
If I noticed someone left multiple reviews, like logging into all their accounts to copy/paste same thing, one remains.
If they're using reviews as if it's a ticket to get support (example: "who can tell me how to resent my account password") regardless of star rating. That example was a 3 star, but there's plenty of 1 and 5 star ones that basically aren't reviews.
Any reviews that are blatant lies, if they actually have some review value they'll be kept and it'll receive a response for clarification, but if it's only a blatant lie and no review value, it'll get removed. Example would be just saying "scam." Other reviews that are subjective would stay, so an example of one that's fine is "no support at all"
Vile language. To some degree it's fine, but if HALF the 4 word review is just an f bomb or describing how they're going to fornicate with my mother, then that's not a review and not appropriate. If there's actual review material, then it's fine, but I might redact the foul language later maybe.
Reviews that are left before they even receive service unless it adds some information about the purchasing process. So something like saying our antifraud system sucks is fine or order approval taking a long time, but not "I have paid for two servers, when will it be opened" (also see above on it basically being used as a ticket, and that one was a 5 star, still removed.)
Unrelated to our services (someone was talking about his taxes, another person just said he charged back.)
After clearing them out, I checked and the average rating actually went down and not up, but about 30 of these removed. I only did the most recent several pages, so it's possible there's older ones we might leave alone or process later. Also removed the few leftovers from the guy spamming 5 star reviews.
I haven't decided what to do about reviews that have no words at all, this might have been from an older system so we might just keep them and it's fine if it gets deprioritized.
To-do: fix the formatting (apostrophes and quotations don't get converted properly.)

works for me.
Hmm. I'm getting "took too long to respond" timeouts (as accessed from Texas).
@VirMach Same issue again today. Have tried to use control panel a few times (separated by hours). Always get time out. No network settings changes on my side. Something seems off with this system's control panel. I do not recall struggling with timeouts before. Either it worked, or I got a message that said to contact support.
The reason I'm wanting to use the control panel is because of an unanswered ticket related to accessing the host and AI response telling me to check some file on the filesystem.

Very much so. Thank you for addressing the issues!

@VirMach Please sync netboot.xyz on node CHIZ035 - I'm not getting anywhere with it, even when rebooting to an alternative http://boot.netboot.xyz/ipxe/netboot.xyz.kpxe
It keeps on trying to auto-configure the network.
My previous workaround to Elevate C7 to Alma8 caused other issues, so an Almalinux 8 minimal ISO would be the best option.
It wisnae me! A big boy done it and ran away.

@cybertech Thanks that's the other gem that I was looking for. I tried ehab's one plus previous from skorous, to no avail. I have another few VPS to build so can try the grub method at some point. (I'm sure that I've used it in the past with various providers.)
