Why?
For the reason, you bring up later on in your post.
With this in mind I consider maybe the community should be the one to decide, because it is the one who benefits from all this. This is just my opinion, justified by a context where LET (mentioned by Ant in Rules) was corrupted and drove Ant to create LES, as LET became a "family project" of ColoCrossing, which sold it to another guy from that family who introduced "bilohbucks".
LET was not a democracy, it was a one-"man" show. That so-called "man" loved to take advantage of people who did almost anything for the forum. As you say, altruism towards the community.
When that "man" decided, on his own, that it no longer was fun, he sold it and ran away with the money, not telling anyone.
Leaving the rest of the staff without directions or guidance.
A small group that can not discuss topics and agree on the outcome will create tension within the group and eventually, it will be divided and break up.
As far as I am concerned I see involvement, but not work, because there is no payment for work. From what I see the moderators are putting their time on the line in the service of a community. So the principal target and scope is the community, not themselves, nor their effort. They help because they love what they do and do what they do so that others may be happy. This in my opinion is better defined as altruism, not work.
I understand your view of some internal leadership, but I also hope you get my point.
I think I get your point and I somewhat agree with you when it comes down to altruism and that all staff members do this, not for fame or wealth, only with the good of the community in mind and perhaps that shiny badge that shows who is a staff member.;)
And I think you agree with me, but ask these questions to know my intentions behind them.
As I worked closely with Ant for many years, at the beginning of LES history, I know what he walked away from and what he didn't want LES to turn into.
One way we try to keep his legacy alive was by removing the donation button when there were enough funds to pay the hosting costs for many years to come.

Will there be a public vote on the finalists?, or this is purely internal decisions of LES board?
I eat the candidates that don't make it. So take this seriously peoples 😆
Also who ever is picked I must trust them enough to reveal my secret identity
Why would anyone want to know the secret inner desires of a yeti? This is not to say I do not understand some women wanting that long big "thing" of yours, but I fail to understand why anyone else would approach the territory of your cave.

Which point in the history of LET are you talking about?
My guess is that you mean Chief/Joel, not LEA, who gave it away to Chief, believing he would do the right thing - but he secretly sold it in a short time.
By the way, at the beginning, CC didn't do much at LET. They completely fucked up LEB under mpkossen, but LET was still LET (with the damage done solely by the knowledge that it was secretly sold to the company, tho) until in 2015 jbilbo decided it's time to move forward...
Even if it's not a democracy, my vote goes to @emgh or @Not_Oles @Not_Oles seems to be the kindest, most down to earth kind of guy you could imagine, I think he would do a great job of making people feel welcomed here.
Me and @emgh does not always agree on everything, but I have a lot of respect for him and he seems like the kind of guy who can take a stand and argue for it if necessary. I get the feeling he would be able to go into heated discussions without making it personal or losing his head, which is a must from a moderator.

That is correct. During the Chief/Joel era I wrote articles for LEB and tried to moderate LET. Both @KuJoe and I were new at those positions, and when Chief/Joel decided to sell and vanish, we were left in the dark without guidance.

They completely fucked @mpkossen, told him to do things a certain way, and then throw him under the bus publically.
This was also the time when LET (in my eyes) started the downward spiral with decisions that clicks are more important than keeping the spirit that the forum was created for.
Will there be a public vote on the finalists?, or this is purely internal decisions of LES board?
purely internal decisions.
with everyone having veto rights on each suggested member, we might end up with no-one in this voting round.
New mods will be presented in a new thread if/when that happens.
So it is not democracy? This sounds a bit like Romania, where on the world stage they annulled elections of presidency without any proof.
I would never want to be a moderator anywhere if I would have to bribe or lick someone's boot to not get veto or block someone else with veto.
I have a love for democracy, true democracy, untainted by corruption or personal greed.
In my opinion the solution here seems quite simple: create some thread where people can propose candidates, then put that list into a poll where members can vote.
It's pretty simple, if bringing on a new staff member would cause 2 others to leave, that is not something we want to happen.
The vote (among staff members) has to be unanimous.
All staff must be able to work with each other.
There is no greed and no corruption among the staff members.
We don't accept bribes for this position, except feeding the Yeti, but then again, it's in the job description.
Simply put:
We'll pick the one with the biggest pigeon!

Even in a democracy, you don't vote for everything that the government needs to decide on.
I am for moderators picking their peers as they see fit.

Me and @emgh does not always agree on everything, but I have a lot of respect for him and he seems like the kind of guy who can take a stand and argue for it if necessary. I get the feeling he would be able to go into heated discussions without making it personal or losing his head, which is a must from a moderator.
Thank you! Honestly not sure if I’ve got the time, depends on what kind of effort is required, but either way, it really does mean a lot.
Edit: And about the respect part, same goes to you. I enjoy discussing with you.

Our discussions have been at the OGF. Just realized that emgh may not be so active here, never even reflected on what forum I was actually on.
