It was somewhere roughly about 150 USD

I had to rent an annual registered address and a phone number + the 50 GBP UK registration fee, and then there's additional costs such as a physical copy of the registration and such.

My UK colleague helped me with this so it was easier.

As a business registered in India, cost of meeting regulations/compliances will exceed the revenues . Speaking time +effort + monetary cost .

One can also bring in “ feel good factor “ such as trustworthiness etc, to fill up the plate. But the financial complexity and compliance is the main course

And just like that, it’s been "sold" again. That was quick. Aspire Hosting is now called HostCheaply. The new company didn’t even have any terms and conditions. I'm not sure I believe what was stated in the migration email. In my case, the price increase is 1,300% – that’s just insane and completely disproportionate. Let’s see how things develop.

Why weren’t customers informed about the sale in advance? From a data protection perspective, this is also concerning and may even constitute a violation.

Under UK data protection law – specifically the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 – personal data (such as customer information) cannot simply be shared or “sold” during a business sale without restrictions.

The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) makes this very clear in its official Data Sharing Code of Practice:

“When you share or disclose personal data during a business sale or merger, you must ensure that individuals are informed about this, either before or after the fact – depending on the context. Failing to inform individuals can breach the transparency principle under Article 5(1)(a) UK GDPR.”

A company must inform its customers if their data is being transferred to another company – even in the context of a sale. It must also have a valid legal basis under Article 6 UK GDPR (such as a legitimate interest, which must be carefully balanced).

Transparency and data protection obligations still apply during mergers or acquisitions – and a silent sale of customer data is not allowed.

I also experienced a nightmare and incurred a penalty when I transferred customer data from my UK company to my German company.

@MichaelCee Here are the emails. Communication was really inadequate. At least the new owner has changed the prices back to what they were before. Personally, I think removing the tag is a bit too radical, but I'm not a moderator.

Well, if there's new owners then @Greenboi is no longer a provider, right? The new owners should join and request a tag instead.

It also looks like there's been a major data leak and there's now two companies trading with the original Aspire Hosting clientele and services.

Now this is being taken by surprise...

We had an web hosting offer in Australia with Aspire Hosting, the only one we had with them, and fortunately without any paying customers and without many customers at this particular location, and it seems that the server has been... entirely wiped out. We recieved the unexpected migration e-mail from Aspire Hosting to HostCheaply literally 7 hours ago and... that's all. Nothing else.

There were no e-mails with any new or current credentials; trying to login to their area (at HostCheaply) with the original password doesn't work; attempting to reset the password to the registered e-mail (at HostCheaply) sends just about 0 (zero) e-mails, which means that our account is essentially not on their system. The server's Australian IP, 45.124.53.190, is still working, as is our account at DA, but there is basically zero data for the existing customer accounts registered.

Someone (the old or the new owner) messed up big time. Very unprofessional and unexpected, to say the least.

I am sending an e-mail to those affected and I'll have to apologize for this nonsense.

EDIT 04h13: we do have access to the account after all, but... at the previous Aspire Hosting client area. So, the servers are currently at one company, our registration is at another one... and data isn't at any of the two.

Regarding the information on the sale, as per the context shared in the post above

We sent out emails yesterday regarding the sale; however, it seems like WHMCS failed to send the mail to a few of our clientele.

So I'm sharing it here for your information and for anyone who did not receive it yesterday.

Dear Clients,

We’re reaching out to provide full clarity regarding the recent changes at Aspire Hosting, including the sale of services and ownership transition.

As of this notice, both Tanay Rudra and Areeb have stepped down from ownership of Aspire Hosting. The company is now under the ownership of sDutta, who will be taking over all operations related to the brand going forward.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of how the services are now managed:

🔄 Ownership & Service Transition

Web Hosting clients have been migrated to a separate company named HostCheaply, managed independently by Areeb. This brand has no affiliation with Aspire Hosting moving forward.

All other services — VPS Hosting, Minecraft Hosting, and Discord Bot Hosting — have been fully transferred to sDutta, who will manage these under the Aspire Hosting brand.

Tanay (myself) will remain temporarily involved only in a transitional capacity to assist with a smooth handover. I am no longer a legal owner or representative of Aspire Hosting.

In short, Aspire Hosting was run by two owners, myself and Areeb. Areeb retained the web hosting clients, while the rest of the VPS, Minecraft, and Discord Bot Hosting Sectors were sold and transferred to "sDutta". This individual can be met and conversed with on our discord platform or through our tickets portal, and he will soon register on LES to have the tag transferred to him.

Regarding the price increase in web hosting plans, this applies only to new orders. I spoke with Areeb previously, and he stated that any existing orders can keep their prices, however this must be communicated with Areeb via hostcheaply, simply notify him and he will revise the price and change it back to your old renewal.

On a side note, I spoke with Areeb about the clause "Aspire Hosting has shutdown," and he told me that he worded it poorly, so in reality, Aspire Hosting did not close; it was sold, and Areeb retained and migrated the web hosting clients from Aspire Hosting to another platform.

And none of the client's data was touched in case we needed to pull any logs related to the service; if any client is unhappy with this, they can open a ticket with Aspire Hosting and request an account deletion under GDPR law.

Now regarding the provider tag,

I spoke with the moderator above (MichaelCee), and in accordance with the recommended actions/steps to be taken regarding the provider tag, I will also be requesting the new owners to create an account to further represent Aspire Hosting in the future on this forum, which they will do soon, so Michael can proceed with the removal of my tag right now; I will also notify him in PMs after posting this.

Where do I stand now?

At the moment, I'll be leaving Aspire Hosting completely; however, the new owners have asked me to stay on as a side person to help them properly transition everything. So once that's done, I'll no longer be involved with the affairs of Aspire Hosting, but legally I'm no longer a representative of Aspire Hosting.

Any doubts?

Please let me know if you have any questions about the transition; there was a delay in my part of the sale announcement because I was busy with the transition, but I'm now a little more free to answer any questions that I can within my scope, though some may be unanswerable by me, which I'll let Areeb handle if any such questions/doubts arise.

Tag removed as above. We will wait for the new owners to join. At least it looks more like a spun off company rather than ex owner steals client data. You can be the judge of that.
