San Jose beta testing is complete. Thank you for testing this location though we have decided not to continue using this provider. As this was stated from the outset that this location is a beta test, then no compensation will be forthcoming.
This location began as the Chicago location fell into decline and if you chose to use services in Chicago as a failover solution for San Jose, then you needed better resiliency planning.

Still no news from the man, whom assures us: "We can confirm that this is not an issue with any servers, network, or power equipment on our end", servers are offline but still running well at the bottom of the sea. When uptime becomes optional too. This is really a joke. It's not even suitable for a DEV~ Low-End-I-quit!

    Maybe
    1. The DC was swallowed up by a earthquake?
    2. Flooded by a sudden flood?
    3. @VirMach's credit card got declined and the DC sold the servers to recuperate the cost?
    4. DC is in a third world country and are having power outage + no diesel for backup generators?
    5. The network cable to DC got eaten by a rodent?

You won’t hear me argue. Just to add - most of America is basically third-world. Only the major cities manage to look somewhat first-worldish.

Nope. Now they need giant, human-sized figures to fight the aliens. The recruitment slogan is "Make Americans Great Again" - proudly sponsored by McDonald’s and Heart Attack Grill.

2nd-world, at best. Think mass ethnic cleansing of indigenous people - probably why it's supported (not just ignored) elsewhere. :-/

I would argue that most of the US ( I won't slander Canada by saying North America ) is first world - it has a ruling class, a vast class of serfs, and the first has placated the second with cheap televisions. It's remarkably similar to the third world just the third world doesn't pretend ( and is missing the tv's ).

The servers are in a drawer, when someone feels like it: they open the drawer and plug them to the internet. Otherwise they remain safe and secure inside the drawer & connected to a LAN only (the minimum viable product of VirmAche). Remember: internet uptime is optional.

  • We've received communication from the datacenter and have scheduled the first maintenance window at 8PM PST on 9/3/25 (in approximately 20 minutes.)

My server disappeared again at ~8PM so I'd guess it's maintenance this time.

  • So … I now have two VPSes that's been down for quite a while. Not sure if these are on @VirMach 's radar? 🤷‍♂️

    Hetrix downtime
AMSD025 and AMSD018 (my VM on AMSD018 used to be in Frankfurt, not sure when it was moved)

Did, open ticket, Ticket #625987, (not sure why I bother, as my previous tickets were automatically closed, unanswered after a few months),
    VirMach ticket

I assume I'm not the only one noticing issues on these nodes?
Tried searching backlog, but Vanilla's search is not the best, sorry if this is already posted.

On AMSD025 I can click Boot, Reboot, Reset etc, but nothing happens. The IP actually responds, but there's no way to get a console, and the VM is listed as not running. On AMSD018, I have no controls available, it says "We have temporarily paused controls for this service as we are performing maintenance on the server.
    Please check back later."

@jcn50 that's a lot of tree that were burned to generate the AI photo

Also, you should consider that what @VirMach means is that his server's "network" is up. Meaning the IPMI shows the network card is ok and the sever shows network cable is connected. What he might be saying now is the DC's network or routing got issues.

If my internet dies and I confirmed that my router + local network is ok, I will say my servers, network, or power equipment on my end is fine, since the issue is not on MY END. The issue is on my internet provider's end.

Dont tell me you believe @VirMach owns the entire DC...

I felt like fact checking myself, as I noticed an s sneaking in, I meant to write "my previous ticket", not "tickets" ... :innocent: And it was in fact just 11 days between opening ticket, and it being automatically closed without reply ...
Anyways, hope the nodes can be revived or VM's be migrated soon, hopefully stuff ain't as bad as back in the days of the FFME nodes having issues ... 🙄

Probably not as many trees as a DC is running a bunch of unusable servers. Also, I find the pictures funny, so there's that. I'd rather like seeing attempts at creativity in expressing discontent than some of the alternatives.

If that's what it is, he could say that's what it is; no speculation required. One could also definitively indicate that compensation is planned. Trust isn't gained by lack of communication, so it is not clear why folk with downed systems and no apparent recourse should speculate to the benefit of the provider versus continuing to draw visibility to inadequately addressed concerns.

"We can confirm that this is not an issue with any servers, network, or power equipment on our end." Not being a dick but I'd argue that's exactly what he said. Could he have elaborated that he's working with the upstream / DC to figure out wtf happened? Sure, and I'd have encouraged that since it probably makes his own life easier by limiting the screaming but here we are.

One could also definitively indicate that compensation is planned. Trust isn't gained by lack of communication, so it is not clear why folk with downed systems and no apparent recourse should speculate to the benefit of the provider versus continuing to draw visibility to inadequately addressed concerns.

I'm not sure I understand that last bit. How are the two items exclusive? You can still be mad that it's down with no communication even if you understand it might not be Virmach's direct fault. Draw attention to it all you want ( though I'd prefer it to be reasonable vs indiscriminate ranting and name calling )

EDIT: Not that my opinion/preferences have any weight mind you. Just putting it out there in case anybody cares ( which they don't but it didn't hurt to try :P )
