Popular free image hosts and hosting scripts

For those of you who are posting images to LES/LET, what are some of the popular image hosts you guys use?

If you are hosting your own image hosts, what scripts are you guys using?

Never make the same mistake twice. There are so many new ones to make.
It’s OK if you disagree with me. I can’t force you to be right.

  • Used to use Chevereto now just use ShareX with S3

  • Currently using Postimages. Looking for something similar, preferably one that can be used without logging... Something like upload, link and forget.

There is a LES member who runs the im.ge prjoect- I had used it a couple of years ago...had even exchanged some DM's for a project I was (then) working on.

Nowadays almost all images are posted here- via droplr (paid), or rarely... imgbb.

    Side trivia:

    1. Back in 2019/20, when I was less dumb than I am now... it was @uptime who showed me how to link images from droplr to LES.

Default path is drop.lr/abcdefgh,which vanilla does not recognize. He "taught" me to right click on imageandcopy path(cdn-std.droplr.net/abcdefgh)

    1. on OGF during BF sale, some host had hot linked an image from wordpress website of some municipality in a small US town, that was ... interesting.

    2. If you really want to push this idea (#2) , set up a wordpress.com account (free) and upload/ server images from there.

Damn.. all that bike p0rn needs a login. Sigh!

I'm just using the built in image functionality?

Is there a reason people are using external?

You just paste an image directly into the comment box. Uploads and links it. Not sure how chuffed the admins are about space usage but works...path looks like this:

Must be something else - I've used it on both FF/windows and FF/linux.

If you right click the LES logo top left of this page, select copy image and the ctrl V it into the comment box it doesn't work for you?

Tried that, and no, still doesn't work. No errors on console and i dont see any network activity being triggered for the file upload either. Disabled adblock as well, no dice. Oh well!

Wait, then how did people on the internet find pictures of your yeti family? I always see them posting it here and there as proof of your existence!

I was selfhosting as well, but am worried about copyright claims. The country I am living in takes it a bit too seriously...
So decided to go with image hosts that do not require accounts to "share" images on public forums.

Using ShareX with Cloudflare R2 or Bunny Storage + CDN (aff / non-aff).

  • Damn, that's a big list to go through, and i don't know many of them!

    https://vgy.me/ - No anonymous uploading
    https://s-ul.eu/files - No anonymous uploading
    https://www.imagebam.com/
    https://imgbb.com/ - Already using
    https://imgcdn.dev/ - Thanks for this!
    https://freeimage.host/ - Already using
    https://im.ge/ - No anonymous uploading
    https://zapodaj.net/
    https://www.directupload.eu/
    https://postimages.org/ - Already using
https://pasteboard.co/ - Image upload works, but when accessing the link, it says image deleted on many images... weird!

    Free image hosts

Thanks for the recommendation. Already aware of pomf2, but wasn't aware that catbox blocks vpn traffic. Not a good imagehost if some of the users cant even see the images...

    Self-hosted

I have my own image hosting script, but am trying to avoid using it due to possible "copyright infringement" claims. The country I am residing in takes it very seriously so want to avoid getting into legal troubles and fines as much as possible. I am already poor enough as is!

I am trying to route the traffic through cloudflare for now, hoping it'll somehow protect my server's IP, but not holding too much hope on this...

That wouldn't help as abuse reports are forwarded from CloudFlare to your host. [1]

And Cloudflare doesn't want you to serve so much non-HTML content this way, you need to use their specific paid services. [2]

I've seen people pushing hundreds GB with a media server on a free CF without getting restricted, but take it with a grain of salt.

On OGF DutchIS advertised their WAF. The ToS doesn't explicitly state what kind of content is forbidden, just don't stress their servers too much I guess.

But if your goal is to protect yourself from abuse claims, no proxies would shield you from that.

Awesome... That's what I get for not reading the TOS

Thanks for highlighting this. And yes, I am somewhat worried about cloudflare traffic, since I am on their free tier. The move from cloudflare back to my DNS provider doesn't seem that fast either, let alone dealing with their SSL lock...

And since it is a business, I doubt they'll care much about free users, opting to either overcharge me the first chance they get or kick me off...

Lucky people... for my website, the traffic currently is sitting around 200 MB per day, which equates to around 6 GB per month, but I dont think it'll stay low as it is now.

There is always the option of a reverse proxy to shield my website completely, but then it's best to host my site on that server hosting the reverse proxy instead. Oh well, it was a good attempt!

I guess it's time i look into migrating back out of cloudflare, specially since this exists. I dont want a 70k or a 100k bill anytime soon!

There is a setting in CF to rate limit things...forgot details but it's available even on free tier...i recall toying with it a year or so back

I've been looking at bunny.net for this purpose more though...their packages are basically prepaid so no real risk of surprises and much of the CF functionality is there
