Free VPS(es) For Developers
Hello All,
We're planning to offer Free VPSes for developers and open-source companies. Those VPSes will be running on decent nodes. We do not have any node planned out, yet it will be all planned this week.
This is our announcement and feedback thread. For updates, we will post here. If you have any questions please reply with those.

any arm plan?

Would those be suitable for compiling (CPU intensive tasks over longer periods)?
Yes!
Yes! We'll have an ARM plan.
Who are we?
We are doing it as well, you almost used exactly the same title !!!
If you develop Open Source Software we can give you a free VM
You're one of the reasons we are starting this.
Me and my team.
Does that mean we are not doing things right?
Why not just collaborate?

No, you're doing this correct. Yet, we think there can be improvement at some aspects. This is why we're doing this too. We are not here to take your place, we are here to offer alternative services.
Well that does not sound like the spirit of Open Source. Collaborate and improve, branch if not evolving the way you like.
I wish you well but I am disappointed.

Open-Source is my eyes is software based. What does this have to do with open-source software? We're here to make a difference. Of course, they can use your services, yes. We are not completelty different, we only have less strict rules, high free resouces and more. If you'd like, we are able to contribute to your project, but i do not see in which way it is possible.
It would have made more sense to discuss first.
We have the necessary software for checking, authorising and building vms which I am sure you would find beneficial and I would have been very happy to share and collaborate on.
As I said, I am disappointed at your entire approach.

Awesome! I hope it supports nested virtualization. Currently, I urgently need small instances with ARM support for nested virtualization to compile daily images.
Currently, none of the ARM-based VPS options I've found on the market support this feature (DigitalOcean supports nested virtualization but does not offer ARM instances).

We develop high performance networking software.
NDN-DPDK and NDNts are some of our outcomes.
Our usual devbox is: 16 dedicated cores with hyperthreading disabled, 32GB RAM, 100GB boot volume, 1Gbps Internet connection, 4x 100Gbps NIC Virtual Functions with PCI passthru (LAN only), 1x NVMe card with PCI passthru.
Do you have decent enough nodes?
No hostname available. affbrr
Probably because ARM is not made for nested virtualization in the first place...

Hello,
You may not expect this answer, but i think i can help you.
And you came 3 years after us.. Should you not have discussed with us, then?
Seems like a very strange approach if folks can't start something similar to what others have done before, for any kind of industry.

I did not - Tom setup FOSSVPS.

This exactly.
I know, but that wasn't the point, was it?

Yes it was the point.
I had no knowledge that you had done the same and something done three years ago is certainly different to a post with almost the same title on the same front page.
If I had known of you and your efforts I would have asked you for your views and discussed collaboration. It would have also been good if you could have mentioned it in the thread as all help is beneficial.

Hello,
It was not even intended to have a title just like yours, last time i checked a title cannot be copyrighted?

Are you just trying to be annoying - who cares about a title / copyright.
You knew what we were doing, you even said we were one of the reasons you were starting this. There is nothing wrong with you doing the same thing BUT this is supposed to be a community and what we are doing is supposed to be helping people. I would have been very happy to help and collaborate but you showed no community spirit and just copied. You certainly did not show any help for FOSSVPS.

So you're an OG here, and didn't know about FreeVPS? Which was, coincidentally, started by the same person who also started FossVPS, which said person mentioned in the initial threads for FossVPS?
Tom specifically started FossVPS due to .. call it creative differences. It's a different philosophy.
Perhaps @allexanderbm also has a completely different vision to both ours and yours, until he launches his stuff only he knows.
On that note, feel free to reach out if you'd want any pointers or anything like that. That applies to both of you

You are rich.

Thank you, I was not aware of the background.
FOSSVPS may have stricter rules but it is working and we have around 50+ users (and growing).
The automation, registration, authorisation and provisioning is working and uses bash so easy to port etc. I am always happy to share and help others also.

Haha, not really. I rather call it wealthy.
We have enough machines, but we are hungry as doing open source doesn't put dinner on the table.
Can you send some crab cakes and salmon fillets to us poor devs?

That isn't a way to help your product get better. That's a kinda dumb question. If you need any actual funding, feel free to tell me.
