So Zap got two purchases from me yesterday, a new lifetime and an upgrade on an old lifetime, lol.

Echo that. Damn, the new one is totally an idler exacly because the old one got upgraded and is an epyc, and the new is a qemu in molasses.
    old:
    Processor : AMD EPYC 7763 64-Core Processor
    Single Core | 1298
    Multi Core | 3998
    new:
Processor : QEMU Virtual CPU version 2.5+
    Single Core | 410
    Multi Core | 1137

I've found that my Germany VPS is still on the old Xeon, but Ashburn (the one I upgraded) and LA (the new one) are both Epyc. I did ask them once, a few months ago, about upgrading the Germany one, but at the time they said there wasn't any capacity at the time.

  • Well... That was too good to pass up. I bought another!

Somehow I ended up grabbing all their locs :joy: :'(

    Hopefully no deadpool soon

I have old Xeon in Eygelshoven (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 v2) although I have EPYC in a random VM I spin up with credits
AMD EPYC 7763 in Ashburn, Dallas & Los Angeles

As a side note, Zap started announcing 2a0c:3580::/29 in Eygelshoven quite recently (and 2a0c:3580::1 is pingable), so most likely IPv6 coming soon =)

Seems like many of us bought a vps again  That said, 50% off was too good to miss

I also just bought a VPS at the German location, and the infrastructure I received is Xeon V4. It seems like the transition to the new infrastructure allows me to do that. I will update YABS next time.

    Which game?

I sometimes run a Fika SPT server to play some coop Tarkov with a few friends.

It probably is the worst optimized game that I am aware of. As I run a headless client that hosts the whole game, it is very resource intensive at times. It needs very strong single threads scores and can easily consume up to 16GB of RAM.

I tried on my 2680v2 dedi and it wasn't a pleasant experience.

  • Hey all, happy 2026.

I tried checking out zap and selected the US locations. But seems it costs extra for that locstion (for lifetime) is there any reason for this? Compared to the EU location where it doesnt charge a location premium

Happy 2026 to you as well mate :)

I think it's just more expensive, because they probably don't have an own DC/own staff in the US. In Germany, they have in-house staff managing their hw, which is probably cheaper. Plus there's also elecricity and DC bills which might be higher in the US.

    About Germany locations it says:

We offer our own server infrastructure with our own network and dedicated hardware at our main location in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The company \"ZAP-Hosting\" was founded at this location in 2010.

The Tier III data center \"SkyLink\" in Eygelshoven (near Aachen, directly on the Dutch border) was introduced in March 2020 as a \"branch office\" of our data center in Frankfurt. All traffic is routed via Frankfurt so that our customers benefit from an optimal connection and DDoS protection.

    About US location it says:

At the PsychZ Data Center in the State of Texas/Virginia/California we have moved into a location with our own hardware and network technology.
