In terms of "big" as in I assume lots of people have heard of them then 1&1, ukfast, uk2, etc all spring to mind as well. But, they're also not providers I would choose to use myself.

Do they spring to mind immediately when you think of big players in the VPS market though?

Perhaps not ukfast as they're more dedis, but 1&1 and uk2 would - I remember finding them years ago when searching for a VPS but ended up with Bytemark.

    Linode > DigitalOcean > Vultr

  • Alphabetized (to remove bias)

    Premium VPS (for pets):
    BuyVM
    Liteserver
    Ramnode
    UltraVPS.eu

    Cloud-ey VPS: (cattle)
    DO
    Hetzner
    Linode
    Vultr

Hybrid solutions: (DB/compute pets + cattle)

    • Hetzner.

    Burning dumb VC money :

    • AWS (not today Bezos)
    • Azure
    • GCP (JK, I think their pre-emptible VMs are amazing)
  • Once you're big and cloudy, preemptable (GCS) or spot (AWS) seems like an important product. You have to price the regular VM's high enough that supply exceeds demand and there is always stock available. But that means you have idle hardware most of the time. So spot/preemptable gives you a way to turn it into revenue.

    100% agree

  • We're honored by the mentions in this thread!

@Anon said: I'm going to try Ramnode, people here say it's a top-notch service and uptime.

  • My first VPS was PhotonVPS. It’s one of the big providers back in 2011. I didn’t know I could get VPS for $7 at that time.
Linode was the biggest at that time.

Right now, I have accounts in Google Cloud and Scaleway. I only use a paid product for a few hours, such as compiling and testing software.

lol how could I forget those?

They are hard coded into the internet infrastructure like,

the oxygen in the air we need to breath.

When one of them experiences some sort of hiccups, we realise their existence due to the Collateral damage caused by the extent of their footprint on the internet.
