Request: Monitor recommendation for use with Macbook Pro 16
LES Team -
Looking for an external monitor recommendation to be used with a MacBook Pro 16 in my WFH setup (a standing desk setup).
Should be available or shippable to India.
Purpose: Work/Code. No gaming. Little design (app/mobile) work.
What is your view about 2K or 4K monitors? Any personal recommendations? What makes an ideal monitor size for work setup?
Is USB-C monitor worth? (I see that most USB-C monitors, which support power delivery only support upto 60/65W. Macbook Pro requires 96W)
I did look at rtings.com for recommendations. Most of them are expensive or unavailable in India.
Thanks in advance.

Are you able to get Dell monitors easily in India?
Yes. Not always the new models. I was looking at U2720Q (570 USD outside India) is not available or available at >1000 USD price. The other model I was looking was P2419HC (24", USB-C), which is about 340 USD in India.

Wait a month, sales begin on both sites A and F. Not just for price, but available choices

Thanks. Was hoping for more and better options then
Yes, pricing is a sham - given the supply chain constraints from COVID and China conflict.
The unfavorability of India as a first class market also adds here.
I've started going all Samsung for displays and have no regrets. This is what my macbook plugs into: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LC27F591FDNXZA-C27F591-27-Inch-Included/dp/B01CX26VNC

Is it good to look into curved monitor? Do you need to adapt or it feels like natural when you look to curved monitor?
It feels really natural. The curve just makes each edge of the monitor keep a relative value of distance from my eyes as the center. I really don't notice the curve so much anymore.

Display port is where it's at. Stay away from HDMI...or well anything below HDMI below v2. USB-C is effective display port if I'm not mistaken...but never heard it being described as a "usb-c" monitor
For coding I'd definitely got for the max res you can find (so 4K basically) and then push the size as far as budget allows.
I'd also look carefully at the backlight tech. I bought a 4K screen and what got me was that it was a little too flickering for my liking.
Pretty happy with the LG one too and I wouldn‘t want to miss the feature to use the monitor as USB-C hub and charging station. The extra money for those screens is worth it if you intend to use your MacBook as a „desktop“ and still be able to take it with you sometimes.

From a technical perspective, you are right. But „USB-C Hub Monitor“ or just „USB-C Monitor“ seems to become the buzzword many brands go with. Just look at Dells marketing website.

What do you use to connect it to the MacBook? one of those usb-C dongles that has hdmi, USb-a, sd slot, etc?
Yeah I picked up one at best buy that connects over USB C. Ethernet, HDMI, 2 USB ports. Works great.

@jarland - Thank you. How is your experience with 1920x1080p resolution with a MacBook on a 27" screen? I'm seeing mixed reviews on the text display and normal office work for a 27" inch 1920x1080p resolution.
Looks great. Perfectly smooth.
