Fairly simple to get around this, but you need some knowledge setting up vpns and forward some ports and stuff. Lets hope people cancel their storage servers so legit users can use them instead of miners.

Pretty sure without any random noise, you could detect if the vpn is used for mining.
Just need to search for a specific pattern using that vpn software.
First they blocked port 10080 for NAT slipstream
And I did not speak out
Because I did not use port 10080
Then they blocked port 3389 for Windows remote desktop
And I did not speak out
Because I did not use port 3389
Then they blocked port 25 for emails
And I did not speak out
Because I did not use port 25
Then they blocked port 8444 for Chia farming
And I did not speak out
Because I did not use port 8444
Then they blocked port 6363 that I use to deliver push-ups
And there was no one left
To speak out for me
I’m sure you don’t mean it this way, but now you’re comparing blocking a port to prevent abuse with the Second World War and the Shoah. Not very classy.
On topic: although blocking port 8444 does not completely prevent abuse by chia plotting, it is low hanging fruit and will certainly give a signal to people renting a Hetzner dedi for this. People getting around this certainly can’t play the nescience card anymore.
Chia miners are starting to realize it's not profitable at all and are giving up. Finally, at least one piece of hardware back to normal prices soon I hope.

Anybody starting now with less than a half PiB has a low chance of getting a decent amount of Chia.
I've got 1700 plots, have not won a Chia in 15 days and my time to win is 12 days and increases daily.
I also gave up, even though I was only curious. Initially wanted to plot some at home and farm on storage VPS. For the amount I had in mind, chiacalculator went from 4-5 months to win to 4+ years to win, in less than a week. Yeah, no thanks.

People are so naïve. Some of them invested tens of thousands in hardware and most of them are still in denial and say Chia will be worth 5K, 10K, 20K soon and try to convince each other to hang on to their coins. It's fun to see all the tears on Reddit. People believing in free and easy money and are now disappointed there's no such thing. Really?
Anyway I really need some hard drives for legit use, I hope prices will return back to normal soon. I'm already scared of what's next though. Proof of ram, Proof of bandwidth?
I know it's not a popular opinion, but I hope this entire crypto thing will end rather sooner than later.
I am kicking myself for not picking up one of 8TB Seagate expansion/hub external drives that had EXOS drives inside. (at around a 20% discount to the Exos themselves)

Any official word about this? Can't seem to find it.

Good.
VPS for mining is the ultimate dick move.
We all know, VPSes are meant for idle.
Yes, see discussion and links in cest pit yesterday.

Chia mining? Nah, better stick with chia farming:

Looks like hdd's are still plentiful and stores are advertising to chia farmers. Prices might be up a little but nothing drastic.
Haha, from one of those threads

PS: Nope. Not for chia BS
What are exos drives? I'm used to seagate externals containing shitty SMR drives.
Proof of IPv4, then suddenly everyone will request small VPS with dedicated IP.
Proof of recognizing traffic lights and bicycles... oh wait google did that.

I think the real money is/was selling hardware to the miners not the actual mining itself.
I asked a friend and he said tinc probably is a quick and easy way and also works for more than one farm... I mean... box ;-)
Told ya
