NVMe PCIe-Gen 6 Storage?

I stumbled across infomaniak.com who is offering NVMe PCIe-Gen 6 block storage with their "open cloud" lineup. I've never heard of PCIe Gen 6 storage. Are such datacenter drives in existence or is this a marketing gag?

Nothing supports gen 6 yet. Even gen 5 is still thin on ground

  • Here is what the support answered to me:

    Dear Sir ,

Thank you for your interest in our products.

NVMe is an interface specification that allows a computer to access a permanent storage device through a PCI Express bus.

It provides high-performance access to flash memory without using the SCSI disk protocol and therefore with reduced access time and less load on the processor.

Our public cloud uses PCI Express 6 technology as indicated on the information page on this subject.

We hope that we have answered your request correctly and we remain at your disposal.

    Best regards.

Thank you for your confidence. We remain at your disposal and send you our best regards.

This seems to be a case of "Lost in Translation" by Infomaniak support team. They seem to be a mid sized provider 1.

Ref: News article on the openstack service

Boosted by AMD 32-core EPIC processors, 6th-generation NVME storage and NVidia T4 GPUs, the Infomaniak Public Cloud boasts staggering performances and is hosted exclusively in Switzerland in the Infomaniak data centres.

Probably referring to Samsung V-NAND? and here.

    Btw:
Did not find a "Dimitri" in team. Probably outsourced sales support. Based on writing style can anyone guess where "Dimitri" is originally from ? (click for bigger version)

    1. Infomaniak seem to have a big team (relative to what most providers have). At Swiss/ EU payscale they must be doing quite well Ref: https://www.infomaniak.com/en/about/team ;↩︎

Probably a mistype on the website, support agent probably is outsourced and doesn't know much about PCIe (probably just listens to the website + a quick google search).
