Microsoft Announces Azure spot pricing

Could be interesting for experimental uses & quick disposable stuff. AWS has similar but I prefer Azure

This is very similar to their B series in terms of intended functionality. I welcome any discounted services from Azure with open arms.

  • Those prices don't seem so great compared to hetzner cloud or scaleway bare metal.

Yeah the specialised VPS providers will always win that fight.

Or rather Azure can afford to price their stuff higher because the value proposition isn't lowest cost, but rather integration.

They've got 100+ individual Lego pieces in their Azure offering. And often you need a VM somewhere in the middle of it to build something cool.

Anyway...going slightly off LES topic I guess. Very excited for this though, esp if that 80% discount holds steady (probably won't as more people take up spot instances)

  • The 80% is likely to hold imho. It is around that level for AWS and GCS, depending.

I usually use Vultr for that. $0.004/hr on their cheapest (IPv6-only) plan.

In fairness part of the reason I'm so stoked about this is MSDN sub.

If your employer gives you access to MSDN you'll have Azure credits...150usd/pm...which is a lot of server (for non-commercial use!)

  • Thanks @havoc , useful information.

No longer available in most locations?

The all seeing eye sees everything...

You are aware of the basis of Low End Spirit, yes?

    My pronouns are like/subscribe.

I am aware. I don't think @AnthonySmith or @mikho would do BGP on their LES though.

Would probably take some crazy bastard like @cam for that.
