What's the point? Ubuntu pumping new releases so often. I preffer Debian's slow release cycle.
good for AMD

Xubuntu on a January December nightly release of Jammy.. on my 2007 Dell Latitude D520. Quite impressed that a 15 year old machine runs so damn well on the latest incarnation. Back them I think it was closer to Oct 2021 edition- need to check what it looks like now.

If you only count Ubuntu's LTS releases it's pretty similar to Debian with a new release every two years.
One of the many reasons I love Linux. Throw it on any old hardware and it'll run perfectly fine. And unlike Windows, distro upgrades (usually) don't cripple the machine and make old hw obsolete.

It is interesting you mentioned that @Mason. I think four or five years ago I was listening to one of the podcasts from the distro watch feeds. So not quite sure which one it was. In that episode, some person was sharing their experience … I think this person's father in law used an older desktop from like early 2000 vintage. This person's mother in law asked this person to “fix the computer” which had been lying unused for nearly a decade. He fired it up it was xfce on Debian.
2005 or 2006 was the last upgrade, but the look and feel and everything was so similar even down the line…all he had to do was to run an upgrade and the machine was up and running.
One can make arguments to the contrary- wont work for distro x or desktop manager y. What about wayland, 32 bit support… etc but these (fair, valid questions) do not negate the above

Naturally, you're right, but several years ago, when I tried to install Debian on an old Pentium III from 1999, it was rather painful, so there are limits. I think that one can go back to machines from around 2007 without too much pain ...
"A single swap file or partition may be up to 128 MB in size. [...] [I]f you need 256 MB of swap, you can create two 128-MB swap partitions." (M. Welsh & L. Kaufman, Running Linux, 2e, 1996, p. 49)
I was just about to type, "Tell that to my Inspiron 2650" when I saw you beat me to it. ;-)
Already available as preinstalled option at Alwyzon but I don't recall seeing anybody being brave enough to pick it at a new order.

You're always 1st. You're running on Proxmox so no Solus templates, aren't you?
Indeed, no SolusVM at play here. The templates are created in-house, so there is no need to wait on anybody.

Thats the beauty of VirtFusion. You can use most cloud images.
Pull the image direct from https://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/jammy/current and added to VF.

NVMe2G for life! until death (the end is nigh)
Yes, VirtFusion is definitely in advantage regarding this. To avoid confusion, is @alwyzon using VirtFusion?
I don't think so.

update kernel debian buster to 5.16 :
No, we don‘t use VirtFusion. As mentioned, the templates are created in-house, more specifically through some semi-automated approach using libVirt & KVM directly not, some third-party panel.

The beauty of adding new OS cloud images in like 10 seconds.
Just played around with 22.04, works as expected.

On a related note, the folks at Deepin Desktop team had posted a few days ago about "Resurrect your old computer using Deepin". Now this distro is not my cup of tea, but I decided to support them anyways: Installed it, tinkered around, will keep it for a couple of days.

Stop the planet! I wish to get off!
Also looking forward for 22.04 so I can finally have an excuse to upgrade my 18.04's 😅

I am waiting for Ubuntu Potatoesandwich.
It's going to have all sorts of snapcrafts and malfunctioning crapware on it that makes your computer freeze each 5 minutes or so and random weird laptop keyboard and touchpad problems due to snappified gnome.
PS: 32GB RAM minimum requirements.
And the soul of your first unborn male.
I've only got a daughter so I'm safe ...whew
i've got good news and bad news.
good news is (k)ubuntu 22.04 is officially out.
bad news is dragonball is delayed till June.
damn.
