I really like Apache Guacamole, which is browser (HTML5)-based instead of needing a client installed. I have a couple local Windows VMs that I use as remote desktop and other stuff. Guac still uses RDP to access the Windows boxes, but acts as the mi…

Happy Easter! Whatcha cookin'? (Image) Got shrimp, chicken, mushroom, onion, bell pepper, and zucchini kebabs going on the grill. Chicken was marinated in a beer & spice concoction that my wife threw together. Shrimp are seasoned with "o…

(Quote) I use a sponsored ProxCP instance. It's pretty solid and makes node/VM management a piece of cake.

(Quote) That's some flawless, big-brain logic right there. With that said, I'm proud to announce I'll be selling LowEndSpirit accounts for the low, low price of $2/mo. (don't worry, Ant, I'll pass along 25% of the proceeds minus taxes). Tell your f…

(Quote) It's okay. SSDNodes has been running the same "72 hours sale" for the past three years.

SETI may be shutting down, but if anyone has spare computing power and wants to donate their resources towards a worthy cause, Folding@home is taking up the COVID19/SARS-COV-2 fight. https://foldingathome.org/2020/03/10/covid19-update/ Folding@hom…

Small update pushed to the repo to address some fio interoperability issues with the pre-compiled binary. New fio binary is being compiled with the "--disable-native" flag so that generic qemu/non-AVX CPUs don't throw an error.

(Quote) LES users are allowed to apply, of course. Website text has already been updated a few days ago. Application might need tweaked in a couple spots.

Also, I'm happy to report that the AlphaVPS-sponsored node has been extended by an additional year! ????

(Quote) Lol! Thankfully VirMach is good people and have treated us well -- they're like the rubber glove between me and CC COVID-19 ;)

(Quote) Totally legit. Pretty crazy, right? They transitioned to encrypted SSDs in the second half of last year.

This isn't surprising for gov (and sometimes military) systems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it (or ever get funds to upgrade it). The US was using floppy disks for control of it's nuclear arsenal systems up until just a few months ago.

(Quote) Need something with high performance obviously, so I'll write it up in Julia so we can run it on an HPC. <bigbrain.jpg>

(Quote) Yep, probably what @debaser said. Did you try running it manually (https://www.geekbench.com/)? What errors do you get?

Welcome to the party, shallow deep! (Quote) You're in luck as I just purchased some more. Hopefully it'll last me more than just a few weeks this time around.

(Quote) Changelog 24 February 2020: Swapped Unicode status symbols with ? and ? emojis.

(Quote) You talking about the coloring of the cross/check marks? Those are just the unicode symbols (x274C & x2714) so it shows whatever color the terminal/browser/software you're viewing it from renders it so I have no control over the color.

(Quote) Wut? Sorry, I don't get what you mean here.

(Quote) Ahh yeah, that might not work out well then.

(Quote) Officially they say 2gb of memory, however, I've run it on 512mb machines before without issues. If you have swap space it should be alright, if not it might have problems. Might also be the hypervisor killing the process depending on the ho…

Ouch! $60 setup fee. I miss the days of SYS with no setup fees. Made it way easier to impulse buy one of these things and regret it later. I guess it's better this way.

(Quote) It depends, is 'better' defined by stature or girth?

(Quote) He's effectively blacklisted himself from the hosting industry. The dude does make some rather rash decisions, so maybe it's for the best.
