(Quote) Looks like a good price

There is also a real question as to whether it is worth the hassle in terms of value of your time. Depending on country even an hour of additional tune at minimum wage could probably cover a more expensive vps

(Quote) Yep. Certainly not expecting it to show up here any time soon. Doesn't need to though. If the big boys introduce it, the rest of the industry will get a RAM uplift too...either directly from older gen hardware trickling down or from pressur…

Nice one. Also a good opportunity to learn ansible. Write it once, run it on 11x servers in parallel

I'd consider using VSCode with a remote SSH extension against a VPS if you're using a laptop form factor. Productivity on a tablet is just so much lower that it's not worth it imo

(Quote) Yeah. To be fair I think I probably spent a bit more than the 720p chromes...so not 1:1 (Amazon warehouse sent me a laptop with a dead battery...opted to just buy a battery instead of returning it because it seemed fine otherwise & I hat…

(Quote) Awesome! If it ever gets close to something tangible/real I'll let you know. Already have a cool domain for it, plus some ideas on how to make it scale...whether I can execute the plan remains to be seen

Redhat on a 486 I think. Didn't get particularly far with it in the desktop context. Couple years later I did use it for a half year stint as desktop OS though. Linux in virtualization / server context has been better. Mostly using debian. Gonna h…

Very tempted to build my own uptime service. Seems like something that should scale incredibly well if designed for that from the start

Wouldn't be surprised if we switch to this at work. We're already on tablets rather than laptops Personally not interested. Trying to self host more and monthly pay for less

wow that must be below cost @ assumed 1 usd per ip...

Cron job for on reboot. Can't think of a good way to do on shutdown though. Most stuff gets killed pretty fast on shutdown command being issued. If you have a 2nd machine you could just watch till the machine goes down I guess via ping
