LES - New Feature - "LES Ignore User"

First new feature in a while.

LES Ignore User

This gives you the ability to ignore the discussions and comments by any other user you just can't find common ground with, or that causes you any irritation or distress.

Just click on their name to get to their profile and select ignore user:

Their discussions will now be hidden in the main forum feed for you, to remove the ignore, it's the same process.

Their comments will also be hidden in line, instead you will just see a small indicator so at least if the discussion takes a strange turn from your perspective will have some clue why.

This does not hide quoted posts from the user you ignore in posts other users you dont ignore.

Feels like a bit of a negative start, I suppose, but people have talked about this off and on for years, the logic is simple so it was a good one to start with.

Any bugs, please report them here or PM me or email me.

Notes:

  • 1 hard refresh might be needed.
  • You won't see a list of ignored users; it's not to be used lightly. Only use it if you really want it.
  • You cannot ignore mods or admins.

    If it becomes a problem I will look into that in the future then.

    If I learned something the very hard way with TierHive it's feature creep is an absolute progress killer :)

    Another option would be to have it so that instead of the placeholder saying "ignored user post", just say "ignored @person post" (basically have the username in the post itself. That way you dont have to create another page just to show the list of ignored users.

    Good question. How many users have LES and how many have been active during last year or so? ( If takes 10 seconds to be checked it would be interesting) More than that do not invest the time on it . Thanks

    Agreed on the time aspect. This is a low value item, something mostly used to entice guests to sign up. Showing "we have X users active now, sign up and be one of them".

    If a user's post is ignored and someone "quotes" him/her, the user's post will still appear...

    Speaking of bulbs, I’m so glad we’ve finally phased out incandescent ones. Honestly, I can’t even count how many times I accidentally shattered those unprotected bulbs while showering, leaving me to stumble around in the dark, dodging shards of hot glass… Still dunno why those bulbs were left unprotected and dangling from the ceiling right above the shower...

    Great feature - thank you! Wondering if the "ignored user post" can be a collapsible post instead, so no unignoring is required to gain any potential missed context?

    hmm, might be nice, my gut is telling me that this is not really ignoring a user or rather its being a bit selective, but I guess I can sort of see why. I will write that down thanks!
