Me2Cloud update: group your own nodes, auto-detected countries, and a shiba that runs while you test

Me2Cloud (https://m2c.1ms.dog) measures latency from your own browser: straight from your home network to 360+ regions of 17 cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle, Vultr, Hetzner, Alibaba, Tencent and more). Every sample is a real HTTPS request, so it takes the same path your apps do.

Here's what changed over the last two days, mostly from user feedback:

🆕 Custom nodes, rebuilt: a group is your own "provider"

  • Groups: when you add a node, you can put it in a group like "DMIT", "BuyVM" or "My VPS". Each group then works exactly like a provider: its own chip in the provider list, its own lane in the chart, and the area and "exclude my country" filters apply to it too.
  • Countries and icons, detected automatically:

    • Each node gets its site's favicon and a flag, and lands in the right continent.
    • If the host name carries an airport code (like hkg-pro.xxx), that's used directly.
    • Otherwise the host is resolved through Google Public DNS and looked up in a bundled IP-to-country table, all in your browser. The query carries your network's /24 (EDNS Client Subnet), so CDN-backed sites resolve to the edge you'd actually reach.
    • If it guesses wrong, you can set the country by hand.
  • Compact: nodes are small "flag + name" chips, seven or eight to a line. Click one to see its address, change its country, edit or delete it. Groups and nodes are edited in place.

  • Don't forget the direct rules: if you run a proxy client, your custom nodes aren't in the remote rule sets. The warning next to the heading opens ready-made rules for them in one click.

  • Typo guard: a host name that doesn't exist is refused right away. Most often the name and the address were swapped.

🐕 A shiba runs while you test

  • While a test runs, a little shiba runs next to the progress. Its pace follows the live latency: fast nodes, fast dog; slow nodes, it slows down (from about 0.2× to 3×).
  • The animation runs on the browser's compositor thread, so it never stutters, however busy the test gets.
  • With "reduce motion" turned on in your system, the shiba stays put.

🍎 iPhone / Safari

  • Fixed popovers on iOS Safari that were hidden behind the chart, wouldn't close on a tap outside, or got clipped after scrolling.
  • Tells iCloud Private Relay apart from Safari's "Limit IP Address Tracking". The latter only relays some requests and doesn't affect the results, so it's no longer flagged as a proxy, just explained.
  • On phones, the help dialog uses a dropdown instead of a row of tabs you had to scroll sideways.

Feedback welcome 🙏
