Well I suppose if you are using to host a single site and run a VPN for example you have burst space without 1 impacting the other.

In truth that is just how it worked out ratio wise, these nodes have 24 threads vs the 8 thread nodes I was using previously so I just applied the same ratios which meant people got 4 cores (access too).

It was about 7-8 years ago I set those plans iirc.

    1. I'll demand to know how much % I'm allowed to use persistently.

      • Virmach: 33%
      • MaxKVM: 33%
      • SpartanHost: 50%
      • Gullo: nominally 80%, but you run out of RAM first
      • EUserv: 1GHz, no limit, auto throttle
      • Oracle Cloud: no limit, auto steal
      • Inception: ?
    2. Encode push-ups using the allowed CPU percentage.

However, I need to get my automated encoding pipelines working first. I have a LUMPOFCOAL idling at the moment.

I haven't bought Inception box because I'm confused on . I only buy those priced in $ or push-ups.

    60% over a 24 hour period, 100% for 1 hour.

Interested in storage, any tool you recommend for Linux to create and attach this as storage/block device/drive mountable to our VPSes and Windows as Drive? Do you have raid back up for storage. Needed to keep the lxd images and docker stuffs going forward.

    Linux client: NFS over VPN.
    https://d.sb/2020/12/nfs-howto

    Windows client: SAMBA
You can follow the NFS guide to mount the filesystem on your OpenWrt home router, and then setup SAMBA server there.
SAMBA requires IPsec to have encryption, which would be difficult to setup.

    SSHFS is a universal option.
It has encryption by default, but it's slower.

iSCSI is the only option for block device.
This only works well if the client (called initiator) is in the same data center with less than 1ms latency.

it can be under 10ms still ok

I used an iscsi target as a data-only drive for years, like as in mapping 'my documents' to it in windows, worked without issue, essentially felt local that was over the WAN on my home 80/30 connection.

@yoursunny answered the storage attachment part of the question for you, the host nodes in the USA run hardware raid 6, it is not backed up again separately.

I don't actually have a storage VPS, but I have used all these protocols.

    • NFS is used in our university. My dissertation has a section on how I analyzed NFS traffic.
    • I have SAMBA on my home router, backed by a spinning drive bought in 2018.
    • I use SSHFS all the time to edit files on the server.
    • I have iSCSI on my Raspberry Pi.

Whether you need 10Gbps depends on how much filesystem traffic you need. If iSCSI target is providing storage for a rack of servers, you definitely need 10Gbps. If it's one server and backup traffic, 100Mbps would do.

I'm playing with a small computer (originally designed for pfSense) that has only 4GB local flash disk and one USB port.
I need 16GB storage to install the Go compiler and compile my app, and I'd like to keep the USB port open (may need USB WiFi in the future), so I tried iSCSI.

    https://yoursunny.com/t/2020/Debian-serial-iSCSI/

The iSCSI target is a Raspberry Pi connected over 5GHz WiFi. Underlying storage is a spinning drive from 2005 and I'm starting to hear strange noises at night…

  • The Asia Optimised Test IP/File doesn't appear to be working. Can't ping.

How does that work in practice? Would I need to specify which type of IP I want?

I ran a traceroute on both IPs (from HK) and got the same results (other than the Asia Optimised one not reaching the final destination). A bit new to all this so trying to figure out how it all works. Thanks.
