FAT32 No accusation from my side. Just asked out of curiosity and maybe a little jealousy, hoping it was idling on your hand.

To be honest, I haven't drop a PM to cociu yet because I don't have time to set it up until next month. Idling without server is the next level of idling.

@tgl Anyway, I am sorry for being too sensitive about the response. All is well don't worry.

@FAT32 is a nice guy, I think we just had a sarcastic language barrier for a brief second and then BSDguy threw his usual flavor or crazy in the mix.

Lets just smile and move on, no one intended to point any fingers, written language does not always show proper intent.

    We are at 296.

At 300 i will use googles random number picker from 1 to 300 and take a video of it, then turn that in to a gif and post it

More like multiple tries and capture when it pops up.

If it was me, I would just edit the website source from chrome dev tools and make it say the number I wanted on every click

Btw, the use who won has zero visits. So after he joined, he never signed in?

is what it is, you can believe it is genuine or not, makes no difference to me at all, I have been working (fairly hard) since around 6am, it is now 11:32pm and I am not close to being finished, I assure you i have better things to do with my time :)

With that said a big thanks to @cociu I really appreciate your efforts but this thread has to much opportunity for negative inflections sadly so I will be drawing a line under it from here from my perspective.

if you guys want to continue it be my guest, you can find out if a user is registered using the links in the post above, just pop the number 400 in and if nothing comes up we are not at 400.

  • How about draw out the remaining numbers now, as a means to a) bring the madness to an end and b) reward loyal early adopters.. if banned, post count = 0, already won then redraw?

No worries, it’s just the 3rd potential spark of controversy, so I am removing myself and the thread from becoming a mess under a microscope.

  • maybe @cociu should pick his own random number rather than asking @AnthonySmith to do it. That way everyone will not belittle or disrespect @AnthonySmith or anyone else..

  • Looks like we have over 400 accounts now.
Who is going to do the honours of messing about with a random number generator this time?

Fwiw, vanilla lets you pass an index number when viewing a profile.

    #100 - https://talk.lowendspirit.com/profile/100/asdf
    #500 - https://talk.lowendspirit.com/profile/500/asdf
    Etc.

The part after the index doesn't matter :)

That does not take in to account all the bollocks accounts I made when testing stuff though sadly :)

But one can crawl for all numbers and index it.

  • @AnthonySmith - sure, I'll just pipe the text of this message through sha256sum and do a modulo 500 of the hash. (And a modulo 400 as well, if that's still to be determined).

Mathematically I'm not sure if that makes exactly even odds for all players - but it is about as random (that is, difficult to predetermine) as one could hope for.

Will leave this message unedited for posterity.

As suspected, mathematically not perfect (especially since using same hash for 400 and 500 gave results ending in 73 each time)

I'll do some analysis to see just how fair this method is and welcome suggestions for future refinements, but for now I'll warrant it seems to be close enough for government work as far as a quick and dirty "done deal" goes.

Can use this message as the source for the next hash - will leave unedited for posterity as well.
