Congrats on your new NL location!
    Got some feedback for y'all:

Obligatory YABS (without GB6, can't run as it's IPv6 and normal GB only uploads data and doesn't print)

HostBill as Control Panel is just super nice (though everyone is vouching for VirtFusion, including myself ;)), I have no bad feedback for it really (though graphs could be smaller but meh)
    Snapshots work perfectly fine
Upload ISO doesn't work at all, fails every time, either via IPv4 or IPv6.
rDNS works perfectly fine, instantly got the PTR record set.
    Overall performance is great.

One last thing, the email sent to the client regarding server's setup shouldn't be sent again on reinstallation of OS. Perhaps a different/more explanatory email could be sent?

    Thanked by (1)mxmla
  • Congratulations!

Nice panel with access to looking glass - very useful, because you don't have to ask about it on tickets. I hope you will not abandon like most Knowledgebase hosting and add some tutorials for laymen there.

As for uptime you might want to consider a solution from InStatus - it has a much nicer UI along with the ability to set up notifications at the time of failure for clients / yourself. :)

    Regarding the server:

The server is very fast... I have never seen such performance before (I have several servers in other companies that have much better CPU, RAM).

    • Very good network - access to 1G/1G with low ping,
    • very fast disks:

fio Disk Speed Tests (Mixed R/W 50/50):

Block size 4k (IOPS) 64k (IOPS).
    Read 250.94 MB/s (62.7k) 2.77 GB/s (43.3k).
    Write 251.60 MB/s (62.9k) 2.78 GB/s (43.5k).
    Total 502.55 MB/s (125.6 thousand) 5.56 GB/s (86.9 thousand).
Block size 512 thousand (IOPS) 1 million (IOPS).
    ------ --- ---- ---- ----
    Read 4.21 GB/s (8.2k) 4.16 GB/s (4.0k).
    Write 4.43 GB/s (8.6 thousand) 4.44 GB/s (4.3 thousand).
    Total 8.64 GB/s (16.8 thousand) 8.61 GB/s (8.4 thousand).

Nothing to whine about... performance is really great.... I hope you will maintain this level with higher node load, then I will consider switching to you myself!

All the best and good luck with your new location! :D

using raid10 instead of ZFS now?

Thank you :) It is ZFS RAID 10 as always ;) No plans to change that, performance is great and ZFS never let us down.

@Flaymes Thank you for your tests! We will investigate the networking in the upcoming week and will update this Thread as soon as this is solved ;)

@zgato Thanks for your feedback! Could you check the ISO Download feature again please? I adjusted a few Settings and it should work now. We will consider changing the Rebuild E-Mail, thank you!

@Spectrum Thanks for your feedback! We will check out Instatus for sure! At the moment we are very happy with Uptime Kuma but Client Notifications are a huge plus :)

Uploading & mounting ISO works flawlessly now. One thing you may consider checking is a weird error whilst using a Debian 11 ISO image (and perhaps happens with others too), whilst installing using GUI interface instead of legacy install

Thanks for your feedback :) Glad ISO is working now ;)

I will check what is going on with the mentioned error. As far as I remember this is a known Debian 11 bug, I will update you ;)

Yes, Port 22 for SSH. (Thanks @skorous )

  • Not enough time for in depth test but idling  was stable.
Just used it for some docker ipv6 testing with low load and I can't complain about the VPS.

    Minor improvements for the panel:

On sign up the alignment of input fields felt wrong, first name and last name on a line break - same for password and repeat password inputs.

And in Security section, the Multi-factor auth looks like a tabbed view but the tab is gone when selecting it and can't return to Allowed IP Access from it. (open Security section again works of course)

Thanks for sponsoring a free VPS and good luck with sales.

Couple of things I noticed: the control panel sidebar 'flashes' in and out during login between the username/password page and the 2FA page, then again once login is complete.

  • The order form contains this option: I have read and accepted that I tested the connection towards the network beforehand with the Looking Glass at https://lg.nl.server-factory.com
This shall be edited to point to a looking glass at Eygelshoven location.

I have confirmed that routed IPv6 is working properly.
When this product exits trial status, it will be eligible for Routed IPv6 Hall of Fame.

ServerFactory aff best VPS; HostBrr aff best storage.

    1. This should be a common problem with Debian 11/12. New machines do not have the wget and curl command lines installed, so they need to be installed manually!

    6、Disk performance test

    Disk write performance:

    1+0 records in
    1+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB, 1.0 GiB) copied, 1.48149 s, 725 MB/s

    Hard drive read performance:

    /dev/sda:
     Timing cached reads: 15994 MB in 2.00 seconds = 8008.00 MB/sec
     Timing buffered disk reads: 2372 MB in 3.00 seconds = 790.37 MB/sec

    Advantages:

High-Speed Network Connection: The server exhibits extremely high upload and download speeds in network speed tests at multiple locations, especially at European test nodes. This is a significant advantage for applications that require substantial data transfers.

Powerful CPU Performance: The AMD EPYC 7702P 64-Core Processor provides robust processing capabilities. Even though only one core is allocated, its performance is still remarkably outstanding.

Rapid Disk I/O: The disk read and write speeds are exceptionally fast, particularly in mixed read/write tests, showcasing the powerful performance of NVMe SSDs.

Sufficient RAM: 2GB of DDR4 RAM should be enough for most basic tasks.

Stable Operating Environment: Debian GNU/Linux 12 provides a stable and widely supported operating system environment.

IPv6 Support: The server supports IPv6, which is essential for the future development of networks.

    Disadvantages:

IPv6 Only in This Test: Some services and applications that only support IPv4 could not be thoroughly tested in this instance. Further testing opportunities could be explored in the future.

Limited CPU Cores and RAM: While the CPU performance is strong, having only one core and 2GB of RAM could potentially limit the server's performance in handling multitasking or memory-intensive applications. Of course, upgrades and configuration optimizations can be made later based on individual needs.

Limited Access to Streaming Media Services: As the current test only supports IPv6, the results for streaming media services show that the server is unable to access several streaming media services. This could be due to network configuration or other issues.

In summary, this server excels in network speed, CPU performance, and disk I/O, making it highly suitable for applications that require fast network connections and robust processing capabilities.
