U.S. inks bill to force geo-tracking tech for high-end gaming and AI GPUs

There is some really stupid shit coming out of the US as of late.

And all it is doing is pushing China towards independence faster. The new Huawei Ascend chips while not 1:1 matched yet are making absolutely insane generation on generation improvements. Like another generation or two and they literally won't need US tech anymore, tracked or not.

Besides, track how...it's not like there is GPS coverage inside datacenter cages...

That said proposed bill is not legislation. There is another one proposing to make all p0rn illegal

Presumably next week they're reinstating the 18th amendment...

There was a time when I'd have called all of these things deranged silliness .........

    There's still enough time

Height of the failures of the current US Government was when Trump said that he managed a ceasefire between Pak and India while both the countries almost deny any intervention of the US :p

I think US is on a pathway of destruction.

    Oh no the dealz!

  • First they plan to ban pr0n, and now put tracking on a GPU's... People use pr0n to went off frustration. GPU with tracking is very frustrative. Shooting in the foot.

"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." Truly unfortunate they found a leader to unite them. :-/

These people have a legitimate problem, that won't get any better by continuing to watch it.
This is textbook addiction start, and porn addiction became a big problem lately.

Back on topic, its a nothingburger. Its just one senator, there is thousands of these "bills" submitted per year.
I personally do not think this will go anywhere, there are massive privacy concerns with it.

It is all bunk and will never go through. Media needs to stick to facts instead of garbage.

The all seeing eye sees everything...

  • Attaching military-grade GPS coordinates to every GPU computation will have an extremely profound impact on the energy, aerospace, and military industries.

    Nice work!

But again, considering that the congress is kind of stupid, you never know.

    Thinking aloud:
In my country they often come up with some very wacky proposal.
Then, they make a "reasonable compromise" - and that compromise is what they had intended to do in the first place, but it would have been harder to push directly.

Like adding an expensive price tier next to the one you want to make most sales with.

    Sorry for the rant.

LES doesn't have servers in SG so you're good.

However SG laws cover ALL public medium/content, regardless of if it was on a message on a server on Uganda or Australia. I saw them reporting even whatsapp messages...

  • I don‘t think there are any reliable methods for geo-tracking. It’s really easy to bypass location checks.

Isn’t this the senator who can’t even tell Singapore and China apart?

  • Everybody is so desperate for control over AI technology. When someone has his mind and time focused on one thing, that one thing ends up controlling their life.

The internet is already getting filled with nonsense, since even common people race into embracing it faster. On a simple bus you can see people scrolling and scrolling within social-media, while seeing something like: 💩, 📰, 💩, 📰, 💩, 📰. Soon this will end up in only AI generated content: 💩, 💩, 💩, 💩, 💩, 💩 ...

Please stop the planet! I wish to get off!
