    Nice!

Hard to keep my hands off that deal!

  • Woah, this actually seems to be recurring (Ikoula is famous for 3 month clickbait prices) and there are some nice upgrades available, like upgrade to 3tb hdd for +€5/m. It also comes with an obsolete GPU (maybe still good for something), with a €7/m upgrade available to another obsolete GPU. I have no idea whether the upgrade one is much of an improvement.

Their DNS entry no longer resolves for me. Did you already kill them with your post? :D
Well, it's even better than "just me" - which wire did they trip over?!

Its a old offer since a few weeks, I did mention it on Hostballen but its meh.
    https://hostedtalk.net/t/the-ball-pit/18/17825

8 gig and + VAT if it would be 16gig sure I would have mentioned it everywhere.
Speaking of ikoula, my server just took a shit.

An unmetered E3 for 15€ (not everyone pays VAT) is by far the cheapest I've seen. Also according to LET, people are getting 16GB of RAM, of course not guaranteed.

About the outage, looks like Ikoula as a whole is down right now.

Yea kinda true, but we had 8.99 Kimsufis with 16gig, which I still got my hands on.
Hopefully they will go come back up soon.

  • I don't run anything personally that cares whether there are 8gb or 16gb. Occasionally I need more than 8gb but in those cases 16gb tends to not be enough either. So I'm cool with 8gb though I'd probably take the disk upgrade. Anyone know if it's ECC memory? Site is down for me now too.

  • I am getting "This coupon cannot be applied to your order" ;(

But what if Kimsufi drops the price by 50% you gonna loose it then?

  • Nah, my next dedi spend is 12-14 Eur/mo to add a 1x960G DC ssd or 2x480G DC ssd to my 22 eur Hetzner legend.

I still haven't found a use case that really justifies the extra SSD IOPS.

They actually had this offer 3 times in the past weeks, maybe it comes back again, who knows.

    06.04 - 10.04

    24.04 - 28.04

    It always ran 4 days

  • I forgot to order an HDMI dummy plug - do you guys know if Plex transcoding will work without it?

Will work fine. That CPU doesn't have Quick Sync anyways, so you wouldn't have benefitted from the dummy plug.

Edit: ohh wait, I see it comes with an old GPU. The dummy plug is only useful for iGPUs on CPUs. If that card is supported, Plex may be able to use it for hw transcoding. But given the age of the card, CPU might be faster anyway.

Any idea what the GT710 can be used for in addition to whatever I'll be running? Obviously it's useless for Crypto mining but I'm curious if it'd make a significant difference in Folding@Home or something without having a negative impact on system stability. It's not like we're paying more or less for the power on these things anyways if we're going to be running these machines.

  • Reinstalling OS on this company's client panel makes me realise how good we have things at Hetzner/OVH
