ICANN blocks the sale of .org domain to a private company.

On 13 November 2019, Public Interest Registry (PIR), a nonprofit corporation which maintains the .org domain, announced that its parent organization, Internet Society (ISOC), had reached an agreement with Ethos Capital, under which Ethos Capital would acquire PIR and all of its assets from ISOC for $1.135 billion. Under the agreement, PIR would also be converted from a Pennsylvania not-for-profit corporation to a for-profit Pennsylvania limited liability company.
